bet was a gambling term way before it was used for everyday use when someone would offer a game in golf or pool the termology was always "u got action" or "bet" its now being used with regular people back then it was used by people that had heart and werent afraid of action and a willingness to risk it

He works in online media. He has a large twitter presence and is necessarily on social media. He inevitably is going to be exposed to this sort of language far more than the average person his age.

I first heard "slap" in the last season of lucifer when rory talked about her favorite band.
I grew up in urban culture so naturally I still use some slang. I turn it on & off depending on who I'm conversing with. Funny how slang gets recycled & sometimes takes on new meanings for a different generation. I'm a '90's teenager so "Dank" was one of several words for weed! I admit that even during my teens I thought some of it didn't make sense, just like today, so I didn't use some of it. I only keep up now in order to relate/ communicate with younger generations. Many of them work for me or have played AAU basketball for me or gone on summer Mission trips with me. It forces me to keep up lol!
Even being part of Gen Z, I'm learning the language along with this guy. 😂
