Shimano Curado DC vs Shimano SLX DC

- Shimano is making things tough on us! The Curado DC won best baitcaster at the 2018 iCast. The SLX DC won best of baitcaster at the 2019 icast. Both of these baitcasting reels will help you send your bait way downrange!
I put the same line on each of these reels, I mount them on the same rod and they both throw the same 1/2oz weight! Both of these reels have the same i-DC4 digital casting control chip.

Dude, I bought the Curado DC yesterday. It’s NICE!!!
Got the SLX today. Man I can launch that thing with no thumb hold. A good 30-40 yard casts. Worth the money.
Good to know! I’m buying one today for Black Friday!
@@SteezArtz on tackle warehouse?
What setting of brakes is it on?
Thank you for the information. I just picked up a new SLX DC mated to their SLX MXF rod. Loving it!
I gotta go with the SLX DC. I just started using a baitcaster this summer and 10 yards casting difference isn’t going to be an issue this year for sure
Just bought curado last week. So satisfying!
Awesome video man just watched it both those reels will sail one 👍
I have two slx DC's one in a low and one in higher gear and one curado DC in the 7.2 and i love them all thay are AWESOME.
Thank you Bro!!! This was a good video!
Well done & informative. Thank you.
Nice job! I still have my original Calcutta DC from many years ago when Shimano first introduced DC technology. It’s awesome! I have despooled it on a couple occasions. I may have to add the Curado DC to my arsenal though. Thanks to Shimano making it so affordable now I’m not going to be so special when I go fishing with the guys now!
I've got an original Calcutta DC and the thing sure can cast. But these new DCs are rubbish. The spools weigh 21 grams. 50 freaking percent heavier. And as a result they are rubbish for light lures that you can cast with other reels.
Thanks for the comparison! I will likely try one of these this Xmas, but I'm going to have a hard time turning away from my Lews reels.
You won't regret it
I have to be honest with you. When I first started watching your video I said to myself that I could go out and get any one of my bait casters and cast it as long as you were. After seeing what you did with the first cast that really got my attention. I normally only use daiwa, I'm definitely going to pick one of these up. I always thought that the big selling point on these reels is no backlash. I thought to myself that after using baitcasters for over 30 years I did not need anyting to help me cast better. After seeing this video I now see that that's not the only plus. I liked watching you do this in an open field. When I was a younger man and first started off with bait casters I practice for a very long time before I took it with me. After a few bird's nest I would always put it back and grab another one from the locker and would finish the day using a spincast. So finally one weekend I decided to leave all other rods at home. That way I either had to learn how to use a baitcaster or just not catch any fish and go out for a boat ride. After two weekends I finally got better. Now when I make a cast I do not even realize where my thumb is.
I really enjoyed your video I already hit the like and subscribe. Look forward to watching more of your videos.
I would say that the Curado DC is the dream but the SLX DC is the reality.
Slx dc is actually pretty much exactly the same other than micro module gears on the curado
@Ralph Anderson makes it reel slightly smoother
Its more then that, micro modulus is where Shimano was able to increase the surface area that is coming together between drive gear and pinion gear. By doing what they did it has increased the strength of the internals of the reel.
I have teh same set up with you, G loomis rod plus shimano reel. They are awesome
I just got me the curado dc with a st croix rod to cast with can’t wait to try it out this weekend
Great review I need to save up for a great combo for my overall fishing I def will look into one of these and buy a good rod to pair up with it.
Look into the ALX rods. They are awesome. I have all my reels on ALX Ikos series rods. They are very well balanced with my shimano reels. Legit
Dobyns are also great rods
i’ve been looking for shimano reels and this helped a lot
Glad to hear I was able to help you!
I love that you did it on land for accurate measurements.
I’ve not noticed a huge difference between casting distance between the two honestly, but the one thing that is noticeably different is how much smoother the curado dc is when retrieving your lure. The micro modulas gearing is what makes the curado dc superior to the slx dc in my opinion. I have both and really like both, but moving forward I’ll spend the extra money and buy the curado
You are correct
I have curado k’s and he bad thing is the micro module gears smoothness doesn’t last that long, but I fish 300 days a year so that could be it
@@haydencrosthwaite4159 ouch.. I have 5 curado DC 150s... hope you are wrong..
@@richardj6593 smaller geared teeth will wear faster, especially for the larger species of fish.
