- Rare Ny Mets promo film and highlight reel of the 1964 season. This film I remember seeing during rain delays during Ny Mets Baseball on WOR-TV in the late 70s. this short film reel was Recorded off a VHS to DVD and a recent addition to the MLB Game archives. Now digitalized clean up some including audio.
Interviews with Mets manager Casey Stengel in spring training in St. Petersburg some highlite footage taken at the Polo Grounds in 1963 and includes early construction footage of Shea Stadium getting ready for opening day 1964.
Glad to be able to put this rare promo film up on UA-cam for all the Met or MLB fan (Shea Stadium Era) don't think this has been on youtube before. - Спорт
This is sure a great find on UA-cam for a baseball fan. Born in 1953 in St. Louis I remember the 1964 Mets team well. Despite being a last place team the Mets almost prevented the Cardinals from winning the pennant. After the Cardinals had come from way back in the standings to take over first place going in to the final weekend in St. Louis the Mets came to town. Al Jackson of the Mets beat Bob Gibson on that Friday night 1-0. How can that be? Then the next day the Mets beat the Cards real bad that Saturday. Bob Gibson then returned to beat the Mets that Sunday to help with the pennant as he came in as a relief pitcher. The Cards then beat the Yankees. I have heard it said though that playing a team not under pressure in the stretch run makes for a very dangerous team.
Had the Mets won on that last day, there would have been a three-way tie for first place.
Born in 1953 in Connecticut your team beat my team, Bob Gibson was a great pitcher!! Great memory's from our youth!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Should have retro-renovated Shea as they did Dodger Stadium.
If a team could finish below last place it would be the Mets. Can't wait to see the '64 Mets in their new home.
Thank you for posting this! It was so enjoyable. My very first baseball game was in May 1963 to see the Mets face the Milwaukee Braves when I was 11 years old. And little did we know that only 5 years after this video was made, they would be world champions!
I remember buying an 8mm silent home movie version of this exact film as a kid. That was long before home video tape so 8mm was the only way you could watch movies at home.
"Casey is determined that this year the Mets won't finish below last."
That's the spirit!
Thank you for this posting...
Back in the "old days" we used to say if the Mets and the Jets and the Nets played each other....no one would win.
Casey referred to that rookie crop as the Youth of America.
Shea stadium is now a distant memory.
What a great baseball phenomenon.. Casey …the Man 🤩
Horace Stoneham was hardly a rich fellow.
There were some real funny parts of this film. Great way to start the day

The writer of this film was Gene Wood. The SAME Gene Wood who went on to work for Mark Goodson-Bill Todman announcing their game shows. Best known for announcing with Richard Dawson on "Family Fued."
Thanks. Was wondering where Ive seen the name.
I remember when gene wood hosted “beat the clock “
Meet the Mets
7:06-7:10 & 13:07-13:15 Hilarious!
Yes 😄😄❤️❤️
7:06 for sure 😄😄it’s a New York thing Ha
Can someone please explain to me why the mets retired Casey Stengel's number?
Why not?
It is not easy to lose 120 games....it takes a special talent
He was instrumental in bringing and keeping fans watching while the team was truly terrible. He set the tone for the Mets fan base that continues to this day and without him, it is unlikely the Mets would have achieved and maintained the popularity they had in the 1960s. No one remembers bad teams when all they do is lose. The Mets lost with style and humor! And most of it courtesy of Casey. And I believe that's why he was honored with a retired number.
I love this channel! Keep up the great work!
He was an expert in publicity! If Casey didn't make the early Mets entertaining no one would of shown up! The funny thing is that his Stenglese makes sense!
@@johnkhoury1787 And it is the only number issued once and only once by the Mets.
