Always love your content 1Rod and glad to see you back on the water! About 18 months ago my father and fishing partner of 25+ years was diagnosed with a very serious type of blood cancer. His treatment took about 6 weeks in the hospital with quite the recovery time afterwards. Just prior to him going in I bought him an Antares and made him promise to take me fishing again when he was feeling better and in recovery. Today I'm blessed to say he is in remission, we just took 3rd in a local team tournament, and his sentiments about the Antares were the same as yours: "perfection", I couldn't agree more! I know its just a reel, but seeing him on the water again makes it feel like a little bit more.
I’m so so so glad that your father survived my grandfather died of single cell leukemia and died a week later. That was in March. Granted he was guaranteed to die and didn’t want to delay the inevitable so he didn’t have any treatment. I’m so happy someone survived that horrible disease and I hope your dad lives a long and prosperous life.
That’s an amazing story and I’m glad that you cherish your dad. Tight lines!

That is Definately a tough place to catchem.It used to be a great place to catch a bunch when the grass was thick.Now they spray something every year to kill off the grass and it has hurt the Bass Population imo.Would have been better to just dredge some spots instead of spraying and killing every last bit of grass in entire lake.

If you put 15-20lb Varivas or Famell braid it would be even smoother. And i believe you can go just a bit thinner with the because they are stronger than Sufix.
Power pro super slick v2 is by far the best braid you can buy

That’s funny about the bass that got you addicted to fishing cuz at same age I landed what is still my pb at 26” 8lbs 10oz and got that guy mounted on my wall and till today never got anything close to it which keeps me trying but I’m still as into the fishing as you are now so glad to see I’m not the only lunatic about fishing

i've had my SLX DC for about 2 years now. one of the best reels ever. i fish on the west so some of these species may not sound familiar, but i've hooked calico bass, sand bass, bay bass, a plethora of freshwater species, barracuda, yellowtail, and even bluefin tuna with that reel. you may not believe me, but, i've done it all with that reel.
This is my first season with that exact reel, and it is my first bait casting reel. Freakin' love it. Almost lost the plate cover on day one because I hit the lock switch with my thumb some how. Luckily, it only went a few feet away, but I was in panic mode. After about 2 months of use now, not a single problem. Lookin at the Curado DC next.

The thing you said about the Lambo was not wrong but it was see I can buy a civic and make it faster than the Lambo for as much as the Lambo is and make the civic produce over 1k whp while the Lambo would only have 500-900 whp

btw; i am a Shimano guy. but only for bait casting . basically because my father was. . . isnt that what we do. . lol . .
My father passed down a Metanium to me, i bought the Curado .(because it was cheaper . . hahah. . still 250bux) .
however; i was at one of those "gun raffles" , where you buy tickets then drink beer as the pull tickets out of a bucket all day. and who evers ticket they pull wins something. usually some type of gun.

well, one of my numbers was pulled, and i walked up to collect my prize, and i almost shat myself. it was a bran new Shimano Antares bait caster unopened in the box.
it is beautiful. as you can tell in this video.
i feel a little bad because this was almost 2 years ago. and I still have never used it. or took it from the box.
its just, such a cool piece of fishing history (and that price tag is wild. LMAO)

I just got mine and mine does not spin 1/8th as long as that one which is basically the reason why I ended up on UA-cam to watch videos on this thing
@1Rod1ReelFishing you can change the spool tension on the DC MD XG by turning the dial on the spool itself when you open up the side plate I like a little wiggle in my spool for the longest casting . I use it for giant swimbaits.
7.7 the slx DC is 7.4oz and I have reels that weigh under 6oz idk 🤷🏻 I feel like it’s very heavy

I have a Metanium DC and it’s cool and all but I don’t care all that much for the DC brakes. I feel like it would excel with Carolina rigs, Football Jigs, Topwaters and Jerkbaits. It’s fun to use but I honestly wish I bought a Daiwa Steez instead of it. One thing I do like about it is when I put it on my Megabass Super Destroyer it balances dead in front of the reel and when I fish wit it, it doesn’t even feel like I have a rod in my hand.
Is the reel low profile? Looks bulky, might just be the angle. I want to order one.

