It's comforting to know that I'm not the only one who felt this ad scared the shit out of them as a kid never wanting to go back to the cinema because of that loud, jarring noise!
Ahah this used to scare the shit out of me when I was younger. Whenever it came up at the cinema I had to curl into a ball or bury my head in my mother’s arms. That sound just as the iron slams into the screen used to keep me up at night
Oh god that brings me back. “DON’T LET THE PIRATES BURN A HOLE IN YOUR POCKET” or something like that. Obviously looking back it’s silly as hell but as a wee lad it terrified me
That almost jumped out at my skin when I was little and I seen this at BFI IMAX (than I went to see Cyberworld 3D), Odeon Lee Valley, Vue Cinema Islington (in 2004 when I went to see The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie) and Cineworld Bury St Edmunds.

How to fighten children and give them nightmares, never wanted to go the cinema because of this terrifying ad
Same here I was genuinely shook by this as a kid I used to panic so much about going to watch a film.
I'm glad I wasn't the only one I was terrified

I used to be petrified of this at the cinema too!
It was actually used from 1996 to 2008 in the UK but continued up to 2014 in Ireland.
Thank you so much for scaring all of us as kids, Carlton.
Our pleasure!
Just remembered this tonight - absolutely TERRIFIED me as a kid, closed my eyes and everything
Ah yes this used to scare me.
My older brother used to grab hold of my arm at the last minute to make me jump
As a kid, this got me PUMPED to see the ads in the movie. There, I said it.
Same!

I thought I'd imagined this for years as I could never find it. This absolutely terrified me tho
Thanks Carlton, for jump scaring kids when they let their guard down and were relaxed to watch a movie including me.
Ah! So I didn't conflate the Carlton idents and the anti-piracy PSA in my head; this ident WAS real!
Thanks for refreshing my memory.
The scratchy film quality makes it even creepier.
and vibrato sound
It's because it's an old film reel from the 1990s.
1996
It’s like that anti piracy ad with that guy burning the dvds
@@sgnjamcitydevteam6913 Lol yep, that was a childhood phobia of mine.
Reminds me of Anti Piracy vhs Advert!
The one with the guy burning the videos?

@@officialFredDurstfanclub Also the one where some guy was like telling people the pirates was coming to get them-

It was still shown in Ireland as late as 2014.
Anyone else remember this?
Bro this used to terrify me in the cinema 😂
Ha, ha, a lot of people say that!
Irish Simpson fan page brought me here
“There is now a danger that is a threat to us all...”
"It is a deadly disease that has no known cure..."
“It is.. oh shit wait”
