    Nice canoe setup. You should try sitting in the canoe on the other side so you have more room behind you, especially with trolling motor. I have found this works great on my canoe.

      Yes I'm finished now and it's the only canoe of its kind in all of the state of Maryland. I have many people looking at it and want to know where I bought the beast they can't believe I have a depth finder on it too. The CGI seats really make the difference. Thank-you for your inspiration.

    The only video I’ve found that mentions a difference between the small 30lb motors compared to the 40s and 50s...it was a brief mention but set my mind at ease that I will be good using the 30lber I already have. It’ll be on a small canoe also. Get the boat tomoro, can’t wait to set her up and get out there.

    • @TheFrogfeeder
      @TheFrogfeeder 4 роки тому

      Ended up with a used 50lb, it does pretty good in the Sacramento...gladiator found it too, I don’t think the 30lb would do it, my 50 gotta be on max to make headway upriver

    nice setup great restoration i like the seat too looks a little more sturdier than mine. had to laugh you said some trolling motors are overkill mine is only 9# thrust moves my canoe along. i have a small 14 ft fishing boat with outboard a kayak but darn if i don't love my canoe most . oh and i prefer a kayak paddle so much easier.

    Man , youre set up ! Clean and well thought out . Hope you know these types of videos really help !
    Coupla questions from a Noob . Is trolling motor well out of the way for paddling ? Even a dual kayak type paddle ? Would you consider a square stern over a regular canoe ? Like I say Im brand new and thinking of taking the plunge . I only wanna buy once cry once, so I'm trying to research the best I can . Any and all input would be appreciated . Im looking at a month long trip to Flamingo (tip of Fla.) and I'll be mostly bay fishing , so there will be wind and chop , so any help there would also be welcome .

    • @jeffmajor9928
      @jeffmajor9928  8 років тому +1

      hey, thanks for the compliments. the trolling motor is a bit in the way for paddling. but by no means does it impede you when paddling is required. I preferred this setup over square stern as I can sit straighter in the canoe where as a square stern you'd have to be turned quite a ways to operate the motor. wind does play a huge roll on a canoe. I've had situations where I've had to put the motor on full lock it in forwards and both myself and front passenger paddle.. but those were large wind gusts.. hope this helps and any more questions feel free to ask

  • @dbell9674
    @dbell9674 3 роки тому +1

    Hey congrats on a great setup. One question, I have a small 2 step folding ladder made by COSCO (not the warehouse) that weighs about 4lbs. I haven't tried this yet but thinking of using camlock straps and placing in the middle of my canoe to use as a standup casting "handlebar" Watcha think?

    • @jeffmajor9928
      @jeffmajor9928  3 роки тому

      I get what you mean. And it could definitely work. Perhaps I'd make some sort of base for it to distribute the weight so it's not pushing down on four small feet into the canoe bottom.

  • @Havreringar

    Nice!
    Thought transducers were supposed to be placed just at the surface?
    And away from motors to avoid noise?
    Curios since I'm working on a fishing canoe myself and skipped the fishfinder since I couldn't find a good way to install it yet.

    • @jeffmajor9928
      @jeffmajor9928  3 роки тому

      Nope you can use them on on the trolling motor. In fact alot of higher end bow mount motors come with transducers already outfitted into the unit.

    I know im a little late lol. But was wondering, howblong does your battery last while out fishing? Been wanting to put a trolling motor on mine, but im worried it wont last long enough :/ thought of maybe hooking up a solar panel to the battery itself to keep it at a slow charge?

    • @jeffmajor9928
      @jeffmajor9928  5 років тому

      If I recall it was about 6-7 hours from full charge trolling all day and main source of forward movement for travel but I had a smaller deep cycle, could easily go up in size for longer duration

    Nice canoe, I will be putting some time in on mine here pretty soon. Do you trailer your canoe?

    • @jeffmajor9928
      @jeffmajor9928  8 років тому +1

      Thanks for the comments. I actually put it on my roof racks of my suv. Its a bit more of a challenge but I usually just leave it on all the time since I'm always fishing. And it allows me to get down to areas to launch it I wouldn't be able to maneuver a trailer into.

    • @jeffmajor9928

      I was only poured on once and the battery is in the minn Kota box, which I would assume is fairly water resistant as with the depth finder

  • @drewhon

    Great video. My question is do you feel your canoe has any advantages or disadvantages over a flat back canoe when it comes to the trolling motor? Thanks again from Ohio.

    • @jeffmajor9928
      @jeffmajor9928  7 років тому +1

      drewhon I feel with this it's more comfortable and convenient to operate the motor. as its situated more to your side. you don't have to be turned sideways or reaching behind to control it. maybe just my preference

    • @drewhon
      @drewhon 7 років тому

      Being mounted to the side do you feel it creates more drag or always wants to pull to one side or the other. Thanks for answering my question...
