One of the best albums of the 90’s UK Rock explosion of bands. Supergrass and Super Furry Animals just made albums that they wanted to make. And both were faves .
Youthful exuberance is right lol. Alright was their biggest hit, but they were only like 18 here & it's a pretty poppy track. Personally, I like their later stuff better; which is some of the best of the Britpop genre IMO. It's a shame they never broke it in the US, as they are uber-talented. Brilliant song writers and so original with their song structure, chord changes and they're very Beatles-influenced. Would love to see you guys check out Richard III, Late In the Day or Moving ✌
The mid-90s was probably the period in recent history when popular music tastes were most different between the USA and the UK. Pop and Rock ('Britpop') stayed huge in Britain while Grunge was all the rage across the Atlantic.
Britpop is the new wave of new wave. '90s, '00s was its peak. British alternative music. Its' kind of Beatles inspired rock, too. Some psychedelic/shoegazy, pop-rock, indie pop, punk rock influence, new wave/post-punk influenced some synthy, etc. Britpop bands like The Verve, Blur, Oasis, Radiohead, Pulp, Suede, Elastica, Travis, Coldplay, Supergrass, My Bloody Valentine, Stone Roses, Jesus and Mary Chain, Lush, Slowdive, Stereophonics, Feeder, Bloc Party, Artic Monkeys, PJ Harvey, Republica, etc Also, many people have been listening to music from the UK for years, decades past and present. Lots of influences, too. Many American bands for example: Metallica (especially early Metallica) was inspired by older UK punk rock and NWOBM (New wave of British metal). No Doubt was inspired by ska-punk from UK bands and new wave/post-punk, synthy. The Killers are inspired from new wave/post-punk, some synthy. Interpol is inspired from UK post-punk/darkwave gothy bands like Joy Division, same for Yeah Yeah Yeahs (from Sioxsee and the Banshees, The Cure, etc). Santigold inspired from a lot of new wave/post-punk UK bands. Green Day (especially early Green Day) inspired from older British punk rock Also some rappers and R&B artists influenced by some UK music. And many more other examples. . Next for Supergrass yall should check out videos "Pumping on Your Stereo", "Richard III", "Sun Hits the Sky", "Grace", etc Songs from the '90s and '00s. Funny yall mentioned Madness "Our House" They were a very fun influential new wave/post-punk, ska band from the late '70s, '80s and early '90s. Also from the UK.
@@IntoTheWhite04 It wasn't just fixated into a 4-5 year period. Those were the PEAK years. It's actually from late '80s - early parts of '00s. Mid '90s were the PEAK years.
My favorite of them is Mary, the song is somewhat sinister but with a lot of fun, the guitars and especially the electric organ make the melody very interesting.
I have heard this and really like it , it reminds me if you look at this video of watching The Monkees sing we are the young generation Hey Hey We are the Monkees. Its same kind of theme. But I like this its a feel good song that you feel young and happy. and they got that cute look that teen girls are going to go for
Try "Moving" from their self-titled 1999 album. One of their best tunes from a ridiculously underated album. It is such a big leap from the novelty vibes of "Alright": moody, artsy, and even groovy...enjoy!
Having not heard it enough to get sick of it, I instead was able to love this song and video every time I've seen it. I love the energy of it all. This time it managed to bring a tear to my eye though. That sucks.
they remind me of a Canadian band called Sloan. actually i should say just this song. not sure on their other songs but this sounds like something Sloan would have sung.
Supergrass were are huge part of the 1990's Brtipop era. Stephen Spielberg was actually planning to make a TV show with them. To be a like an updated version of The Monkees however it never happened. Britpop was unique to British shores and Supergrass were at the forefront.
I apologize in advance for the namedropping, but I used to be a musician and when my band went to America for the first (and only) time, we played the same festival as Supergrass. (I think it was their first time in America too.) We got talking and went out and got drunk together. Great fun! Very nice guys!
@@mekkio77 That wasn't the purpose of the anecdote, you know. But OK, we were The Time Lodgers from Oslo, Norway. (Similarly melodic, but a fair bit more lo-fi than Supergrass)
This is from the height of 'Britpop' where Indie became more commercial than ever before, up to this point Indie music was always coined as 'Alternative' music and even had its own chart, magazines and radio station slots, even its own midweek slot at most nightclubs, these guys would have grown up with post-punk, mod revival (Our House - as you point out) and 80's Indie/Alternative which was their main influence, this was a great fun band, great to dance to, they'll never be revered as one of the greats, but no one can ever argue that they weren't FUN!
One of the great bands that never broke big in the US, makes me feel old, they have a Rotary telephone in the video.. When music was just fun, not much of that today.
I remember partying in a cave, behind a waterfall with my school mate's back in the mid 90s and singing this very loudly while inebriated, lol. We was away for the weekend doing the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme. Great treasured memories.
you say its not exactly how you think of pop because its britpop a British pop music culture from the 90s just seen you guys reacted to oasis aswell, HUGE HUGE part of britpop
Another track (& video) of theirs that share the same 'Madness' of 'Our House' fame kind of not really taking it seriously vibe is 'Pumping on your Stereo' - & their track 'Richard III' is just a straight up Rocker. Well worth a listen.
I love that you’re reacting to off the beaten path artists that were talented but were largely overlooked in the states. You should react to to their other songs like: -Going Out -Caught by the Fuzz -Diamond Hoo Ha Men -Rush Hour Soul -Mary -Grace
"Youthful exuberance" sums up quite well hw the mid-90's in the UK were an optimistic time. We had blazing hot summers, the Tory government on its way out, Euro 96...., and Britpop.
This strikes something deep in my childhood memories - pretty sure it was used on several Bri'ish TV adverts, and possibly in an episode(s) of Baywatch? I forget what other Britpop you reacted to already, but Blur, Pulp, Oasis and The Verve are all out there, and a degree of separation away are Embrace, Manic Street Preachers, The Charlatans, Ash, Garbage, Stereophonics, Muse...
Supergrass were one of my faves in the mid 90’s. This whole album “I Should Coco” is brilliant and although Alright was the main hit I think it’s my least favourite song on the album. Top tracks by Supergrass are Mansize Rooster, Caught By the Fuzz, Lenny, Sitting Up Straight, Strange Ones and from their 2nd album Richard III and Sun Hits The Sky.
They have a fun song called "Pumping on Your Stereo" that you should check out. Also a lovely ballad called "Low C" where they shot the video up at Weeki Wachee!
so fun being able to hear so many songs for the first time again through you guys. check out supergrass - mary, totally different vibe. or pilot - magic, if you haven't already. cheers.

