Nice canoe setup. You should try sitting in the canoe on the other side so you have more room behind you, especially with trolling motor. I have found this works great on my canoe.
Love the set up . Just did a test run in kine last n8ght and caught some red fish and black drum.. looking into setting it up like yours and do so adventures down here in the gulf 🤘🤟
I just ordered the box and motor mount my dad had an old canoe he just gave me im gonna turn into a duck boat and solo fishing rig I'm pretty stoked to give this a go I like your set up its simple and straight to the point
Love the way you used the angle iron or aluminum for the trolling motor mount. I have some sitting in the garage I'm going to use for the same thing...
Very nice set up, like your paddle mounts, going to get myself a be ach n seat too. If my plans work out maybe next year I'll get a trolling (fish catching..) motor. Thank you very much for sharing.
Yes I'm finished now and it's the only canoe of its kind in all of the state of Maryland. I have many people looking at it and want to know where I bought the beast they can't believe I have a depth finder on it too. The CGI seats really make the difference. Thank-you for your inspiration.
The only video I’ve found that mentions a difference between the small 30lb motors compared to the 40s and 50s...it was a brief mention but set my mind at ease that I will be good using the 30lber I already have. It’ll be on a small canoe also. Get the boat tomoro, can’t wait to set her up and get out there.
Ended up with a used 50lb, it does pretty good in the Sacramento...gladiator found it too, I don’t think the 30lb would do it, my 50 gotta be on max to make headway upriver
nice setup great restoration i like the seat too looks a little more sturdier than mine. had to laugh you said some trolling motors are overkill mine is only 9# thrust moves my canoe along. i have a small 14 ft fishing boat with outboard a kayak but darn if i don't love my canoe most . oh and i prefer a kayak paddle so much easier.
sailawaybob thanks for the comments. I sadly don't have this unit any longer. I'm actually on my second aluminum boat now. Just can't get enough of doing custom builds. It's getting costly lol.
Man, what a bitchin' canoe! This is exactly what I was looking for as far things I could do to my "new to me" free-be 16' canoe. Liked how you explained every aspect of each accessory like the motor & seating. Overall great video! Thanks for sharing!
thank you for the comment Im glad that the video has helped out you guys. it was hard initially figuring out how to set it up and what I needed as there isn't much detailed info out there. again thanks for the comments!
Man , youre set up ! Clean and well thought out . Hope you know these types of videos really help ! Coupla questions from a Noob . Is trolling motor well out of the way for paddling ? Even a dual kayak type paddle ? Would you consider a square stern over a regular canoe ? Like I say Im brand new and thinking of taking the plunge . I only wanna buy once cry once, so I'm trying to research the best I can . Any and all input would be appreciated . Im looking at a month long trip to Flamingo (tip of Fla.) and I'll be mostly bay fishing , so there will be wind and chop , so any help there would also be welcome .
hey, thanks for the compliments. the trolling motor is a bit in the way for paddling. but by no means does it impede you when paddling is required. I preferred this setup over square stern as I can sit straighter in the canoe where as a square stern you'd have to be turned quite a ways to operate the motor. wind does play a huge roll on a canoe. I've had situations where I've had to put the motor on full lock it in forwards and both myself and front passenger paddle.. but those were large wind gusts.. hope this helps and any more questions feel free to ask
Hey congrats on a great setup. One question, I have a small 2 step folding ladder made by COSCO (not the warehouse) that weighs about 4lbs. I haven't tried this yet but thinking of using camlock straps and placing in the middle of my canoe to use as a standup casting "handlebar" Watcha think?
I get what you mean. And it could definitely work. Perhaps I'd make some sort of base for it to distribute the weight so it's not pushing down on four small feet into the canoe bottom.
Nice! Thought transducers were supposed to be placed just at the surface? And away from motors to avoid noise? Curios since I'm working on a fishing canoe myself and skipped the fishfinder since I couldn't find a good way to install it yet.
I know im a little late lol. But was wondering, howblong does your battery last while out fishing? Been wanting to put a trolling motor on mine, but im worried it wont last long enough :/ thought of maybe hooking up a solar panel to the battery itself to keep it at a slow charge?
If I recall it was about 6-7 hours from full charge trolling all day and main source of forward movement for travel but I had a smaller deep cycle, could easily go up in size for longer duration
Thanks for the comments. I actually put it on my roof racks of my suv. Its a bit more of a challenge but I usually just leave it on all the time since I'm always fishing. And it allows me to get down to areas to launch it I wouldn't be able to maneuver a trailer into.
Great video. My question is do you feel your canoe has any advantages or disadvantages over a flat back canoe when it comes to the trolling motor? Thanks again from Ohio.
drewhon I feel with this it's more comfortable and convenient to operate the motor. as its situated more to your side. you don't have to be turned sideways or reaching behind to control it. maybe just my preference
Any recommendations where to get gunwales? I got my madriver canoe for free but the wooden gunwales are rotted. Need to replace but wanted to see if I can replace them with aluminum gunwales.
Where did you buy your aluminum motor mount that goes across your canoe, you said it came from a web site ? I'm in Quebec,,love your set up, I don't fish but i transport my two 55 lbs Standard poodle up and down a small river,,I got the same motor :) Thanks
I decided to build my own by looking on eBay after I looked on Kijiji ,,should be easy to do ,,thanks again www.wize.com/motor-mount-for-canoe/products-html?nxtg=cb00a500503-F6DF4B6638CCC27E
jeff what is your wire gauge from your minn kota to your battery i got mine to short i want to move the battery in the middle of the canoe just like your set up.
I got crappy tire wooded paddles I wanna do this to mine. I'm running a 2hp Yahama instead of electric. Be great to get the paddles out of the canoe haha
Single stage urethane automotive paint. Should still be perfect un less it has been dragged on the ground. But I haven't owned it in a few years so I couldn't tell you for certain
Do you self a favor and move that seat to the center. You'll be very thankful. If this helps, all Praise to Jesus. 😊 The Gospel of John, sooner than later, Reader.❤️
Very nice set up btw!

