Thanks Mr P! Lovely watch, but I think the strap brings it down too far. And I'd have your 39 instead. So if you fancy selling in on the cheap...... Cheers, Jody
It says a huge amount about the creativity of the Swiss watch industry when all the watch channels are raving that the Tudor 'slightly different from previous models' watches were the talk of Watches & Wonders.
Honestly, this is so bizarre. They released the same watch in a different material, slightly different color scheme or whatever, who actually gives a flying shit? It almost feels like everyone is being paid by the brand to talk about these "releases". Same freaking design for 60 years and people have the balls to call it a release.
You're spot on!
Probably my most worn watch since I bought it in October of last year. The most comfortable dive watch I've ever owned and I've had many. Works great with the Zuludiver Octopod strap and clasp system
It seems that people who buy them just adore them. Glad you like yours!
Bought mine last November
Same here man plus the Tudor Pro it's the 2on my wrist
Now go figure why....
Because it's an awesome watch plus love the roulette date not boring at all and the lume compared with the 39 mm case it's quite a huge amount of different that's for sure a Plus!
Finally pulled the trigger on the Tudor Pelagos FXD and after years of wanting and saving. I love it. I spent 21 years in the Army and interacted a lot on deployments with Aussie and US special Operations. I saw a lot Tudor, Rolex etc. on wrists in Afghanistan being used for what they were built for. Fits great on my 6 1/4 wrist. I love the green/red strap. Being in uniform it goes perfect, not loud strap, black works great. Though you find some issues I don't feel the same, but hey not every watch is for everyone. Great review. US cost is $4100 by the way. I cant keep mine off lol. By the way we call it hook and loop in the military vs Velcro lol. Military and their wording lol.
Spend that money on your kids not a watch.
Great video as always, keep em coming Jody, love em 😍
matte ceramic looks so good, it's crazy so few brands do it
Great review. Fantastic piece and a good alternative to the Sub.
Thanks for another great review. I love my Blue 42 Pelagos!!
Disagree regarding the strap color - I think the green/red is great! But it is too short for those of us with larger 7.5” wrists. I have to remove the strap from the clip to fit it over my wrist. Instead I wear mine on a ZuluDiver Octopod strap & clasp. It’s a great watch though - love mine!
I believe there is a longer version available from the AD.
They do make a longer version which I got, with a 7.5" wrist I feel it's too long. While I like not seeing the velcro material, it creates a "tab" on the end strap which gets caught on everything. So I went back to wearing the standard (medium) length.
There’s plenty of NATO Straps out there Amigo … just saying…
Plus for nowadays I bet nobody wears this watch in deep diving without proper dive computer me saying
Great review Jody, I have the Ranger and am really wanting to see the new BB58 GMT in the hand as I think that will be added to the collection. Keep up the great work mate :)
I have this exact variant - love it! Best tool watch in my collection!
Gorgeous is the word. To me that’s easily the best looking Tudor out there - love the green and red velcro strap as well 👍
The monochrome bb41 is one of the best watches I've seen from the mainstream brands in a long time. Very heavy contender for my "luxury watch" that I'm planning to buy towards the end of the year. The competition being the seamaster 300m
I was exactly in the same situation, torn between the two and the Aqua Terra. I wore all three on the same day and absolutely fell in love with the new BB41 on the 5-link bracelet. For me, the bracelet and clasp of both Omega watches were not acceptable for the price point.
Very nice watch, but is it maybe a little too predictable and plain? Other more interesting divers out there.... but yes, a solid watch for sure
I liked the Pelagos too, it is indeed comfortable on the wrist. But already owning a Seamaster 300 makes this choice redundant. I would say, that it is easier to choose, if You don't have neither of them - then it is not just about the looks. If You need a pure tool watch then go for Pelagos, but if you care about looks, then Seamaster beats it completely with it's transparent back cover, allowing to see nicely decorated 8800 movement. For me, the choice was between Breitling Superocean Heritage and Seamaster 300 Coaxial, and while their faces are on par in terms of their looks, the mechanism, back view and bracelet were a strong win for Omega. Pelagos is a decent tool watch.
@@matinshafaghat4053 I was also let down by the AquaTerra bracelet, not a fan of butterfly style clasps and tool-less micro adjustment is a requirement for me. The Tudor BB58 I looked at didn't have it and I liked the anti-magnetic master chronometer of the Omega. The Tudor having that and the tool-less micro adjustment now put it right back in contention for me. Plus the monochrome looks like the bezel is a little easier to grip
@@Valera_Scotland I'd argue that's part of the appeal. I have plenty of interesting microbrand watches with the intent of them being interesting. The monochrome feels more like a classy refined look that can be worn in a lot of environments
I love fixed lugs! Give you peace of mind.
that Black Bay 85 GMT looks very good, like your style of the video also! Thank you SIR!
