Small correction, there actually has been a change to the Corvus Blackstar since the last DW index. It used to be you could transport an entire kill team in the corvus, regardless of how many models or what model size were in the unit, as the transport capacity stated "12 Infantry Models or ONE kill team". It now says that it can transport "12 kill team models" , meaning kill teams have to follow model size restrictions, so you can't put a unit with terminators / bikers into one like before. Corvus is no longer a clown car, but still pretty good.
I believe this was already updated in an FAQ previously with the Corvus in the Imperial Agents Codex, so with what mike is saying is from the Imperial Agents codex when referring to changes not from the index
@@VanguardTactics Yeah that's right, they changed it after they cut DW. I do think this is still an important change to note though, you could pull off some insane transport manoeuvres playing DW previously, a lot of DW players (like me) would have to rethink how they play the faction based on that change alone.
I miss fitting 14 gravis models in a blackstar. You could deploy the most potent Gladius fire discipline brick in the whole game into most places on the battlefield
It's so good to have my army of nearly twenty years back! I've had a Deathwatch themed army since the 5th edition codex, and the original Kill Team before that. And once they got their own codex, I was on that like a shot. But then they got taken away. But now we're back!
I play with a group of three friends. They all play Xenos armies. Orks, Necrons and Votaan. I have historically done bad against them, especially the Orks. Now... It's time to deal out some righteous retribution!! I am so excited to have Deathwatch back!!
Great to see Mike is an advocate for the Gravis Captain holding the theif of secrets. When I started playing 40k last year I learned a lot from your deathwatch index video. Now that my starting army is back I was excited to see your guys take on the refurbished index. One of the stealth buffs not mentioned in the video is that the spectrus killteam now has an ability that grants any attached leader both scout 6 and infiltrate. Now that phobos librarian can scout as well as infiltrate!

I'm sad for the proteus killteam. However, after hearing all of that and the increase in certain models we can take and the extra ap for guns and what not I have to say I'm fucking stoked. Seriously I'm really excited to get my army back on the table now!

@@dras-pv8qvmate what rules are you reading? Stratagems now cover all weapons, not just bolt weapons; plasma and melta just got better. Increased ap and damage across the board. The new kill teams are killer. 5 inceptors and 5 JP assault ints, all with pistol keyword? Deadly at range and in melee. Aggressors, eradicators and heavy ints packaged together? Tanky as. Can double up on regular captain and deathwatch captain for double cheap/free strat. Paying for a full squad helps prevent min maxing and cheese, meaning less dumb balancing tricks and easier datasheet control. This is 100% a pure ranged infantry ball detachment, with great units and can still do well in melee.

At first I didn’t really care, since I thought it was just going to be another Space Marine army to throw into the pile. But then I thought about how they really aught to be a thing, because with them, Sisters, and Grey Knights all the Ordos are represented. Although, since all three are all a thing again, they aught to just delete Imperial Agents, lol.
Wow... so... thief of secrets got a stealth buff. It used to be that he got bumped to +2s instead of +1s after killing a *CHARACTER* model. Now it's just killing a model. Throw it on a Gravis captain, put him in Indomitor, and after their first fight he's got a Strength 12 power fist and a Strength 8 Chainsword, both doing 4 damage apiece at AP 4 and 3 respectively. That's crazy.
Thanks for the feedback mate, we will try to add more, the issue is we would be repeating the same clip a lot, and we are limited with the time we have to record the cinematics, especially with the speed of this release schedule, but we will try to add more for future.
Just a note here- only the DW index units have the Mission Tactics ability. Therefore standard marine units like outriders or intercessors will not benefit from sustained and lethal hits.
I am glad they are back I am going to kind of miss the protis kill team but I am glad I will be able to field them and it seems like from what it sounds like my old list may work with some changes
My fear is they do this to placate us now, but next edition they just remove us again. I am cautiously optimistic that they see there is enough desire for deathwatch to stay an army that if they do another inquisition codex or whatever, we stay a FULL part of it, not just a lipservice ally.