It’s about contact surface more then anything. There are more teeth engaging with the micro modulus gearing in the Curado. So the pressure is spread out across a larger area. There by making them stronger then just a few teeth meshing together.
WOW! First cast was 65 yards! That’s a Decently decent throw for an 11 foot surf rod with a 3oz weight let alone a 7ft bait casting rod with small reel with a much smaller lure.
Got the SLX DC for my birthday. You might have two more bearings in the curado than the slx. But is it worth spending 60 more dollars just for 2 more bearings. I also have the regular slx and I love it. And for just a 100 dollars. You can’t beat that. Now for 190 dollars for a dc reels is just amazing. That is why it was voted for best reel at the 2019 icast. It was just unbelievable to find a digital chip system reel for less than 200 dollars.
Found your video late but i loved it and since i bought a super st Croix combo with the SLX DC on it i was realy curius to hear about it. Its a left handel but im a natrual righthandler. I will learn to use both of my hands and using my left hand its not so akward for me. Good also to not gain tear on your body. Thx again for a good video. Greetings from Stockholm Sweden in wartimes🥺
Only one way to solve this... Get em both!
Great video definitely getting one of them reels
Jason Fleck those
My slx dc should be in tomorrow. Cant wait to line it up and send a 1/2 oz spook into orbit.
Wow. Thanks for this man. You done good
Thanks
Curado DC is amazing!
Just as I expected. Glad I got the Curado DC and didn't wait. Hey what size weight were you throwing? (maybe I missed that part)
1/2oz
Ordered SLX DC 8:2:1 yesterday & a dobyns 734 to throw it on
Just ordered the SLX 150HG
Just ordered the SLX DC XG. I can't wait for it to get here got rush shipping. I'm going to visit my wifes family in Ohio this weekend and am gonna try it out on the Scioto River while I'm there. Hopefully I can get a few Saugeye since we don't have them where I live.
Good luck!
Very nice study. Wind probably didn't affect much. I have both the Curado H and the Curado K, like both, K is better. Would love to upgrade to the DC, but I can't justify it. Maybe s Christmas present!
I would have to go with the SLX DC is more of my price range even though I'm an avid fisherman I get out more than three or four times a month it's more like everyday even though I do like the Corrado DC thank you for your video it was very helpful.
Gotta love that Curado
Awesome video! You just sold me on the curado dc! Being a bank fisherman the distance you get with the curado dc is very important to me. I am not too familiar with baitcasters but I feel this may be a game changer for me
I have purchased both Curado DC and JDM Scorpion DC used each for couple of days , and I was disappointed in the casting distance, I can case farther with Curado K and casitas , but I will be picking up slx DC , because you really don't need to mess with the brakes, you just set it and forget it
What I can tell you is that the DC will help you a bunch if you are new to bait casters. I feel it will make the learning process easier. But with that said the DC is hard to dial in the settings on. I too have both the DC and the K200 series and the K took me about 15 minutes to dial in. I casted the K a lot further until I got the DC dialed in. The DC took me 2 weeks of fishing and tweaking the settings to get it dialed in. Now the DC casts further with half the weight of whatever I am fishing with.
Just bought one- you’re right- thanks- thought I made a mistake
Great work...👍
Great comparison
Which is more accurate predicable and smoother. Guess I’ll find out. I already have a Japanese slx dc but I already know I’m getting a curado
I definitely get the Curado DC
I got the slx dc 150hg love it
Thanks for doing the video. I have the Curado DC but considering the SLX DC; hence my reason for watching. I’m wondering if you read the directions, though? Because you were using braid but on setting 3, which is the flouocarbon setting. #2 is the setting for braid. Perhaps you would’ve gotten even more distance & not had the backlashes. 🤔
I just ordered a curado dc so stoked to finally learn to use a baitcaster. What do you guys recommend for a decent rod for 140 or less thanks for any help. Great video brother
Green Googan rod
i have both of these reels. i will say you will not notice much of a difference. not much of a distance difference, they are almost equally smooth (curado is a little more smooth) they are both extraordinary reels that i really recommend. it’s just preference
the amount of oil on the spool bearings can make or brake it.
I've owned both and the SLX DC far outperformed the Curado DC. Not sure why but I fought the Curado nonstop. Quality issue maybe? The SLX worked perfect from the first cast on.
Wow this casts so far and effortless
Awesome video. What is the rod you use?