My fav Tudor. I do like a 42/22. Great thin bezel. I could almost forgive the hour hand shape. But velcro ... please.
There is a use for this if you are using it somwhere where you could pop a springbar out like actually diving but other than that with not even a date I can't see a use for it at any price.
Good looking watch
Beautiful watch! I love Titanium and I love the FXD line. This is the best one yet.
The colours on the supplied strap look amazing!! Love a nato as they are so understated. HATE bracelets and although I will always love these reviews I have long accepted that myself and JOMW have different tastes.
Nice review. Nick Mankey Designs in the USA offers a custom made strap that does not go under the watch head. Using one on my Tactical Frog. I can recommend for watches with fixed lugs.
Still rocking my bb pro not been off my wrist since July last year.
I have a smaller wrist, but I was surprised how well this watch wears for its size. Super comfortable, too!
Favorite Tudor
I absolutely love the strap color. What I don't like is the velcro. Velcro straps don't last long if used daily and Tudor is probably asking an absolutely ungodly price for a replacement strap, even though they're probably produced in China for next to nothing. Hell, for the price of the watch they should supply 10 replacement velcro straps for free because they're very much a consumable.
@justonemorewatch are there any startup micro brands which make something with a similar style?
Thanks Jody. Can't wait for the Erebus Ascent reveal tomorrow. My credit card is warmed up!
I've got the latest Practical Dog Homage (or is that Strategic Rabbit?). I got one as I'm seriously thinking about getting a Tudor FXD Chrono and wanted to see how it wears .I LOVE it! The brushing is much better than the earlier Tactical Frog and the Lume is fantastic. I know your did a video on the earlier Strategic Rabbit. Would love to see a lume comparison between the new Tactical Frog and the Tudor. I really like the green strap on this Tudor.
I’d go for a standard pelagos over fxd. If you’re ok with grey market Jomashop has competitive prices.
Without a warranty. I wouldn’t go that route
@@RabbitWatchShop Jomashop gives you there 5 year warranty and card for the comes with Factory one and Jomashop warranty. Have used the warranty with jomashop with zero issues. They have been around a long time and honor the warranty. No issues there.
Great review. Hirsch straps used to be open ended and you glued them so leather etc is a possibility. Otherwise, the fixed lugs just seem too restrictive.
Did you change the walls for a third time? They look more purple. Keep it neutral for the wall color.
I love my MN FXD and I'm fighting hard to not pick this one up too. I've had a regular pelly too but the thickness I just couldn't get away with.
I have the original blue pelages and i love it. its the tool watch of the tool watchs.
Green/red is awesome - reminds me of the old Infantry stable belt from the 1980's....
One of the reasons I bought my blue Erebus is because it reminded me so much of the blue Pelagos. They are both fantastic tool watches.
It's 90% the same watch year after year. I really don't understand what all the excitement is about...
Then you don't🤣 understand as you stated.
@@daleyfamily2179 Yep, I'm just too stupid to fork out for a new Tudor every year
It's way more than 90%. Imagine if you went to buy a car and every color available was considered a different model.
@@davisantos3431 Thanks for putting it so succinctly and perfectly! 😁
@@davisantos3431 😂
I've got the MN version, and the only negative for me is that the countdown bezel is 120 clicks, where it should be 60. I use the countdown bezel more than I thought I might, mostly cooking, AND the bi-directional bezel is great for quick dual time reference.
What’s the drawback to 120 clicks? I appreciate the slightly bit of extra precision.
@@FlatsixSTM I think it's the fact that we don't need to go down to 30 second click intervals if the watch is showing 60 second intervals, and I'd appreciate a more positive click with only 60 versus 120. The other aspect is that the whole MN utilization was portrayed as precision to the "minute", not "30 seconds", so to speak. It's not a deal breaker by any means, and the 120 clicks does feel good, I would just have preferred 60 versus 120 clicks.
@@stebesplace thanks for explaining your thoughts. I can see what you're saying. I guess sometimes, I'm ready to time something and the second hand is at 20 seconds or 30 seconds and so it makes it more precise for me to measure 5 minutes from that moment. All this to say, it's amusing how much we think and care about our watches and all these little details. Cheers!
As a french black ops, army parachutiste jumping out of a sub spécialist, i love that one, great job Jody.
