I am here to share some of the ideas I have in regards to creating interesting music.
Snorre's Music School Pt. 10 –Sucker Punchin'
In this video we look at the chord progressions of lame and boring music and work out a 5-step beat and a quirky melody. Maybe the melody can be developed into something more metal or maybe it can't. -We'll see...
It turned out pretty weird and it sounds pretty computer-game-ish in the end but I like it and think it's worth a try.
I am using my Eurorack rhythm section modules, the Mutant Kick and Mutant Clap and a noise Hi-Hat and for melody the MIDI-SID Commodore 64 synth. All sequenced with the "Noodlebox" from Sixty Four Pixels. -My favourite visual sequencer.

We have made a "music video" for this online collaboration song with very simple means, mostly Dev showing how the guitar and bass is played. Also we have incorporated the lyrics so you can sing along... The project path has been long and crocked but we are pretty happy with the outcome! -We will make a video later where we discuss the prosess and share what we learned along the way. Also Dev is making a proper play-through video for the song which will be released on his channel next week: ua-cam.com/users/devgohil Drums by Vegar Larsen. Guitar...
Snorre's Music School Pt. 9: School Song Recording
Переглядів 1,5 тис.6 місяців тому
In this short video we are in the process of recording drums, guitars and vocals for our school song. I guess we will name the song "Welcome To School" since it is repeated throughout the lyrics. The instruments and vocals are recorded in London, England and in various places in Trøndelag, Norway. Vegar has recorded drums in Cubase while Dev and myself have used Logic to record and edit the son...

I was addressed by Inner Turmoil who wanted help with his ambition of becoming a rock star. I have been helping out with advice on very basic things concerning song writing, use of recording gear and simple acoustics. And a tiny bit of guitar technique in the beginning. They ha...

