Is it Worth the Money? Comparing Tundra TRD Pro vs. Tundra Limited TRD Off-Road

  • In this video, it's Tundra vs. Tundra as Tim Esterdahl gets behind the wheel of the 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro and compares it to the 2022 Toyota Tundra Limited TRD Off-Road that he bought for the channel back in December. The Limited has the 3.5L twin-turbo i-FORCE V6 while the TRD Pro features the Hybrid version, the i-FORCE MAX. How do they compare on fuel economy? Is the TRD Pro worth the money? Did Tim buy the wrong one? Watch this video and let us know what you think!

    Time both are fantastic looking trucks. However the one I want (currently being built) is the Platinum Hybrid. I find it interesting to see people scoff at the towing of the new Tundra, touting that the Ford can do more. What people fail to realize is the 14k towing is a two-wheel drive truck. When compared apples to apples (F150 Lariat and the Platinum Hybrid), Tundra wins the challenge. Maybe you can do a video on towing equally compared trucks.

    we have a 24 limited & I just bought the 24 Platinum I-Force Max ($65k cash) (avg 18mpg) for towing heavy equipment. I couldn't justify the premium pricing for the Capstone or the TRD Pro for what I needed. My 2013 Ram Laramie/Longhorn (175k) now needs a rear-end & manifolds, so needed to replace it.
    As an aside, my older 5.7 Tundra's NEVER had mech issues (180 & 200k), but the 12mpg was tough to take back then.

    I bought the Capstone Tundra to replace my '11 Platinum. The best part of the Hybrid is it removes all annoyances of the Start/Stop Feature. The worst part is it removes all storage from the interior. This becomes even more annoying when you pop off the covers to the "Batter Bank" under the seats to find it is mostly just wasted space. There is Zero storage in this truck cab. Coming from my '11 with Lots of room behind the seats and some under, that has been a pretty big disappointment for me.

    Had a lexus hybrid and the engine went out on me at 130k. My parents had the lexus suv hybrid their engine went out at 90ish k.. Definetly not risking getting a hybrid with toyota/lexus again.. plus those batteries are expensive to maintain if you plan to keep or sell after 8 years.. Also the older they get the less power the output. For long term id definetly go without the hybrid which personally thats what im doing. Good Video Tim. I bought a non-hybrid Limited TRD OR with 6.5 bed and all available options for $61K MSRP, I couldn't justify another $9K for TRD PRO. Sure it would be cool to have, but not enough benefits. Plus I went non-hybrid to have available underseat storage which I am so happy i did. I had the pleasure of driving a Capstone before my truck came in so i could feel the difference in Hybrid engine powertrain, it certainly is fun to drive and the digital dash is cool too. But again not enough benefit for the additional cost.
    Keep up the great review videos!

    Tim, I like your reviews and opinions and I know you're limited to specific comparisons based on availability, but this question would be better asked if you were comparing a hybrid Limited with TRD Offroad package and the TRD Pro. Doing that would eliminate any questions related to the powertrains and just compare the trim levels.
    A Limited 4x4 with the hybrid, Crew max and 5.5' bed with max option package comes in at $63,925 whereas the TRD Pro comes in at $70,315. So, with equal powertrains, do the TRD Pro features justify the $6,390 price increase? Unique interior and exterior stylizations, 1.1" factory leveling kit, Fox Suspension, Larger tires and 18" BBS wheels, & TRD Exhaust are the notable differences I know of and for under $6,000 a lot of things can be done to a Limited.

    Without being able to add a brush/grill guard to the front the Tundra isn't on my list for a new truck now. I will probably just get another Ram Cummings.

    • @CACressida
      @CACressida Рік тому

      You want to add a damage multiplier to the front of your trucks? Never understood why people put those dumb weak things that collapse when you strike a pillow. If you want a real bullbar, theres already a bunch of companies making winch capable bullbars for the Tundra. As for buying a Ram with a CUMMINS not Cummings, apples to oranges, bud. Nobody who uses a 2500 truck cross shops with a half ton unless you're just one of those posers.

      @@CACressida Towing specs for my 2004 2500 Ram is about the same as the current Ram 1500 if not better. 1500 trucks have come a long way from my old Dodge 2500. The grill guard is mostly for going through pastures in Texas. It helps a lot with scraps, pushing small cedar bushes out of the way, etc.. on the front of the truck. Even the payload on the new 1500's are really good compared to my 2004 2500 truck. Just need some basic things that the Tundra doesn't seem to have. Hoping for the Toyota reliability compared to the dodge stuff around the Cummins engine. The Engine is great on my 2004 but the rest of the Dodge parts keep falling off :)

    I wish they would bring these out to Australia. There is talk of it happening, but again Toyota wont build the truck in right hand drive, rather sending left hand drive trucks to be converted in a mum and dad factory, making the truck way to expensive for the average family. Silverado, Ram, are all between $120 grand Australian and $160 Grand Australian, these Tundras will sit the same in price.

But the new ones I just CAN'T get into, Toyota really IMOP just messed up the whole look fo the truck. Could have done ALOT BETTER WITH THE EXTERIOR just see too muc CHEVY styling in it.