Yes
Looking forward to the Ali express FXD frenzy
My dad got this watch a few months ago as a retirement gift to himself. It is without a doubt the most well built watch I’ve ever handled. I absolutely LOVE the green and red strap. This is basically the new Rolex milsub in its purest sense. A future classic no doubt, and probably the way to go if you want an actual “heirloom” piece from the Rolex family that will stand the test of time.
i have the black FXD, and i was talking to someone recently who said they are working on a bracelet for the FXD, should be interesting!
The 39 is just so much better for me. Nicer size, bracelet, can't beat it!
Black ceramic black bay has a display case back as well
If it was me I’ll buy the sterling silver one called Tuapé not sure it it’s correct term but all case is made on silver with bit of aluminium for not getting “patina” plus see throw back case but to be honest this calibres are nothing special but …
If it was a Lange & Sohnne that yes deserves a display back case 👌😉
As a U.S. Navy Seabee, I’m so thrilled to see you representing my community!!!
Love love love my black FXD. Best watch in the business. And it wears well on my 6.25 inch wrist somehow (witchcraft!)
I have the other 3 fxd’s and a LHD , waiting for my ad to call for a fxd US navy
I do agree that there's too much text on the dial nowadays. Older watches, with only 2 lines of text at the bottom looked so much cleaner.
I like it!
Could they not sell a blue strap with yellow stripe?
The perfect working man’s tool watch. The green strap complements the watch styling perfectly, just needs to be longer to fit an 8” wrist. Extremely legible and durable.
From experience (i.e. speaking as someone who has actually tried this one on), it’s surprisingly good. Looks basic but it feels premium and looks super nice. Bit too big for me sadly. I’ll cry myself to sleep with my Bronze BB58 😁
Nice but I would have the Longines spirit Zulu for half the price,, I Know its not a diver but still
Thank goodness they moved back to using the Oyster style crown. Difficult to choose over the Seiko 1965 recreation or its less expensive spin-offs. The calibre has a balance bridge but otherwise looks very similar specced to the Seiko. Interesting. Thanks for the review. PS. I know millions will have mentioned this but it is silicon; no e. (sorry!).
If only they would have given all of us sailors one of these!! Thanks for wearing the shirt, it's always fun to see my service represented in our allies as well!!
I can’t get excited at all about Tudor
Is this just grade 2 titanium?
Tudor is straight fire
Niggle for me is the logo on the velcro strap is in the wrong place, it should be on the middle of the strap loop so it's visible when on wrist.
Remember when you could get a tudor for around a grand? COSC, maybe, maybe not. Over 3 Grand and you eliminate the majority of "I'll save for it" people. Only attainable for the uber rich now. So many companies using the soak the rich sales model these days. My uncle Martin was a Seabee in WWII. Some of the airfields he built in the Pacific Theatre are still in use. Go Navy! Thanks for the great revue.
How many dive watches does Tudor need to make?
Just one more…
Excellent breakdown, thanks. I just couldn't justify paying that much to be stuck with a single pass/NATO option; Tudor killed my interest in this piece with fixed lugs. Love the dial, love the lume, love the dimensions, but this offering is for a specific niche and I'm not it.
Still: go, Tudor, go!
I’m a U.S. Marine, I would have worn this watch, when I was on active duty
Jody I’ve been obsessing over this watch for months. The standard Pelagos is just too thick, the 39 lost the matte finish that I so very love in a tool watch (and was marketed as a fashion watch not a utilitarian tool…wtf?!?!), but this…This watch scratches the itch. If they made this on a bracelet I’d have bought it already. But this review nearly took me over the hump. Me thinks a call to the local AD is in the near future.
My original FXD is my daily watch Clear to read, tough, and a NO date diver!
my v2 tactical frog scratches all of my fixed spring bar titanium tudor needs, without my readers the two are indistinguishable, save for the cheapish velcro strap that looks ok but wont last
You really can’t beat a comfortable diver on a nato. I have my SKX013 on a single pass and it is hands down my most worn watch. It’s not my favorite, it’s just so wearable and versatile that it almost doesn’t matter that I have other watches.