I learned from a hillbilly in north Idaho, you don’t go cheap when it comes to hunting and fishing equipment. It’s never a matter of how much you make, it’s about how determined you are to save for the things you want.
If you go cheap with your reel you’ll just be buying a new one every 6 months if you fish a lot anyways

What's wrong with that, A 100$ rod for what it is, is already expensive. Fishing rods are made using fiberglass or carbon fiber sheets then coated with liquid plastic resin. If you want to overpay for your stick, go for it I guess.
Have you held one in your hands? Their rods feel pretty good imo.

I got two shimano scorpion dc hg101 (left handed) with amazon blackhawk II, why? Cause I put them in by bag and go everywhere exploring. Also, have many other rods but don't get used as often.

I bought a Shimano Callisto casting reel in 2005 for R500 ( about 30 dollars) here in South Africa. I still fish with it and still love it.

They have the DC chips in lower price point models! The Shimano Curado DC around $250 and the Shimano SLX DC around $190.
@@1Rod1ReelFishing I’m assuming it helps against backlash, and the different modes change up the brakes for better casting feels in those particular situations?

@@cartert147 I have 2 awesome high-end baitcasting reels that I've been currently using at the moment..The 2020 Shimano Metanium MGL and 2020 Daiwa Zillion 10 SV TW. Both loaded with a 40lb Ø 0.20mm Seahawk SOL X8 Ply Braid line.

@@cartert147 I haven't got my Antares DC 2021 yet. The shop I ordered the reel from, still closed due to some local law restrictions because of the pandemic. Have to wait probably another month or so.
But what I experienced from my existing ones, they are simply awesome. One (Zillion 10) that has blistering retrieving speed and the other (Metanium MGL) can cast a mile..

"Hagane" literally translates to "metal". Its how Shimano differentiates between the metal, be it aluminum or magnesium, framed reels and their composite framed reels. The current Antares is a magnesium frame with an aluminum shroud over it.

I will be selling my scorpion, Slx dc 71. I’ll be getting the exact one as you. I have always dreamed about a super light finesse bait caster perfection for light tackle. You absolutely sold me on this reel. Almost like a God send for so many reasons. shimano should kick you down some view time .

My 2021 Antares just came in two weeks ago it’s been solid so far. The 2021 scorpion dc is pretty good also

my most expensive reel to date is the Curado DC haha. hardly use it but still i think its a great reel to have. was able to cast out a 10g spoon 60m which is more further than my spin setups

Honestly. My opinion is that the Antares DC is a little overrated. Dont get me wrong it is a nice reel just not enough for me in terms of bang-for-your-buck. I mean the Curado DC and Metanium DC are now available here stateside with a warranty. I would argue that both of those offer a little more go than the Antares DC. I guess if you wanted to find out how impratical and at time uncomfortable a Lambo is then I say go get yourself one. However, there are a shit ton of people who can build you a Honda Civic that can burn a Lambo for pennies on the dollar. Just saying. I actually traded mine for a couple of Nories rods and some cash and I havent looked back.
For the best bang for ur buck ur 100% right, the Antares DC is NOT the way to go…

Like the reel! I just really couldn’t ever get used to having to have a tool to adjust my spool tension.. that would be extremely annoying and I’d just end up losing it or dropping it in the water. So me personally would pass on that model.
Same I feel like it’s just such a hassle digging through ur bag trying to change it when u switch lures I think it’s very unnecessary

Well you really are not suppose to adjust it anyways. Its not necessary and really you only hurt yourself when you adjust the spool tension on the 2021 antares dc. The manual states this. It's adjusted from the factory for optimal performance. I've never once adjusted my spool tension on mine.

@@clmwrx I generally cut my line when I'm done and break gear down...
All You gotta do is wrap your braid/mono/floro on the handle side of Your drag adjustment(when it's all the way out)then tighten the star handle slightly till it bites down on the line,It'll engage the drag only slightly as well as keep the drag adjuster from getting spun more...And You'll always know where and how to get Your line ready to setup on the rod...