From looking at the conditions according to the cloud cover you should be fishing.🙂
Why not adjust the tension knobs?
Solid exercise👍
I’ve had both the curado feels so much more durable like it more than the Slx at the moment
Justin how do these reels work throwing a big willow leaf spinner bait in to a stiff wind. I feel like this situation is a perfect test for a DC reel.
My time with that or similar situations have been very positive.
@Tim yeah I only use war Eagle spinner baits but they have big blades that can flutter making casting in to the wind ready tuff.
With the slx and the curado, you’d probably have to use the 4th brake setting. They aren’t quite as forgiving as some of the more expensive dc reels. That doesn’t mean they’re bad at all....I definitely like mine a lot. It’s just that their dc braking isn’t quite as refined as, say, the metanium dc’s braking.
awesome sound when cast, i ordered Curado dc + Shimano zodias rod 6,6
What kind of rod were you using name brand, height and is it a medium heavy
How do you get the best casting distance with it set on 3. That makes no sense.
Seems like the curado is just much better tuned. They claim these are the same DC units and they probably are... But when they go to program the technology into the ICs and microchips they definitely tune the curado better.
I just got the curado DC could you recommend me what pound fluorocarbon to use. I fish crank baits and Texas rigs
For open water, 12 pound fc sniper. If your by cover, 14-16 pound fc sniper.
Edit: thanks for the ❤️ JC
You must not have the tension knob adjusted correctly, I never backlash or need to thumb
I have 2 of both... not much difference at all in these two, but I've also polished the gears and upgraded all the bearings with spool speed in all of them... If I had to buy them all over again, I'd get the SLX DC reels. The curado isn't worth the extra $60....but i'm also not mad that I bought the curado dc.
RSLewis I have the Curado DC 150 what can of bearings you got in yours
@@eugenejohnson8635 spool speed. I mentioned it in my post.
How did you polished the gears?
What’s a good rod to go with the curado? Mine is the 8 gear ratio
The Curado rods are a great choice for matching up up to there reel. Most of my casting rods are Curado rods
If me..then i have to go with curado dc..not because it cast further..but because it has a nice colour..lol..
What type of line was on the 2 Reels? Since the 2 and 3 setting are for specific line types it should have been flouro on 3.
bpkrieg think he’s using braid on both. And setting 2 is for braid.
solaydbak ah ok, i got confused about the setup that was used because he mentioned that he got the most distance on S3.
When I use S3 with braid, a birdsnest from hell will surely follow ;)
bpkrieg same here. Put that setting on 2 and line few off the reel.
What rod were you using? What all purpose rod do you recommend for the curado?
In this video it was a G-Loomis E6X 6’8” rod I say the model number in this video I believe.ua-cam.com/video/3xEST_SnMbs/v-deo.html
For all around general purpose for bass fishing, you cannot go wrong with a 6ft 10inch to 7 foot med heavy fast action rod.
I got the slx dc 8. 2.1 and I paired it with my Fenwick HMX 7foot med heavy rod it is sweet
sounds like a nice setup man
@@JCDropshot yeah I just got the reel yesterday and today is the 1st day using it and I'm casting on the 1st setting with no backlash, using braid
what rod do you recommend with a dc reel, and liked and subscribed with post notifications on
I am a big fan of the Curado rods personally
@@JCDropshot ok thank you very much
You are awesome
Aos brazucas curado se saiu melhor. Porém tenho uma Scorpion e do nada o sistema eletrônico parou, se eu fosse comprar outra Shimano iria preferir o sistema antigo
Love my curado dc,.. but I always have a spinning setup with me just in case.
what mode curado dc using for long cast??
4 vs 6 bearings doesn’t have anything to do with it casting further. Heck some reels like lews with high bearing counts have 4 of the bearings in the handle knobs lol. The only bearings that deal with casting distance are the spool bearings.
The Curado has one more bearing supporting the spool then the SLX so in this case it does affect things.
But yes you are correct some companies put bearing in places that don’t add performance benefits just to sell reels.
Hi there! What is the maximum jig weight allowed for use with them? I would be grateful for your attention))
The heaviest I have thrown on it is 1.5oz
@@JCDropshot 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 Thanks!