Awsome set up. Thanks for the video. Gonna be setting up mine the same

Great set-up
nice job, nice setup
I used many of your ideas for my 14ft Pelican and I should be dome tomorrow with her maiden voyage on Monday. Thank-you for your informative video
Kevin Reilly I'm just glad it was of use to someone! post a video when it's done!

Nice!!!!!!!!!!! I went from a 30 to a 55 lb and it made a big difference, I would recommend the bigger motor.
Sweet setup!
Great job. Thanks for sharing...
Nice setup!
Nice setup... Pretty nice looking freebee, I just missed out on one for $175 I thought was a good deal lol
Looks Great!!
Great video I subscribed

Nice video love the setup
thank you. I put lots of thought into it

What is the model number of the Minn Kota battery box and where did you buy it from?
Very nice set up ! May I ask how many amps hours is your battery ? Is that AGM ?Thanks
great setup. That seat looks inviting.
esox07 it was very comfortable!
where did you get that seat? model etc..never mind, IC Bass Pro shops
very nice. Good Job
How do you transport that with a regular car
I have the same setup😊 would you say would you take it in the ocean???
how is it when it's just you in the boat? is it hard to control with all the weight in the back, do you put some weight in the front?
Great job on the setup. Well organized.
Nice, sensible setup!
i have the same seat but I find it uncomfortable.Perhaps I'll place a foam pad to soften up the bottom part

Nope you can use them on on the trolling motor. In fact alot of higher end bow mount motors come with transducers already outfitted into the unit.
sweet!!!!
I like to set up😊
Great setup. Would like to know how you transport? Do you have a special trailer or do you just assemble/disassemble and mount on vehicle? Thanks.
Ghostlore I would assemble/disassemble every use. I generally left it on the roof of my SUV the entire fishing season.
Thanks for the quick reply. Happy Easter to you and yours :)
Ghostlore and to you as well!
this is insane very hard to find a way to mount a motor though

