World Mechanics my obd2 will get power in certain positions; at an angle or with slight pressure applied. Will not get power plugged in normally. Vehicle is a 2014 320i xdrive (F30/N20). Will I need to repair the actual port? I’m lost
4 years after your post I fixed a non working OBD port on 06 HD2500 truck. Wondered why only one of the power ports worked. Now I have two power ports that work and I have cleared a couple problems with my OBD reader. Thank you!!!!!!!!
You just saved me hours and hours of aggravation. I my case it was corrosion on the load side of the fuse so the fuse tested good using a voltmeter. When I replaced the fuse, the car started right up. Thank you!

I remember a few months ago, I was trying to get a key fob to work. Had to short out a couple deals on the OBD connection. It did spark a little. I checked the cigarette fuse. Sure enough it was bad. Replaced the fuse, worked like a champ. Many Thanks.

Thanks for this advice guys. For me and my 2009 MK7 Ford Transit, the issue wasn't the Aux or cigar lighter fuses but the interior lamp fuse (#72), labelled as battery saver/OBD II (D'oh!). As soon as I fitted a new fuse, bingo! I am SO relieved, as I thought I'd bought a non-compatible reader.

What about if the OBD port has power and grounds. It also has 60ohms of resistance (terminator resistors for communications). Yet it still will not send any data to scanners. Any idea what you think the issue is?
Awesome, and helpful Guidance/Video. You are certainly a World Mechanic! Well I do have a similar problem, and the Scanners, does light up, yet it says No Link! After 20 years, for the first time I removed a Fuse Box cover and saw an OBD fuse, not in place 7.5 amp it is the first time I even found that Fuse Panel. I believe it is for another model, and everything came as-is from Japan. 2002 Toyota Corolla 1,5 NZR-121 FE. Are the Scanners Lighting up because it has direct power, and the 7.5 amp Fuse is needed is my question? Anyway, I used at least 6 different models OBD ll, same. Thanks for sharing your Video!

@@vladimiralvarez1162 not same problem. I could not read anything on obd2 reader. I check fuse and it was missing. Check ur fuse that powers ur engine diagnostics . If u have recently disconnected ur battery and fixed ur bad cords you would have to drive your about 50 miles so ur computers can check it self internally. Allowing technician to do smog check. Hope I helped . Do u have ur own obd2 scanner?

Good vid .. Ive had a problem with my Honda CRVMk3 OBD2 socket not working with handheld scanners. There are no fuses blown and no faults anywhere. Thing is, Ive just tried it with a cheap ELM327 off ebay via bluetooth and you wont believe, it works..!! so really dont know why the handheld scanners wont connect yet they work with my Seat Ibiza
Having a problem with my Opel Astra G's obd2 port. Tried several different scanners and plug in Bluetooth adapters where you have to download an app to your android phone in which to use the scanner. No joy with any of them. It provides power to whatever device is plugged into the port, but none of the devices I've tried will communicate with the ECU on my car. Always says failed to connect. Any help regarding this issue would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks
@@Laikipian I later found out that expensive obd 2 scanners work on my 03 astra, but still no joy with my own scanners. Seems to differ from year of manufacture. My 03 astra won't comunicate with the scanner, but yet my 04 astra will work with the same cheaper scanners perfectly. They're both the same car, just a years difference. Annoying. If your car is vauxhaull, then you may need to get OP-COM

I'm trying to troubleshoot the OBD connector on a 2009 Saturn Aura. I've checked out fuses in the passenger compartment, the engine compartment, and in the trunk. All seemed okay. I also checked voltage at the pins on the connector and there were 12 volts across a few of the pins. Not sure what to think at this point. Any suggestions?

Get a Actron CP9680 to further test codes and diagnose. It does graphing, record, live, ABS, SRS, transmission tests, and MORE! It has code-connect to diagnose codes. The CP9690 is for OBDI and OBDII. It has cables for OBDI Ford, G.M., Chrysler, and 2 Toyota. It uses small aa batteries. Get a wall charger cable for a Tom Tom One GPS to review results in your home. EBAY has it. On the live test, if it says 'incomplete', that means you need to drive it some more to complete the test.
my toyota has a 7.5amp fuse for the obd. what would cause it to blow? the fuse for the interior light and cigarette lighter is separate from the obd port too.

Remove the fuse and test with a test light if it lights only on one side. It should. Test for a drain with a test light at the battery clamp and post with the cable disconnected. Yote Smoker Check the cigarette lighter if the fuse blows. It can short and cause the fuse to blow.
It's not always the fuse. Sometimes it can be due to a poor connection in the car's internal wiring.

My 2007 is in the shop with the same problem. They want to replace my BCM for $650, and they're not even sure that's the problem.
@@rd7264 Mine ended up being a bad sensor. I replaced the bad sensor and was immediately able to communicate.