39 Pelagos , 36mm Ranger and a North flag would be my ideal 3 watch collection , currently 0 for 3 though 🤣
I know many feel they are overhyped but a BB Chrono and a Grand Seiko GMT are still my grail watches. Looking forward to Saturday for a watch I can afford…
Note: "complementary" is the one that means "free"
I have to say I really like that watch, and I do like the strap colour, sadly I do not have 6 grand floating about to buy one 😞
I usually get to check out Tudor releases amidst of the hype and feel underwhelmed because they were shoved in my face as 'the Rolex/Omega/general killer of the year'. But then I revisit after the fanfare has quieted down and am very intrigued and pleased with what they've done
Jody has a dedicated Tshirt for each of his arguments
It seems I can’t hold on Tudor watches, something similar to Jody and Oris Diver 65, bought and sold 3 of them so far. There is something that doesn’t resonate with me and Tudor. At some point I will give Pelagos, FXD or 39, a chance maybe they will stick.
83g for a 42mm dive watch and 50mm lugs …..liking this a lot. Not keen on Velcro anywhere near a watch strap
I excitedly went in to the showroom to see how I liked the Tudor watches after hearing so much about them. Once I had the Black Bay on wrist I was seriously underwhelmed. It kind of left me feeling cold and very indifferent/uninspired. I would strongly recommend to those interested to go in person and get it on wrist.
The Tudor SKX007
The chamfers on the Pelagos can’t be polished because it’s Grade 2 rather than Grade 5 Titanium. Lovely watch though, even if I wish it were 40 rather than 42mm.
Joma has a black pelagos 39 for $4100 I'm trying to justify buying. It's a great price.
you only live once.
If you’re like me and poor. Look at the Thorn - you get the look - you get a great super easy adjustable titanium bracelet and you could always stick a £5 crappy Velcro strap on it if you really think you need to.
I rather like all the technical information on the dial as a reminder of just how special the watch that we're wearing is especially when one line of it is in red and it's a deep sea diver .. Yeah that really does it for me that ! Each to their own I suppose. 😉 Unless of course we're talking about the grown up brands In the 80 to 100 thousand pound bracket they wouldn't necessarily need any introduction on the dial. . 😁
U50 SDR for me :)
Is this grade 2 Ti that’s scratches when you look at it too hard. I think for 6 k without a bracelet asking for higher grade Ti is not unreasonable
This is a tool watch. That means scratches are welcome!
How many Ti watches do you have then?
I’m guessing no 6k ones either lol.
What 6k grade 5 Ti watches do you know of?
Tudor will always be grade 2 to Rolex’s Grade 5
Omega do a more expensive grade 2 quartz (although the clasp is grade 5)!
The Non Alinghi FXD’s are fantastic.
What do you have? A Citizen?
I have a LHD Pelagos that I run, swim and live with. After 18 months of ownership there is barely a mark. Not sure what Ti they use. But it holds up well.
@@alfieakaronaldog You got a swiss micro with an inhouse movement called wicked watch, that does a grade 5 on their casses for under a grand, im sure theres plenty of cheaper options than rolex who does it, dont be such a fanboy.
Who cares if it scratches? If you're really really bothered, it can be refinished.
Fun fact, the people who produce the NATO straps for Tudor also produce the same cloth used for the Pope’s robes. Pretty cool IMO.
How on earth do you know that?
@@K.J.H_Jesus told him.
It's just a variation of the same old same old? It's cool though.
As a service member who used to be an infantryman, I think that green strap is perfect for this watch.
P01 the last miss??? I give you the Ranger.
3:42 6.750$ wowwwww in Europe that sells for 4300€ 😳 Jody !!!!!
I couldn't take my eyes (or mind) off the gold Deepsea.
The P01 the last fail??? I give you the Ranger. And if I were a member of the US Navy and given a $3k FXD as a service watch I would assume it was a mistake and go back to setting my dive computer…😉
fxd black my next buy
Nice watch but no one is mentioning the 'complementary' with an 'e'. Well spotted there Jody and thanks for the complimentary education 👀
Love the monochrome…but can’t get on board with fixed lugs. Just buy the bracelet pelagos and you have the same strap options as this, plus rubber, plus bracelet…don’t get it.
I rather think that the black rubber strap makes the whole package looks bland. The green and red Velcro strap is what you need on a black and white watch head.
There's nothing wrong with the lume on the BB58
Needs an orange colored strap
I don’t agree, a brand that mostly focusses on sport watches has little interest for me. Give me a dress watch over anything else. They just look better in my opinion. Tudor produce incredible watches, but their design leave so much to be desired by my standards…. I would consider a bb54 though. Love it as a classic diver, especially on a nice brown leather strap.
I agree. The black rubber strap looks far better.
I love VC & Omega. But I keep getting drawn towards the Tudor. Really fancy the the new BB monochrome.
Hello
Hellooooo Mr Sooooooo!
You know what to do now Jody....tell us about the AliExpress alternatives to this watch 😅
Making the same watch with super soft titanium over and over again.
