Loved holidaying in Blackpool in the seventies. We always stayed in self catering flats. Was there in the summer of 1976 when temps were in 90's every day for a fortnight.Pleasure beach was free ,you could just walk in but books of tickets.Thousands of deckchairs for hire on the prom.Students had summer jobs taking money etc for them. The old green and cream trams.Woolworths,Lewis's, Goldberg s etc open. All the markets in town and along Lytham road.Happy days.
I was there to in Blackpool on my summer holidays in 1976, Yes the weather was fabulous very hot, me & my brother were on the beach and in the sea every day. Great memories.
@@michellepeoplelikeyoumurde8373 Then we go inland and look at Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, London, Newcastle, etc - oh wait dam. All Labour and Looney Left wing run cities. That are falling apart with looney policies.
@@michellepeoplelikeyoumurde8373 Then we go inland. And all the major cities that are falling apart are controlled by Labour. Oh and just to create some heartbrake tje Conservatives were only in control for 4 years from 2007. Labour have been in control more often since 1994. So in effect, it’s actually Labour that have destroyed Blackpool. 6 of the last 7 Mayors were Labour. How’s them bias apples?
We went to Blackpool every year in the 70's for our summer holidays, And we always stayed at Mrs Norths B&B South shore. Great time's Great memories 70's & 80's. ♥️🗼🇬🇧
I vaguely recognise some of these places, the bus station in particular. The Funhouse, Pleasure beach and the ice rink. Also the spinning wheel at 0:40. Was it called the wall of death? Reminds me of how robust we were as children. It would be banned today.
My parents took me and my brother here in about 1973, i was 9 and it was the best holiday ever. We stayed in the Seafield hotel. I still remember the family room we all slept in. I remember too winning the donkey derby and claiming a draught set as my prize. Brilliant brilliant times
Blackpool was more fun then than now, fond memories of the tower, swimming in the Derby baths, playing slot machines, eating candy floss, the Golden Mile, tramride to the old school Pleasure Beach to enjoy the Fun House in obligatory stockingfeet and went on all the other rides.
I worked summer season 1975 as a barman for norrie and yvonne barlow at station hotel talbot rd.best time of my life. stan morteson the football hero was a regular visitor.
And today, with all the spent (or wasted), you could film a dystopian movie. Blackpool councillors, over the last 30 years, have a lot to answer for. They have trashed the place. Blackpool could, and should be one of the best places in the country to live.
Does anyone remember the 2/11 store, I think it was on the corner of the prom and Waterloo road. Everything in the shop was under 3 shillings (15p). Was back in the 60s so a long time ago. Used to love going in there.
Slight correction, the shot of a tram in Fleetwood would have been the 80's as the tram in question (Bolton 66) only arrived in the Blackpool in 1981. Enjoyed pictures generally though.
This is magical , it won’t be anytime soon ,nor in many viewers who appreciate this’s lifetime ,but I hope my old Hometown never forgets this is *Blackpool*
So sad to watch this. I remember Blackpool when it was a busy bustling town, with happy memories. Look at it in 2024, hardly anybody on the beaches in Summer. It has become a shithole. Last time I was there, even the donkeys had left !
For blackpool see every seaside town in the uk ,its over im afraid , people can jump on a plane for buttons and get a better weather and value for money ,sad but its a fact .
What a comparison as to being a kid teenager in 70s once great, now a forgotten ghost town. Summers were better in 70s whichever resort you were holidaying.
Holidays in Blackpool in the 70s with parents and grandparents were brilliant. Go back now and then to see my grown up niece who has moved there. What has happened !!!!! The one time great holiday centre has lost is character and has nose dived down hill. Such a shame.
Very evocative. We used to go to that Egg & Bacon cafe at 0.55 when were were on a caravan holiday in Blackpool in 1968. The staff were very pleasant and the food was nice, but they later got done for poor hygiene! Oh dear!
Grew up in Blackpool through the 70’s, live on the south coast now, I go back to visit family, Blackpool town centre is a shadow of its former self, so many shops gone from there that I remember, all the independent businesses, now it seems to be cafes and national chain stores, nothing of interest
Such a pity, after including some great photos from Blackpool in the 1970s, that most of the photographs of buses and trams are from the 1980s and early 1990s.... Bolton 66 tram did not arrive in Blackpool until the 1980s...... the revised green and cream livery on the double deck open platform buses and single deckers did not appear until the 1980s and the HandyBus in Poulton-le-Fylde was not delivered until 1988. The double decker bus on the title page was not repainted into the green roof and stripe livery until the 1980s either. Other than the public transport, this is a superb video.
I know I'm supposed to be supporting Blackpool's changes, but I'm not !!!! The 'changes' that have been made, have only been beneficial to the greedy developers, that have 'milked' the town for all it's worth. I love "BLACKPOOL" and its people. I hate these 'money-grabbing' self centred pigs that see 'profit' as a central goal, rather than the delightful area for all to enjoy.
The 'changes' are bland, characterless new buildings which do nothing for the town at all whilst fine buildings like the former main post office in Abingdon Street and the magnificent art deco former Red Lion / Leo's Wetherspoons pub on South Shore remain derelict.
Happy memories of Blackpool back in the late 70’s early 80’s. Last time I went with my mum and dad would have been 84 and went to the tower circus. I was a stroppy teenager and the ringmaster told me to clap my hands and I told him to f*ck off. Let’s just say my dad wasn’t impressed and I struggled to sit down for an hour or two. 😅
Was a little cleaner back then 😅 still same old dump with the locals blaming the governments when the locals do nothing 😅 alwsys was benefits town always will be 😅😅 the town should be turned into a living museum no joke that would boost that little dump over night facts
OMG. I've been inside that Tardis a few times in the past😀
Love this, absolutely love footage of Blackpool 60s/70s brings back so many fabulous childhood memories

