- In this video, I will show you how to make alcohol lamps from scratch.
These lamps can be used for chemistry projects, cooking, and other useful stuff. Also, these lamps can be fueled by a variety of alcohol including Denatured alcohol (Ethanol), Isopropyl alcohol, Rubbing alcohol, and even Distilled Spirits that you love.
Always use protective equipment like safety glasses, and gloves especially when dealing with denatured or methyl alcohols. Be careful in using alcohol as fuel and always exercise common sense.

As easy as I rememberd from High School. Thank you.
U kept it basic and straight to it great job
Thank you!
the automotive store has vacuum caps which worj perfect as a kid ffor lamps like these
great simple and easy instructions. Thank you!
I made am burner from am ambar bottle, epoxy and a nut to protect the plastic lid, works surprisingly well
I used to make them from empty baby food jars and punch a few holes in a tin can to put on top and made a quick easy camp stove. I could heat water for instant coffee in about 5 minutes.
Very good
That's awesome! Thank you :)
Alcohol is good for burners as it burns clean, low, blue and hot, but when it comes to light, you need to have high yellow flame to be able to generate light, and this is only possible with kerosene especially for wicked lamps. Even oils doesn't work although many claim because oil isn't flammable at room temperature and air pressure and the wick will keep glowing and will be eaten down quickly. Try kerosene and you will be amazed, you can control the power of the light by adjusting the wick length
Add a pinch of table salt to the alcohol. Turns the flame yellow.
The flame in the video was yellow.
Purpose os for heat not light tho
I will buy for my mother. She will use for the flowers. The flame's heat will make the edge of the flowers pedals curvy. I will use Isopropyl alcohol. Is that ok to use it?
Good job bro, thanks for sharing
hello brother, what are the 2 holes on the side of the main hole for? What purpose do they serve
Yea I wanna know that too. Would it not cause the flame to go in the jar and maybe cause a bigger fire?
one hole lets air in, the other out, so that the alcohol level can go down. without the holes the alcohol would stop going up the wick
Great video
How long will it last?
The drinking alcohol only works if it's above 100 proof! (50% abv)
Just in case anyone filled it with Smirnoff and thought something wasn't working- it's gotta be the strong stuff!
Funny and accurate....thnx from Cambria California
I tried using Gin (80 proof) before but I ended up drinking it instead hahaha
Anything around 80 proof will burn if you get it hot enough, you just have to use a blowtorch or something to get it going. Obviously 100 proof or higher will burn better though.
gin won't work??
Whatever drinking alcohol you use, make sure it's around 140 proof (70% alcohol) or higher. Golden Grain is 199 proof, so be damn careful using it either way. Drinking it or using it in your lamp.
Tanks it almost feels like learning in a lab
Nice video keep it up😍
Thanks now I can cook
Thank you...that was helpful
Store it in a Ziplok bag, sure... just make sure the lamp is completely cooled before you do this or you'll be scraping melted plastic off of your lamp.
Hi. Can I try that with methylated spirits?
Any alcohol spirits will do
Great Tutorial Vid !!! Thank-You!!! Any More Gems Like This??
Thanks mate! I'm currently working on a new project. It will be ready in a few days :)
How long would a jar that size burn?
Best guess a couple of hours. Smaller wick the longer the burn time.
Whats the 2 small holes for?
As fuel is used up, it has to draw air in or you create a vacuum.
You could distill any alcoholic beverage and obtain mostly pure alcohol but the cost is not worth it. Alcohol evaporates at a lower temperature so you put the solution into a boiling flask with a vent at the top running to a cooling tube. Preferably coiled to increase cooling time and an ice bath helps condensation. The end of that cooling tube needs to run into a sanitized container that is also heat resistant. Copper was the old material modern day stainless steel for large production or home diy and borosilicate glass (pyrex makes a lot of it) collection flask. Don't do this to make stronger alcohol for consumption. It will kill you and it's going to hurt the whole time you are dying. If it's for fuel purposes full send just maintain safe practices because it's now a volatile liquid. Hey man thanks for making this video I need to do some plastic welding repairs and wax carving tools with an alcohol lamp will work perfectly.
pretty good ty
Can we use kerosene
way to go!
Yes but stinky and sooty.
Nice vidio for making a glass stove but I think it would be safer if you make it from a metal to avoid over heating of the glass
Glass is typically manufactured at 1400 to1600 degrees, and that's SERIOUSLY hot. The heat produced by this burner is absolutely trifling in comparison, ergo it won't cause any problem if the jar is free of obvious defects. Relax.
@@Turrican60 thanks for your kind reply ,glass need only over heating to manufacture it but when it is ready for use as a cup of tea or a jar it easily broke down it happened with many people when putting some hot tea in a cup of glass sometimes it brokedown
Sir ! May i use motorcycle gasoline?
NO! It is explosive!
thank u scientist
عالی بود
واقعا جالب بود
I will buy for my mother. She will use for the flowers. The flame's heat will make the edge of the flowers pedals curvy. I will use Isopropyl alcohol. Is that ok to use it?
does it make bad smell in the room ?
no
I need gelp pls i tried this step 1000 times but when i turn the burner on it takes less than 20 seconds and it turns off
Too tight tube. You need a tube wide enough or fabric loose enough so the fuel can go up without any obstructions.
Where can I get that wide glass jar?
They look like canning jars. I believe one can get them at stores with decent kitchen departments.
you can easily purchase it from your local grocery stores and trusted online retailers/sellers.
can we use any type of robbing alcohol to refill the lamp?
yes you can!
pwede ba yung thinner
yes po, pero medyo maitim lang po yung magiging usok
I bought a new wick lantern this evening,I decided to try the 70% isotope alcohol as my personal third party fuel.
If the results are not positive I would go back to lamp oil as designed which has a suggested bad side effect for some persons...
Bye Bye!
Are you Filipino?
hello can I use isopropyl hand rubbing alcohol (70%) as the lamp's fuel
billy please reply
Yes you can. Higher the alcohol concentration the less soot you get.
pls tell me can i use sanitiser to make it
OK now show us how you will put fire out!
Simple - blow it out.

You can make a hole with a punch hole tool
I think jack Daniels works best for my lamp.
Can I use socks instead of gloves??? Tsaka is there a way to make a diy metal tube? kasi wala ako mahanap na metal tube...
you can use aluminum foil i think
Do not use anything that contains man made fibers.
This is why I respect Africans
Hello
👍
Hello can I use isopropyl hand rubbing alcohol (70%) as the lamp's fuel
Billy please reply
Yep
