As an American who has spent quite a bit of time living in Malaysia, I can say that the people of the country are very nice and I don't think that they are racist. Americans are more racist. However, the government and the law enforcement are very corrupt and downright stupid. The police are not very intelligent and they are given way too much power. The legal system also does not give people enough ability to defend themselves against the corruption either. The people of Malaysia don't have much rights and freedom, because you can be harassed and arrested for little to no reason. America has a long list of problems too, but people have more rights. If you are a freethinking, liberal-minded person with ambition, you are better off going somewhere else because the government in this country will stifle you.

In fact back in the days, if one can speak Malay, one can go anywhere on the ships because that is the trade language of the world. Nowadays we use English. As for the bad things on the news, the media rarely forecast good things because good things has less interest than the bad things so it is important to keep an open mind when regarding another country.

the things that make me upset when they said they've heard bad things about malaysian.. its sad.. i would like to know what is the bad thing is!

- not lgbt friendly (bad news to them)
- corruption
- prime ministers scandals
- punished or jailed for simple reason (according to them)
- you can get hanged to death for being a drug dealers
- it's racist
- poor management skills (remember SEAsport? dont bash me i'm one of them. I was in the team. I see the insides. IT WAS HULLABALOO. we can do better)
- the sport accident with israel
- the news of north korean prime minister's brother got killed in malaysia
- news about foreigners got punished to death here
- news about foreigners died in malaysia
- malaysia is haunted
- alcohol is expensive here (bad news to them)
- we are muslim country (some are scared of us)
- strict about foods (halal)

- DO YOU KNOW, other countries makes vlog about us, and admitted that we malaysian do jobs HALF-ASSED. WHICH IS TRUE. we have no discipline.

if you're malaysian. show the world you don't do jobs half-assed so that even if we have some cons, there's actually pros in us. we're anti lgbt, because we're a muslim country. that's ok. Drugs is illegal, so yea leave it be, just because other country think we should legalised drugs, don't. Change other things instead. like racism. or be more green. or start doing things with passion. make history. Work together. I know we can do it. Stop dilly-dallying. Start now.
let's start small. how about, stop littering. and make it grow bigger. maybe next, a compost. how about start recycling. we did? RECYCLE MORE.
sometimes we need to start reading. learn more languages. Sometimes it's okay to not mentioning you're malaysian. blend in with the other to see their perspectives on malaysian. watch more documentaries. dont just skip to entertainment, or only came out to politics and religions, start be more aware of other things. How we don't appreciate public facilities, how we wasted a lot of utilities. how we spend our money.
REMEMBER. The lists i showed you above does not mean bad to them that it is bad to us. Some are good to our perspectives. I just want to make us realized that WE ARE LIVING UP TO THEIR EXPECTATIONS. ("oh malaysia have a lot of trash", and BOOM! we actually showed them we littered almost everywhere) if they think malaysia is ugly. Then SHOW THEM WE ARE NOT. stop adding more points to the list.

You don't just get 2 accidents involving airline that shocked the world back to back and not expect people to not talk about them. The missing flight 370 was the strangest accident to ever occur in aviation history. The world was just starting to know about each other (this was early era of smartphone and internet on mobile) so when the first impression of a country is bad, it's hard to forget.
