Hey, If you interested in STARRY back story, you may read manga ch.61. lt's a standalone chapter so no need to worry about any spoiler, you can read on mangadex or mangabat
Episode 8 is what started the Bocchi hype, especially in Japan. A day before this episode was aired the volume 5 of the manga was released and on it included a special chapter featuring Nijika & Seika's back story. Ilts a standalone chapter tie-in for episode 8. I guess the author anticipated that people would wonder why Nijika's dream is very important to her and her sister. I suggest you read it as soon as possible while your impression of episode 8 is still fresh,
I'm so happy you noticed it wasn't raining anymore! You're the first reactor I've seen who noticed that they "played well enough to blow away the typhoon" Also, Fan #1 and Fan #2 are precious and pure and need to be protected and buried in Kessoku Band merch
Nijika rescued Bocchi from loneliness, and Bocchi became the hero who saved Nijika when she was down. I love the portrayal of their relationship. Seeing Bocchi's performance on stage and Nijika's past, I shed tears unexpectedly. What an episode that full of emotion and joy
Yeah, I like the dynamic of their relationship. Nijika cares about Bocchi a lot and genuinely wants Bocchi to be comfortable and have fun. She's such an angel. And Bocchi not wanting the concert to end on a dismal note leads her to put her all into the performance, thus saves the band's cohesion, and thus becomes a sturdy foundation for Nijika's dream. Both of them don't have ulterior motives at all and genuinely want to help the other/to be better. It's beautiful.
Hitori stepping up and saving the band with her impromptu solo when nerves were getting the better of them all was definitely one of the highlights of this season.
@@A._Meroy Yeah, it's obvious that Seika figured it out first. What I meant is that Nijika figured it out off-screen some time in the recent past. But apparently not. Glad I caught it now.
As a band member myself. I cant stress enough how Important that Hiroi and the 2 Girls actually came for Bochi even in that weather condition. The confidence that they can give her just being there and it exactly shows that they are her genuine fans.
Bocchi said "YOU. FCKING. LISTEN. TO. ME." with 6 strings, determination, and a dream. She's indeed one heck of a hero in that moment. Also, the conversation between Nijika and Bocchi was very wholesome, it made me emotional every single time. That feels very human.
Yep, the conversation between Nijika and Bocchi is the second best moment of this episode. Nijika, impressed by Bocchi's performance, is assured that Bocchi is a vital part of the band and decides to open her heart to Bocchi about her backstory and calls Bocchi her hero. That is just natural and wholesome. Moments like this makes BTR truly a great show.
yeah, this ending song was sang by Nijika's VA. very bright cheerful song that suit her perfectly. im a musician/guitarist myself so yeah i understand the pressure of being an opener for another band/singer. but put it another way it also meant that nobody's expecting anything from you so we could just go all out and play our best. at least that was my mindset when in that situation. can't wait for the next video!
I really like the fan hierarchy that is revealed in this episode: Kita is a fan of Ryo, which is a fan of Kikuri Hiroi, which again is a fan of Bocchi. Also I'd like to mention that Bocchi actually was the only band member who sold tickets to foreign people who really showed up despite the terrible weather. Also, the two girls wanted to see a performance that can blow away the typhoon, and they totally got what they asked for.
Despite her shyness and severe social anxiety, Bocchi states her motivation for sticking with the band to Nijika without breaking eye contact. She's a badass when she's sincere. Love this show!
Episode 8 is so so good! It’s the first emotional climax of the season. This is the first big step Hitori takes, where her previous attempts were about waiting for others to notice her. Here she commands the attention of her band mates and everyone else by taking the lead! The concert scene is a visual and sound masterpiece. They recorded live actors performing the songs, each paying attention to the individual band members body language. They also recorded live versions of the songs with intentional mistakes, for realism. Then the animators took the live footage, rotoscoped it, then drew 2d over the rotoscoping, and digitally stitched it together. The director and animation staff are god tier. I’ve cried every time I’ve watched it. Top five anime of all time!
First big step that Bocchi took, indeed. You nailed it on the head with "Here she commands the attention of her band mates and everyone else by taking the lead!" And I didn't know that they used live musicians to animate the concert. So cool. CloverWorks knew what they were doing!
Bocchi confronting Nijika this episode directly mirrors episode 5 in which Nijika confronts Bocchi by the vending machine! Such progress from Bocchi and such wholesome moments…
You use the wrong word. A confrontation is when two people with different points of view come to a head. Bocchi just went to talk to Nijika normally just like Nijika talked to her normally back in episode 5.
All the performances are so good and the mixed media jokes are hilarious, but the last scene of this episode is my favorite. Just a quiet talk with Nijika and Bocchi that is so earnest and beautiful.
I watch this scene almost everyday when it pops on my feed to boost my motivation. The way Kita look at Bocchi while Bocchi solely focuses on how she play her guitar is so cute and awesome at the same time.

Hiori once again descends from her alcoholic haze to be the drunken rock angel that Bocchi and the girls needed. No her parents. Not her family. This alcoholic rando that met her once, over a week ago while drunk, showed up during a typhoon to support this other artist who is having her own struggles. All the girls could be best girl in this show, but Hiori is on a whole other level of best girl status. Then later, after the show, when Bocchi has her little breakdown about her future she comes through again. Sitting on the complete opposite side of the table at dinner, she hears Bocchi talking about being a neet, and comes over after the conversation moves on to talk to her about it. I'm not a musician, but i play guitar.
And I swear i'm glad i have a bit of musical bone in me telling me the first performance is weird, that instantly as i recognized someone is dragging, that asshole Fletcher from Whiplash popping off on my mind being the angry monster that he is.
Nijika and her relationship with her sister is so good!! They have a special chapter in the manga dedicated to them which shows their past and coping with their mother's death, it's a tearjerker 😭😭😭
This is the moment where Hitori Gotoh becomes Bocchi the Rock

Quietly, privately, she is there to help Bocchi meet her dreams.
Nijika: *says the thing* “Bocchi the Rock”
