    Thank you for this interview. I have pre-ordered the glasses in here is why. I am a retired cloud engineer. This company has two very qualified AI engineers. One from Amazon, the other from Google. Not only do they have the technical qualifications, but they have the life experience. The lady mentioned she had been programming for Amazon for 15 years. She has the skill set. And the Google engineer does as well. This is what brings the potential of these glasses to the next level. Anyone can make smart glasses. It’s not difficult. Get cheap glasses frames, throw a camera in the center, add a couple speakers on the outside, bam. There’s your smart glasses. What makes them useful to us? The skill set of the software engineers. I believe this team has the skill set necessary to bring us what we all desperately want from AI. So I am in!

    First of all, thank you so much, Carrie! Thank you a thousand times for the work you do for those of us who are blind by bringing us hope for better things to come! I am from Kazakhstan, former Soviet Union, I had previously worked and studied in the U.S. I now teach English and French online here in KZ. I have only recently discovered all this navigation smart Stuff! I only used Jaws and my iphone with voice-over and that was about it! Now, thanks to you, I have all this info to ponder! I ordered the echo vision glasses yesterday, that is, I paid down the 99 bucks! Wish me luck! God bless you, your son and your whole family! Be happy! And don't stop the good work!

    Hi Carrie. Thank you for another wonderful podcast interview! I’ve heard many many podcast interviews that you have done over for several months and I think this product has definitely potential and also the fact that it’s at a decent price under $1000 compared to other will like orca or Envision.
    I gotta say, though that this is one aspect of your channel that I enjoy listening to a lot. Is these interviews with these different CEOs of different products and technology for our community. Thank you for the time and effort that you put into these type of videos.
    Sending my love and a great big hug to you take care and hope to keep in contact with you in the future.

      I'm so glad to hear that you like these videos! I definitely enjoy them as well and didn't think people would enjoy them as much as I do... but I like being able to really deep dive into peoples products or services and projects to observe how they see and approach things.
      As for the Echo Visions, I agree, it feels like the most enticing product yet. Pricing and how it looks and its features sound great on paper at least! or perhaps I should say in interview. :)

    I'm very tempted to buy this too, and I definitely want to find out more first. My concerns are:
    1. They've made big promises about free services, and the price is fairly low. That might not be sustainable.
    2. It sounded like the glasses need internet connectivity to work. That will be a problem when traveling.
    3. I'm deafblind, and I already have hearing aids, so I don't want another set of speakers near my ears
    4. If the AI relies on your phone, it'll probably run through your battery quicker.
    5. Every AI hallucinates sometimes. I'd want to know more about the AI models they're using and how they prevent bias

    • @fuzziestlumpkin
      @fuzziestlumpkin Місяць тому +1

      I agree. The shampoo analogy was good for how hardware product distribution chains work, but shampoo doesn't require an ongoing connection to a server in order to analyse pictures and video and provide audio descriptions of them. There are far too many examples of connected tech that ended up failing quickly because the designers didn't realise how big their running costs would be.
      As for your hearing aids, this is probably some feedback they need. I presume they connect to your phone for audio output? It should be possible to bypass the speakers on the glasses entirely and just have the audio routed through your hearing aids...

    • @carrieonaccessibility
      @carrieonaccessibility  Місяць тому

      These are very fair points. I hope they can sort out the hearing aid issue and as for the rest, AI requires internet for now to be the best it can be. Perhaps there will be a time where the hallucinations will reduce and the AI will require less processing, but we're not there yet. However, if your phone has data, it should still work while travelling. The lower cost also concerns me, but we shall see how it pans out.

    I am excited for these glasses. Their target is the community with a scope to bring a better experience than what's out there. Their focus is to continue adding and enhancing the glasses to give us more options and real use case usage, not a gimmick.
    I heard back from Xiaoran Wang, CEO & Co-Founder, of AGIGA. Quoted from the email I received, "The glasses come with a companion app that can run on both iOS and Android". I hope this answers the question for those unsure.

      If open AI creates their own set of smart glasses it’s over for every other company. They’re gonna take over the whole market, especially since they’re planning on adding their live vision feature where you can walk around as it describes to you in real time.

  • @TheShalimMiah
    @TheShalimMiah Місяць тому +2

    I think the voice memo feature should be like the default iOS Voice Memo app, where the default behaviour is to record audio, with the option to transcribe later if desired. Also, the ability to record audio in binaural stereo would be a great inclusion, as it would add spacial depth to all the memorable moments we capture. It would be nice to be able to record and play back video in binaural stereo too. It might feel like an unnecessary excess to a sighted person, but to a blind person it’s as good as seeing when being able to sense exactly where certain things are positioned, through directional audio.
    Please communicate this message to AGIGA.

    • @AgigaAi
      @AgigaAi Місяць тому +2

      You make a great point about the voice memo feature and the potential of binaural stereo recording for both audio and video. While our current focus is on optimizing voice interaction, binaural audio is not part of our initial design priorities. However, we've kept note of it for future development. We always appreciate ideas that can enhance the experience for the blind and visually impaired community.

