- Field test - Mirkit Baofeng UV-82 MK5 tripower radio
Antennas used:
Nagoya NA-701
Abbree: 13" and 42"
Mirkit UV-82 Full House: www.amazon.com/dp/B08W5DH3SQ
Video goes through the disappointing attempts at contacting other hams through repeaters, using a handheld radio. My location was high in the mountains where I had direct Line-of-sight with the repeaters. No contact. A particular point of failure here was to bring another radio to compare performance.
This could be for a variety of reasons:
voice could not carry over the distance?
no one was listening? (not likely)

I love tests like this. It's good to know where and when you can trust your gear. I have a similar video planned for next year using a directional antenna. Keep up the good work. Glad to see you in the backcountry.
Good Morning, and thank you Gaston! It's really the only kind of test that has meaning to me. I should have really had a second radio to test against. Next time. I would really like to get a directional antenna in the air for some of these backcountry tests as well.. It will be great to see how you approach this. I always learn from your adventures and gear tests. Happy New Year buddy.
"Signal Report"
As it turns out, my signal, or specifically my audio wasn’t getting thru.
Beautiful country, did you take a proven radio with you - that is what I try to do when I try new equipment.
You know, I didn't think about that until after the fact! Normally I would have, but it was kind of a mad dash to get out there... which kinda stinks. I had wanted to compare it to my Yaesu FT-25r.
OMG! You talked into it! I heard you cannot ever talk. So far this thing totally sucks
haha, yeah, turns out no one could ever hear me on that terrible radio. Should probably do a follow up, but life caught up with me and I haven't had the time.
