I don't want to come across like a fanboi but your style has had an enormous impact on me, I used to learn all your stuff on an upside down strung guitar (lefty playing righties) by the ear and seeing the craft now accompanied by videos and your commentary is the unholy grail I've been yearning for so much. Words can't describe my gratitude.
I'm late to this video, Aerie Descent has always been a favourite of mine but the older version Home is my favourite BM song full stop. I'd love to see how that guitar solo was played, the tone is ice-cold, I was disappointed it disappeared in Aerie Descent.
This is so epic... Never thought of that mayhem riff that way. Also very cool so the the correct way to play aerie descent and funeral marches to the grave. Awesome!!
It's great to see you back! Love your aproach of creating riffs and using the dissonance tastefully. I was always curious which exact riffs on "De Mysteriis dom Sathanas" came from your hands. Seeing them played the way they were meant to be is a real treat. Hope you will continue this series, and show us more riffs. Cheers from Poland!
When hearing the "De Mysteriis Dom. Sathanas" slow picked notes, I immediately realised very clearly, where Deathspell Omega third album's "Si Monvmentvm Reqvires, Circvmspice" godly beauty came from. Also, they stated that the first version of monumental work was "ultimately discarded".
Bro, those riffs, together with heavy bass metronome, would make a perfect soundtrack to game like Doom (2016) You would make Mick Gordon run for his money
Doom and the early games are still inspiring! I listen to Mick Gordon now and then, good music on Doom Eternal. Quake was great also, especially the Trent Reznor soundtrack. I stole a lot of samples from Quake for the Thorns Vs. Emperor split. I hope one day I can get time and the opportunity to make music for a badass game!
Thank you Snorre for another great video! I'd love to hear about your incredible looking recording setup, maybe a bit about your guitars as well in terms of your preferences/style. Cheers!
Many thanks for your videos. You are the one who created this kind of sound and feeling. Peharps you can teach us "You that mingle may" or "Lacus de Luna" Master class
For me Thorns definitely set my path to dissonance. my dream was to do a dissonant black metal band with you sir. I can see you are busy but I know I will get my turn. All the best!
I‘ve been guessing for years how big his role in Mayhem MAY HAve been and to Me, this vid is kinda statement: Those riffs should be Snorre‘s inventions and so there’s more of them in that band than I had thought of. Ergo Blackthorn the most important BM musician of all times!? Great to get the deliverance, thx 🌳
Absolutely fantastic! i can see a Sansamp PSA in the back. I always believed that the Thorns album guitar tone was with a Sansamp (I might be wrong of course, it's just a hypothesis).
Second album of Thorns is the album that I am really waiting for. Great content btw. Could you please show how you play the main riff from "Vortex" and the "The Discipline of Earth"?
Jeg går ut ifra at alle riff-ene du viser i denne videoen er riff du har laget selv? I så fall er det grovt underkommunisert hvor mye du har bidratt til DMDS.
Thanks for sharing these cool insights! Quite some nice gear you have there, hope you enjoy the Lyra as well ;) Is there anything already released to listen to as the result of working with this gear?
Thanks! The Lyra is a really cool instrument, we already used it a lot. We used this gear on the Helvete documentary that NRK made. This is the gear I currently use for everything except tracking guitars, bass, guitar and drums.
Hi, Snorre. So glad to have you on the channel. Regarding the very similar sound between the Thorns demos (with the tremolo picked descending and ascending chords) and most of the Burzum discography (especially tracks like Ea, Lord of the Deep, Jesu Tod and Jeg Faller) I'm wondering if you and Varg ever showed each other riffs and things like that, or if you think it's a coincidence.
@@snorresschoolofdesktopsata1945 Thank you. Sorry to bother you with questions like that, but he never talks about those days anymore other than to criticize people needlessly.
@@spritefroggy Now Varg's three new books out in early 2024. First book is called "To Hell and Back Again: Part I: My Black Metal Story" - there may be a chance that he covered such topics.
Hi! I changed the originals for the Duncan Distortion ones, and I love them. Really tight and aggressive sounding and I don't have to add so much distortion.
I have put it in my list. I would first like to drop as much as I can of what I think will help others to make music and get inspired. Later I could try to go through more old songs and take requests.

Couldn’t ask for a better teacher to learn these configurations of guitar playing. From the man himself. Thanks Snorre!
Another great day of class
This is inspiring stuff.
Such a mastercraft! As always, it's amazing to see the genius himself playing his compositions. Thank you Snorre!
Great to see the 'correct' way of playing these songs directly from the source.
Elementary but powerful, that Melas Khole riff is pure essence, thank you master!
Sick. Something to practice this weekend, thank you for putting these together.

Still have the grymyrk demo tape from the old tape trading days and I'm still mesmerized by the pre mayhem mayhem riffs. Thorns will always be forever
Awesome, thank you for your contributions to this amazing style of guitar playing.
Dropped everything as soon as I got the notification!! Can never miss an upload from the legend!!

Your metronome is really interesting

It's been used for a long time for demo recordings. Now I think it's broke and I use it to hold a cheap rack together.
amazing!
Great stuff.👹
Riff me apart!
Would be nice to hear the old stuff from Stigma Diabolicum played with the technic standard and sound from now🤘
Gratitude

Noted! Vortex is pretty simple but the other one is pain! I might have to do some more riff videos eventually.
The "mysteriis Riffs" sounds better in that way

We didn't play much together but I guess the ideas for techniques and style was passed around willingly in the early days.

I need to know how to achieve that tone. I'll give you my first born, Pease...