    I like the concept a lot. I'll be interested to watch how the product develops. Thank you for asking the important questions. I do like that I can use them apart from my phone if I wish and I also like that the glasses are usable without paying for a subscription.
    I'm still not quite clear about the purpose of the app however. It sounds like it's more of a hub for other services/features or do you have to have the corresponding app open? I'm going to see if I can find that on their site.
    Other than the ability to have a more human sounding conversation with the glasses, I would be very curious to know what other features they are considering implementing that would require the use of the subscription. Because it sounds like to me, they will do everything that I need glasses to do . Sure I can use my phone but I like the idea very much of being able to point my head in the direction of the thing that I want to look at without having to ensure that I have my camera pointed in the right direction

    • @AgigaAi
      @AgigaAi Місяць тому +1

      Thanks for your thoughtful feedback! To clarify, while some features may require the corresponding app to be open on your phone for full functionality, this isn’t always necessary. As for subscriptions, we don’t plan to add them unless we’re clear about the added value they provide to our users.
      If you have any more questions or feedback, feel free to ask!

I too wonder about the app, i.e., available on Android?, dark mode UI?, work well with TalkBack ... things that should be there, but sadly aren't always there. I also wonder about the quality of the components (camera, microphones and speakers. Also, I need a very strong prescription lens. Meta Ray-Ban won't accommodate my prescription. These folks said in the interview that any sort of lens is supported. Time will tell. Like you, Carrie, I am hopeful, but also have been dissappointed by many AT products so I'm skeptical as well. The fact that they worked for Amazon & Google certainly seems to give them a good deal of credibility, but I agree that you should have been able to play around with a prototype to see how it's really going to work. I think they'd get a lot more pre-orders if some influencers like yourself were posting actual experiences of using and interacting with the glasses. I always wish I could try something before I buy it, but watching someone else doing so is the next best thing when that's not possible or practical. Saving $150 by preordering is very very tempting, but noone wants a pig in a poke either.

      Perhaps one day we will get to 30 hours of battery, but with heavy continuous use we still don't get that one phones. I'm waiting for that day, too! :) More pixels don't always translate to better images.

    They are working on a product mostly inspired in the Meta glasses, and count on better answers and OCR as their main differentiators. That gap with Meta AI may not even exist by the time they ship. That's one of the reasons I'm not preordering them myself.

    • @carrieonaccessibility
      @carrieonaccessibility  28 днів тому

      Yes, you're entirely right. It's heavily inspired by them, though they have to at least have modified them since it has an extra button. That button instead of having to tell it what to do over and over sounds really helpful. Also, I've had the Meta glasses since May and haven't seen a significant difference in the AI which makes me both sad and frustrated. I'm not saying the EchoVisions are the answer, I'm not saying they're good... because i haven't seen them in action yet. But I feel like we do need something to improve whether that's Meta or another product, I don't know. Here's hoping though... :)

    This wearable sounds interesting I have a few questions about it which were addressed in your interview but not clear:
    Do the glasses connect to WiFi or Data by themselves through the application OR they will use the WiFi/ Data connection on your phone? I ask this because I am always with my phone and am either switching from WiFi to Data and vice versa when out and about.
    2. Do the glasses need Bluetooth, I am guessing yes. Now I use a Bluetooth neckband , how can I use both the devices on Bluetooth? I have an IOS Device
    3. Do the glasses come with a charging case? If yes how much charge can the case hold and how much charge can the glass provide for a moderate to high user? How much time does it take for the glasses to charge fully? How does one tell the battery % on the glass OR case?
    4. I should have checked this on my phone but is the application available for android and IOS OR just android OR IOS?
    Thank you for reviewing this product for us, much appreciated. Have a good one!

      Thank you for your questions! Here are the answers:
      Connection: The EchoVision glasses will primarily use the WiFi or data connection from your phone.
      Bluetooth Usage: Yes, the glasses will require Bluetooth to connect with your phone. For audio playback, you can choose to use either the glasses or your neckband.
      Charging Case: Yes, the glasses come with a charging case. More details will be shared on our website later.
      Application Availability: The application will be available for both Android and iOS devices, but it’s not ready just yet.
      If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!

    my first impression was proved, that the two CEO are incredibly slow . they do not spread any enthusiasm ir motivation. TheyDo not get me wrong, they are nice persons and the product is great. But the market works different as we all know. i am still using my envision glasses. Advantage is, i do not think that voice comand is the right solution

      How do you like your Envision glasses? One interesting thing on Echo Visions i is that it has a button do do the AI. I'm curious as to how you feel about Envision's interface.

      @@carrieonaccessibility After the last Uptes the system responds quite fast and smooth. The handling is not realy nice, because the device is not symetric. The frame is very sensible. The case is without charging option. You cabn not use it together with glasses. Besides that all i mám using ut once a week and it helps me in many situations.

    • @carrieonaccessibility
      @carrieonaccessibility  Місяць тому

      From what I understand, the app is a companion app and used for setting up the glasses and helps in the background to keep your phone and glasses connected. It also helps for other app integrations and you can access settings and history from there.

    A lot of times I think we need just a stylish extension camera for our phone apps on some glasses or hat, and the rest will do our phone hope fully we’ve out wires. I mean like iPhone SE concept versus iPhone Pro.

    • @carrieonaccessibility
      @carrieonaccessibility  Місяць тому +1

      I love that idea. However, it isn't really as simple as that, though I wish it was. There are so many factors. Just one example is that most apps support external cameras and need to be built out for that. Also, hardware isn't as easy as that unfortunately. I love the idea though! :) Would be really cool.

      As mentioned in another comment, we’ve investigated the idea of a stylish extension camera for phone apps, like you mentioned. However, we don't believe it currently offers a cost-effective solution, but we’ll continue to explore this option in the future. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
