    2:27 is the magic one for me. I saw so many films in the mid to late ‘90s with that ident. Stuff like Under Siege, Jurassic Park, Demolition Man, Cliffhanger, Independence Day, etc, etc. I really need to get a copy of this so I can play it before I watch a film.

    Thank you very much for posting this... I have on and off been searching for the trip-hop strings intro (06:14) for aaaaages! It brought back many a good memory hearing/seeing it again! ✌🏼

    5:45 is the one I first remember. I can still remember the flip note of it before actually seeing the ident.
    But 5:07 - 6:44 bring back many memories of going to the old odeon in my town before they moved it. Saw many films there between 2000-08.

    Everytime i hear 1:12 i'm back in the Odeon torch in hand showing people to seats! Cinema should go back to this kind of service and 35mm! Now theres no music, no curtains and your effectively watching a big TV.

    • @JayMcLaughlin
      @JayMcLaughlin 6 років тому +3

      MattF340 I was thinking he same thing. As soon as I heard that music the memories came flooding back!

    • @MattF340
      @MattF340 4 роки тому +2

      @Jack Torrance Yes it was better, better atmosphere, better quality of projection (No such thing as a projectionist these days in most cinemas), screens behind curtains didn't get as dirty, if people came in late they were sat promptly rather than now when they stumble around in the dark trying to see their seat number and have to resort to getting their phone flashlight out disturbing everyone else. 35mm vs digital projection is more personal preference but in the cinema environment 35mm presented well beats digital for me every time, there is just so much more clarity and depth to the picture.

    • @r00tan16
      @r00tan16 Рік тому

      im a current cinema host at odeon, the depressing thing is we still have the equipment to provide reel projection, but its easier to use digital so no one bothers anymore. instead its upstairs collecting dust, much like everything else. its sad

  • @johndufton9686
    @johndufton9686 3 роки тому +6

    It's very sad to see a company the shadow of its former self. The rot set in when Odeon was sold by Rank and the company was then asset stripped by subsequent private equity companies to become the debt ridden morale sapping behemoth it has become today. The change can be seen in logo design where the 1930's red lettering was changed in 2000 to silver.

    Odeon The First Choice in film entertainment. Odeon has been around a long time in Britain and has the experience in film and how to present it too on the big screen. I remember it all well too watching films in Odeon Cinemas all over Britain . Today's Odeon has moved on in 2021 and multiplexes replace the preferred cinemas of our past but it's can still out shine its competitors and is still the leading brand in the UK.

    I think the Harrogate Odeon was used as the basis for the cgi design used in the Odeon First Choice and 2nd Generation title sequences.

    • @W3KTS
      @W3KTS 3 роки тому +4

      Right and wrong!!! It's NOT a CGI sequence! I designed and produced these when I was Creative Director at National Screen Productions in 1987 and I had a huge model built in glass and perspex. You're right about the Harrogate Odeon: I based the model on drawings of it and the Odeon at Morecambe... and finished it off in the shiny gloss black that the Odeon Middlesbrough used to sport. We lit it appropriately and did a multipass motion control shoot all on 35mm. The first music was library with Bill Mitchell's voice (award-winning..) and the second version had a Pet Shop Boys style theme written by the son of The Shadows' drummer.

      @@W3KTS well, I certainly never expected to hear from the guy behind it! Great to know how it was made and filmed, it’s certainly imbedded in my memory, and I always think of 2nd Feb titles whenever I visit an odeon today, I guess that’s the indelible power these sequences had.

    You're missing one from 2011, where the colours burst out and they formed "Odeon Digital 8000 HD". I saw this in 2014 before a showing of The Lego Movie at Odeon Printworks in Manchester.

      Hi. Thanks for letting me know. I'll make sure to add that ident in a future compilation video. If you know where I can find a good quality copy of it online as the one on Odeon's UA-cam channel is in a crappy 240p copy, please by all means, let me know by sending in a host site or download link. Thank you for notifying me and I hoped you enjoyed the compilation video regardless :)