How much this country has sadly lost its fun and principles. Blackpool still has a great vibe.

Me too was working in the summer of 1976 at pontins..having a great time there..
Goldberg's was more the 80's.
Just shows how badly the UK has rotted now, Government after Government. Neglecting a once great nation 🇬🇧
ABSOLUTELY, Its bloody awful these days😩
Sad but true.
Blame the Tory Council for Blackpools decline ,all uk seaside resorts seem to have the same problem Tories in power

Never have I wanted more to be able to climb into a photo and revisit a place. Marvellous snapshots of lovely old Blackpool.
My God! How did they let Blackpool rot? It was such a vibrant seaside city

Went every year for our annual holiday - we used to stay at the Cornhill Hotel on the South Promenade. Happy days.
I was a student then in the 70s and have a great and sweet memories in Blackpool..so much different now and then..

I had a trip on that hovercraft.
The country is now trash bring me back to those days

DEFINITELY !!!👍👍👍

I went as a school boy in 1969, never been back and won’t be going now but I can see that it was omce vibrant.
Pleasure beach was much better back then, more variety, especially for families. And free to walk around as well !
So sad to watch this. I remember Blackpool when it was a busy bustling town, with happy memories. Look at it in 2024, hardly anybody on the beaches in Summer. It has become a shithole. Last time I was there, even the donkeys had left !
I've always loved Blackpool, but it was much better then.
"Take me Back There....17yr, Better Times by Far
Great compilation...brought back lots of childhood memories 😁 Just a teeny point, though...the last couple of shots are from Lytham, not St Annes.
Is it Wharton Street?
@annoldham3018 From what I remember when I watched the vid, I think it's Warton Street and Clifton Street
Fantastic times

The year I was born ❤😸
Hope to see Blackpool in the 1990s
The photo of Food Giant (at 2:20) at the junction of Talbot Rd and Dickson Rd was taken in the early 1990s.

It's a shit hole now! 😭
Like all seaside towns in the uk ,its all over .
When you see stalls on the front selling candy dildo’s for the stag and hen crowd who leave puke all over the place you know it’s lost
❤❤
Dubai is the new Blackpool got a big tower plenty of sun and sand and full of criminals 😂