Video at 9:00 says you get +2 Attacks for the Gravis Captain Extra Attacks, Extra Attacks states that they can't benefit from such Extra Attacks, how does this work out?
The Extra Attacks keyword just means that you get to attack with that melee weapon as well, as opposed to needing to choose between one or the other. Since the buff affects the weapon profile itself, I'd assume that it still benefits from Extra Attacks but the buff is only intended to affect the primary melee weapon for the instance of combat. Either that, or GW is gonna realize how disgusting some characters are going to become in melee. Perfect example is Adrax Agatone - base weapon stats: 5 attacks, 2+ WS, ST10, AP2 and flat 3 damage is already gross for anything facing him. But now he could potentially 1v1 a Knight in melee and win in a single round, if ALL named characters are eligible for Deathwatch lists

Not going to lie, i want a deathwatch army now, i always loved the concept, but i felt the model combos in each killteam didnt make sense. This new index (to me) feels like the model choices make way more sense. And the sheer number of tools you will have at your disposal seems great.

i might update this comment after watching the full video ... but honestly taking advice from someone playing in a tournament in 8th ed pretending to play a "Deathwach" army ( wich was merely a 51% Deathwatch, 49% the meta knight/stratagem abuse flavor of the time) let's say i have some reservations...
I'm honestly not surprised, Harlequins having a unique aesthetic compared to Aeldari is a blessing and curse; a blessing in that they look so different from the typical Elf look of the Eldar, but bad in that to truly support them outside of unique rules which hasn't happened since 8th edition they would need to make new kits for them which they seem completely uninterested in doing whereas with Deathwatch you can just repurpose Space Marine units instead.
Rumors is we will get an exodite kill team, so i can see Harlequins split of from the Aeldari codex with a codex a kin to the Agents codex but with Harlequins, Exodites and Corsairs.
With just watchmasters, maybe deathwatch vets and a corvus. Any space marine army can play this. Small Rant. The space marine codex should be locked to chapters. 1 battleforce or combat patrol, or even a character added to your army and your space marines can play a different army. Thats just unfair. The majority of the armies are just locked, yet with space marines is flavor of the week meta.

And the stratagems are amazing now because theyre not restricted to only bolt weapons. Ap5 meltas with 24" range means MELTA triggers right out of deepstrike
The detachment actually got nerfed which nearly nobody noticed. The mission tactics used to apply to the entire army in the original index. Now it only applies to the units that have the Mission Tactics ability, which literally is only the index units. So any unit you take from the space marine codex doesn't benefit from your detachment rule. The "Rounds" stratagems used to also be usable by 2 kill team units or 1 other unit. Now its only 1 kill team unit. So thats a significant nerf.
Does it need the bad acting interplay? You all seem pretty knowlagable and likable. The "oh no. Please tell me more *hammed up gasp* stuff is like nails down the chalk board. Info can be relayed without gurning at camera and predending its an acting workshop

You can buy the devistator box for weapons + heads. Eg: Use heavy grav guns as necron-y heavy weapons. The lore greenlits it.

Yes. The detachment rule only works on squads with "mission tactics". It's strange that everyone is happy and doesn't notice it.

About the master classes: Will they get paid / free updates when the rules change in the edition?
With all of our masterclasses once you have purchased it you get all updates to that faction for free we announce when updates have been made and you will get the new videos instead
Big thing to pay attention to is these kill teams are 10man units. You cant take 5 man. Alot of these weapons are better as well.
10 man squads does make balancing a lot easier.

Spectrus KT should be able to be taken with 5 not 10. The 10 man makes it not useable

The warscrolls and strats were tweaked to be better and less restrictive.

No its worse. The detachment rule got nerfed (used to apply to the whole army, now only the units in the index) and most stratagems got worse as well. The datasheets are good though, however unit sizes were more flexible before. At a fixed 10-man some of them are tough to afford.
