Good effort. I agree with what others have said, the font choices and overall design choices are what make the Vox vid stand out. They also use custom easings on their animations which make their transitions look smoother

You'd probably beat out 99% of people applying for video roles at Vox who just submit an application alone. If I were you, I'd connect with people that are in leadership at the video department and send them this video. And I'd even consider emailing this to them as well.
He still won't make it cause it's just not if he can edit like them or it's about if you can edit like that on your own without seing others work or copying them

the only plugin you use maybe cc starburst and puppet tool or duik (for hand thingy) although you can animate the hand with just some basic keyframe

Good work, I think having a better backround texture would go a LONG way. Both font usage and amazing texture use is what really carries the Vox style.
Also I think your film damage may be too intrusive. Just some thoughts. Amazing video regardless

you need a better background texture, smoother type on font, and the hands at the end need to overlap the red bar. Very good attempt though

Mostly just a lot of practice in DaVinci resolve. You can also watch the original clip frame by frame to see how the animations are timed (useful to set up spline curves in DaVinci resolve)

Not at all a cheap knock off, looks great tbh. I would however, give more attention to text placements, and the spacing as well as using the right fonts.

Many tutorials on DaVinci resolve and blender, also just experimenting over a few years. Spline curve animations in DaVinci resolve were especially useful