Thanks for the comments. I actually put it on my roof racks of my suv. Its a bit more of a challenge but I usually just leave it on all the time since I'm always fishing. And it allows me to get down to areas to launch it I wouldn't be able to maneuver a trailer into.
Nice set up but how stable is your canoe with the trolling motor on the side like you have it👍
It made no difference in the stability.
Nice setup. How do you steer your canoe with the thrilling motor?
Freddy Gaitan just turn the motor lol.
What do you do with the electronics (mainly the battery) when water gets in the boat to avoid ruining them?
I was only poured on once and the battery is in the minn Kota box, which I would assume is fairly water resistant as with the depth finder
Being mounted to the side do you feel it creates more drag or always wants to pull to one side or the other. Thanks for answering my question...
drewhon if it did I hardly notice. your always micro adjusting your course anyway
Don't forget to register your boat just like everyone else anytime you put a motor on your boat you have to register it
Not in Canada Only needs to be registered if it's powered with anything greater than 10hp
Any recommendations where to get gunwales? I got my madriver canoe for free but the wooden gunwales are rotted. Need to replace but wanted to see if I can replace them with aluminum gunwales.
AJon008 that's not something I've really looked into. You would probably have to make something
Where did you buy your aluminum motor mount that goes across your canoe, you said it came from a web site ? I'm in Quebec,,love your set up, I don't fish but i transport my two 55 lbs Standard poodle up and down a small river,,I got the same motor :) Thanks
Johny Day I found it on Kijiji, but I have seen similar setups on the bass pro website
Does it have a special name other than motor mount?
Johny Day just canoe electric motor mount
Merci Beaucoup :)

jeff what is your wire gauge from your minn kota to your battery i got mine to short i want to move the battery in the middle of the canoe just like your set up.
It was 8 gauge wire
You have a great battery powered fishing canoe! I need to incorporate your paddle mounts into mine.
Bill Roland glad you got to take something from this build to apply to yours.
I got crappy tire wooded paddles I wanna do this to mine. I'm running a 2hp Yahama instead of electric. Be great to get the paddles out of the canoe haha
Whered u get them got a link
What did you use for painting the canoe? Hows it holding up?
Single stage urethane automotive paint. Should still be perfect un less it has been dragged on the ground. But I haven't owned it in a few years so I couldn't tell you for certain
nice canoe, how sable is it? can you stand up when fishing?
I was able to stand in it to stretch the legs when needed. but wasn't exactly safe
@@jeffmajor9928 where can i find the motor mount
can you let me know where you bought those paddle clips from ??????
Arvids Silis I believe I picked them up from amazon for relatively cheap
do you have a problem with it coming up in the front? I took mine out and it looked silly as the front was out of the water
Never used mine solo so I didnt have this issue but I'd just mess around with your weight distribution. Ie move the battery towards the front more
Where did you get the canoe trolling motor mount from again??????
I got it second hand. But a quick Google search pulls up some alternative products
Nice set up, nice job! I do a lot of canoe and kayak fishing on my channel if you want to check it out sometime!
how did you wire the fish finder to the power centre?
Jamie Krause I just spliced the power wires into a cheap 12v car phone charger plug. And used the 12v outlets on the sides of the unit
How do those c-clamps hold up? Do they come unscrewed, or not?
All Things Outdoors they never came loose at any time. worked very well
Jeff Major ok thanks
Sweet set up. I don’t understand why so many guys go for the yaks. They are so heavy.
That and with the canoe you can move around a bit stretch out and stand up witch is great for people like me with back issues
How did you attach the stadium seat?
J Kay it just clips under Neath with quick release straps like on a back pack
Do you need to register the canoe if you put the motor.??
In Canada no, anything under 9.9hp does not need to be registered
@@jeffmajor9928 I'm from Nevada..that's a nice canoe..
What type seat was this and Battery box ? great Ideas here Thanks
Ron schreiber the seat is Bass pro shops brand, and the battery box is by minnkota
how much do certain cheap canoes go for
Alvertano Vasquez you'd have to look around. I got this one for free but it was in very rough shape
how do you transport your canoe with everything rigged on it?
TMH party ya dont lol. not without another person and it's heavy. that's why I have a boat now
How much does the fish finder cost
Jeff Major thank you. I'm just curious I am a 14 year old boy who loves boating and fishing would you recommend me getting a canoe
Spinning
I about died when he those leather seats are not seat those are torture device
how much the boat?
I'm sorry you'll have to elaborate a bit more
I thought that the transducer has to be pointed down.
You think correctly.
But don’t you have it pointed back
