Brings back so many memories of the old ballpark in The Bronx. Bob Sheppard's iconic voice was a direct connection to the glory days. A simpler time when you didn't need much money to go to a game, and most players weren't millionaire prima donnas, played with heart and for the love of the game.
My dad went to some Yankees games in the late 60's and can remember his voice echoing, "And now bating bating bating.... number seven seven seven, Mickey Mickey Mickey, Mantle Mantle Mantle...."
Hilarious---they are giving an award to Con Ed...6 days before the blackout of '77. Bob Sheppard was the Voice of God, and that was a great era to be a Yankees fan, brought back a lot of memories.
This brings back memories. I lived in the Bronx then and I grew up in Yankee Stadium it seemed. I grew up in the late 70's and 80's. My childhood was centered around Reggie, Thurman, Randolph, Pinella, Mattingly, Righetti and Windfield.
This guy’s voice is legendary!! I only can go back as far as 90’ bc of my age lol. Donny Baseball, Kelly both P & R, Nokes, Hall, and Sax to name a few! Miss old Yankee Stadium.
I remember watching Yankees games growing up in Detroit and the games I watched from Yankee stadium I used to love it because hearing Bob Sheppard as a kid gave me goosebumps. When he would speak I used to think if we could hear Jesus talk he would sound like Bob Sheppard.
I went to my first Yankee game in 1967. Those teams were bad and the huge ballpark was basically empty. That, in combination with the great alliteration of M/M, made it so special when he said: M I C K E Y M A N T L E ! !
What, Reggie batting sixth? Also, Rick Waits, the Indians' starting pitcher in this game, beat the Yankees in the last game of the 1978 regular season to force the AL East playoff between the Yankees and Red Sox. Bob belongs in the Hall of Fame.....always a pleasure to hear his sterling voice. By the way the Yankees won this game 8-2. Piniella homered and Catfish was the winning pitcher.
Reggie batting sixth lmao. Billy was nearly fired during this month in 1977 and did get shitcanned a year later for the same kind of cynical interference. He benched Jax for the deciding ALCS 77 game and the Yanks were dead until Jax got an at bat and RBI that started the comeback in 8th. Yanks won despite Martin not because of him.
Martin’s firing in 1978 had far more to do with the comments he made about George and Reggie, not the fact that every once in a while Reggie wouldn’t bat fourth and play right field. As to the last thing you said about Billy, on some level that was true. He had a far more positive influence in 1976. But Reggie does deserve some of the blame as to why they couldn’t get along.
This is definitely Bob Sheppard. I'm old enough to have heard him at Yankee Stadium in the 1960's and 70's. He was in his 26th year as Yankee Stadium PA announcer, not quite half way through his career.
We HAVE to recreate his voice AI 😀
Or you could hire Christopher Lloyd as the PA announcer. He has a very similar voice to Sheppard - when he's not playing an eccentric scientist.
The voice of God. No one can replace him. Jeter demanded he be announced by Bob on tape after Bob died.
I thought that John Facenda was the Voice of God...

Blasphemy.
He was also the PA announcer for the NY Giants at Giants Stadium for a while.
And at original Yankee Stadium before the move to the Yale Bowl.

In 1977 - this would have been the renovated Yankee stadium- hence I assume they improved the stadium speakers/acoustics maybe?
Exactly 30 years later after this my son was born. We did not name him “Seven” ala George Costanza, but we did joke about it.
Love his voice ❤

This is absolutely fantastic. The quality of this audio is crisp & clear. Thank you for preserving and sharing this timepiece

This is gold, thank you very much!
The "Voice Of God". I was lucky enough to hear his voice during the 60's as he introduced Mantle and the other NYY's players.
I was at MSG that night, watching Emerson Lake & Palmer. The Works Tour. The four 7's make it easy to remember!

RIP to the late captain Thurman Munson
Great upload! Thanks for sharing.
My pleasure.
@@baseballdiscourse Great find! Thanks for posting.
Awesome voice I remember so well!
This game was 15 days before i was born.
Thank you for this!
Goosebumps
He sounded so young and strong.
He was still just 66

THE VOICE OF GOD.....the best
In New York he was in Philly it was the voice of NFL John Facenda
6 days before the NYC Blackout
Yes, and around a month before they caught David Berkowitz, the Son of Sam. An unforgettable NYC summer, for sure.
And for the Yankees......
Great Memories!!!
Also the voice of Giants Stadium.
strange cause i remember him saying number 15 thurman munson number 15....always repeated the number....guessed he was rushed that night

In Martins doghouse from day 1
He also had Nettles batting 8th which was shocking.
Yankee killer LH pitcher Rick Waits on the mound thus shuffling the lefties down in the order.
The Voice of God
Tough & talented Yankee club. “Rico Carty” Hitter.
Just think-years ago you could look across the Harlem River and and the Polo Grounds. Now it's no longer there.
Reggie batting 6th??
The voice of God
Whew 😢I thought it was jo 💀 biden😂😂

You're clueless, gil.
Do not speak again.
Reggie happened to be struggling. Back then a Manager managed and wasn’t the players buddy.
complete game in 2 hours and 12 min. baseball has lost its way
Summer Of Sam and the blackout.
number six roy white number six
This isn't Bob Sheppard. Close though.
This is one hundred percent Bob Sheppard.
Well he actually sounds different since this is from the late 70s and not from the early mid and late 2000s

@@anthonys4362It could be Jim Hall, who sounded just like him. He had the same cadence and was Sheppard's backup.
Graig Nettles batted 8th? I thought he was more of a number 5 hitter. Cliff Johnson clean up hitter? GTFOH
Must have been facing a LH starter that night.