I used a SLX DC all last year, going out multiple times a week, it's a great reel for the price point. I looked at the Curado, but the extra casting distance wasn't a real factor for me. I fish from a kayak and cast seated either sidearm or backhanded since all my gear is behind me, I wouldn't get the most out of it anyways. The biggest selling point for me for either of these is the reduction in risk of backlash, I can cast a non-DC reel just fine, but not having spool thumb at the end of a tournament, or a long day on the water is always nice.
What kind of line were you using and what test were you using
30lb power pro MaxCuatro
do you recommend me getting the slx dc if i’m already good with a baitcaster or should i get something the same price without the dc
That is totally up to you man the Curado K is solid I have a review on it also here on the channel
Shimano Curado K Baitcasting Reel Review
ua-cam.com/video/xgbmaXf8teo/v-deo.html
Consider the SLX XT. more precise adjustability for not a lot of money.
The Curado DC is hands down way better. I've used one in the past and I have a buddy who fishes from a Kayak and uses an SLX DC but I prefer the Curado DC. I'm getting one in a week or so and I'm going to slap it on my 7'4" Medium power rod. Going to be using some 35lbs braided line.
I hate to say it man but it's not "way better" .... if that was the case then the curado would've won the 2019 icast award and not the slx lol..... don't be fooled by price, sometimes the price isn't always the deciding factor. You're getting a DC reel for under $200... price can't be beat
@@joshs3905only reason it won is because its Affordable, not many people want to buy a 260-280 dollar reel
Just got the slx dc and haven’t bought a rod for it yet any rods under $200 you would recommend
The new shimano Curado rods will change your life in a good way!
I love SHIMANO
In Japan haven't sold SLX DC yet
So I really want it in this video
How do the Japan’s rod ?
I want to hear the evaluation in America
Shimano is flat out the best along with Toyota Tundras, Yamaha outboards and Megabass jerkbaits. 👊
i love my slx dc forever.
Which do you recommend that produces the least amount of backlash??
When they are set right they are both basically backlash free.
As far as spending money goes the SLX is a bargain the Curado if money is no object so for me the SLXdc xg
This must be at st Clair metro park. Right next to selfridge
Is the curado DC you used in the vid the HG,XG or the PG
Both in this video are HGs
@@JCDropshot thanks man I love your vids
Thanks for watching this one.
I just bought curado dc yesterday and my mind stop me think to buy any BC anymore
What lb line????
What line were you throwing on both reels???
Power pro 30lb
How via is the weight? 2lbs?
You should do curado dc vs slx dc vs scorpion dc vs metanium dc
If you send me those last two I will 😁🤓
Bradley Simpson you should spend the $700+ to buy those 4 reels and send them to him.
Great review. I have a Curodo DC 151HG (and other non-Shimano) but I don't get out much because I have to work. I would argue that BECAUSE I don't get out much I like to have very adequate gear so that when I DO get out it is with very enjoyable and "nice" equipment. You didn't mention that the micro-gearing on the Curado is butter smooth and a delight to use. We only get so much time on Earth. Make it count.
I covered that in my original review on the reel
I will definitely check it out. The Interweb is a big place and it takes awhile to watch and see it all.
StumpkillerCP only one channel you Ned to watch 🤪lol
For reels and rods . . . maybe. But I have to keep up on cats playing piano and ancient alien landing sights as well. Keep up the good work. ;-)
I really wanted to use one of these for froggin. That 150 size with 65lb braid seems like a big problem
I have used them both for it this summer didn’t have any issues.
@@JCDropshot how about 2-4gram soft frog? will curado handle it,?
I use the 8.2:1 gear ration and what ever handle that model comes with. None of my frogs are that light
@@JCDropshot in my country there is snakehead species that won't eat 5gram up softfrog. so what reel u recommend for light game. is mgl can cast light lure easily? i don't rlly want bfs reel btw. cz my game is light to mediumlight
Brurjorecreh the Curado dc can do it. We don’t have as many choice as you do from that part of the world. The scorpion DC should also be able to do it. Really any of the DCs should be able to handle it.
Not knocking the your science but I bought 3 slx's about 4 weeks apart from the same retailer all unopened and all three are different in smoothness, and casting distance. One of em I wouldn't take 200 dollars for it. Curuios how the results would turn out if someone had say 5 of each and used the best one of each. Just a thought. Keep up the great videos!!!!
DC's in my price range!!!! Cant wait to put one on a dobyns 805cb with a dd22 or 10xd tied on.