The genre is Britpop -- a music form that swept Britain from 1993 to 1997. It was a guitar-driven, retro sound that heavily mined Britain's past, because it served as a counterweight to American grunge. Supergrass, like Blur, were very influenced by The Kinks.
Man, this song was the sound of summer back in the 90s 👍👍👍👍
Summer of 1995 I think. Was everywhere
@@ltd1980 yes
Good old Britpop, what a time to be young.
“Caught by the fuzz” is another good one of theirs
Their album In It For The Money is a bone fide classic. So many great, catchy songs.
Top LP. No filler
My fav album by them. Banger!
Ya it rocks!!
One of the best albums of the 90’s UK Rock explosion of bands. Supergrass and Super Furry Animals just made albums that they wanted to make. And both were faves .
I got the album with a extra disc of their B-sides. Good stuff!
Supergrass " Pumping On Your Stero" is a total rocker....hopefully we'll get a 90s stream soon!
Yes but please not on live stream. I'm in the UK. We don't get the live streams.
Banger. Big Rolling Stones influences on that one. Fun clip too.
@@paul.kristoff I always thought the music on that track sounded like T-Rex with vocals sounding like a cross between 70s Jagger & Bowie
@@rosa32 Yes we do, just at inconvenient times

Youthful exuberance!! That’s it exactly!
Nice location at Portmerion in North Wales where the tv series The Prisoner was filmed
Nice. One of the best, and most consistently quality British bands from the 90s. Brad nailed it.
Stereophonics is a great Brit band to checkout
Indeed.
Can't stress this enough! pleeeeeeease yes , you need some Kelly Jones.
Defffooo!!!

Supergrass are criminally underrated. Try “Richard III”
oh man these britpop reactions are hitting me hard with nostalgia. right in my informative years. getting me emotional.
Formative years. Unless you spent your teenage years imparting useful information to all and sundry?
Love love love! Supergrass! English 90's pop just rock's!
I love this song. Always makes me smile. Now it’s in like a million commercials so it’s strange hearing it in random places.
The mid-90s was probably the period in recent history when popular music tastes were most different between the USA and the UK. Pop and Rock ('Britpop') stayed huge in Britain while Grunge was all the rage across the Atlantic.
also part of the "clueless" movie soundtrack

Gaz, the singer, had just turned 19 when this came out.

Would be a great tune for them to react to on their Halloween night stream.
Agreed 👍🏻
MOVING by Supergrass... most definitely
saw them live in '97, good times.
Ah man so cool to dabble with a bit of Brit indie. Was great at the time.
Try Pulp - Babies!

This was very popular in England reaching number two in 95 but hardly showed anywhere else and not at all in US. Surprise. Too quirky?
If you want a some more Supergrass, I recommend the much rockier Richard III.
They sound like Supertramp
More "underground" music charts in the UK. I don't know why but the masses over in the UK are more open minded when it comes to music.