Introduction to my guitar videos. Riffing technique and some chords we use. Welcome to Troll School! I plan to make a short series on guitar. Hopefully to inspire you to do some riffing yourselves. I'll show some old riffs and some of the techniques we use to make unearthly music and sounds on guitar. I also want to discuss how I make music and how you could make your music more unique in some ...
Now this is interesting!😮
Never heard of that noodle box sequencer but i'm defo interested to know more
Lovende yulebakst
Yeah, would be very cool to see how Dev and the drummer are adapting to those bids. Happy new year 🌲
The intro reminds me to necrolust, amazing work 🔥🤘
Snorre what gauge strings do you use on your Les Paul and what tuning do you play?
@@lp1888 I think just a standard 09-52 or 10-52 but I’m not so sure as it’s been a while since playing it or changed strings. It’t now tuned in E but on the coming album i tuned it down a half tone and probably used a thicker gauge. I’ve been using the ESP a lot lately and I got a Nebelung Riffmeister as well but sometimes I think I will need the Les Paul for certain stuff just due to it’s sound and sustain. It’s a awesome guitar but it’s heavy as ####!!
@@snorresschoolofdesktopsata1945 Yes, Les Paul Custom is quite heavy, that's why I play with SG, although it's not the same. ESP Horizon is a Beautiful guitar and I may purchase one in the future. I move in that harmony. Takker 🤘🏻
We witnessed how a musical genius like yourself can make 'Something' out of 'Nothing'. It was very pleasing to watch, and thank you for the upload. Final result had a Barbaric / Sword and Sorcery 8-bit vibe, reminding me of the game Castlevania ! Keep the videos coming, we appreciate it a lot !
Har venta læng på ein video om koss du styre med synth
Thanks for sharing, would love a tour of your gear, sweet setup!
If I get around to it I will make a video of how I have set up my system and what the different modules are for. I am still in the learning and exploration phase and I change the setup a little as I go, but the beauty of working with analogue modules is that one can always change things. So I guess I should make such a video one day even though I will develop my setup further anyway.
@@snorresschoolofdesktopsata1945 I'm enjoying all your videos, much respect!
is the Noodlebox just a straight USBC connection into the Mac / DAW?
It's a little more old school. It has standard MIDI in and MIDI out. It is a 4 channel monophonic sequencer for controlling analogue gear with Gate and CV outputs for each channel but with the MIDI output it can control digital or analogue MIDI equipment as well. I love this thing because of its very visual pattern display. It's a little quirky to work with in the beginning but the learning curve is not to steep. It's named a "serendipity sequencer" so it's main purpose is maybe to make randomised generative patterns but I find it very useful to make melodies and rhythms.
let's goooooooo
We have to down-tune the bass a lot or use the synth as a bass. If we use a bass guitar we DEFINATELY need to use the RAT distortion!! Grymyrk-style \m/
Hello Snorre. Big fan of Thorns here! Did you write the lyrics in the self-titled album or who wrote them? Greeting from Finland.
Super Tube + Turbo Distortion: Grymyrk Super Tube + AMT SS30: Trondertum
Very good teaching. Song is a 1+. Next year masterclass with Thorns 🤘
I think I've logged into the wrong Zoom classroom.... I LOVE IT
Amazing! Absolutely love the incredible talent in conjunction with not taking it way too seriously like a lot of BM scene members. Keep them coming man!! You guys are killing it!
Very Good!!!
this is a great song! there aren’t many left who can still make great black metal the right way, but you guys have done it.
Amazing!
another snorre video! 😈 patiently waiting for that new thorns!
cool af
So much Snorre in 2024, fucking hell, the year of Snorre!!! Will 2025 be the year of Thorns? 😛🤫
YES! 2025 is THE year!
Amazing news @@snorresschoolofdesktopsata1945
More please sir
I hope to have a more educational video ready soon.
You hopeless corpses!
new album please!
I love it so much!!! Glad to hear new stuff from a legendary musician such as yourself :DDDDDD Also may I go sharpen my pencil? And, I left my schoolbag at home :p
Absolutely love your music, Snorre! Gorgeous tones. Thank you for your body of work. You're an incredible inspiration.
This is the most Snorre thing ever. I never thought I'd hear a song of his with his vocals so unapologetically upfront. I want to make a song with you as well FFS 😂 I'm now officially very envious of Dev although he fully deserves this collab, truth be told 🤘
Hello,Snorre! Can you tell us the story of how you got your AMT preamplifier? What is your opinion about this device, its tone? How do you approach shaping your guitar tone with this preamp? Why exactly this, and not some other, more expensive device or fashionable plugin? Thanks in advance for your answer! Greetings from Siberia!
I am a drummer. But I think it is good to be a well rounded musician and learn other instruments. I started off as a guitar player but did not succeed. I want to try again now that I'm an adult. And I'm still deciding on whether to get an acoustic guitar to build a good foundation. I'd love to play some Ulver tunes on acoustic guitar. But either way, your videos inspire me to pick up where I left off with playing guitar. Good channel, skal!!!!
Thanks! It's nice to hear you want to pick up the guitar again. Good luck! And Skål!! :D
Awesome, i won't miss any class 😂🤘
Awesome colab! Cheers!
This is awesome, unique and authentic! I totally get Grymyrk vibes from it. Can't wait for new Thorns and Stigma project
Absoloutly amazing collaboration! Dev Gohil’s videos are amazing glad to see this meeting of legends! congratulations on a great track
I'm not a big fan of the vocals/lyrics but the instrumental kicks ass 🤘
The song is very good!!! The only thing i'm skeptical are the vocals but for the rest is very well done!!!
I have to admit we didn't spend much time on lyrics and vocals. This is on purpose as lyrics and vocals are so difficult to get right and we wanted this project to be completed as fast as possible.
@@snorresschoolofdesktopsata1945 Then it's no wonder it sounds like that. Then I just don't understand the point behind this project.
@@AbsurdReal It was to teach people how to make music
@@snorresschoolofdesktopsata1945 Norway metal scene has rich vocal history... because many sees the voice as only instrument to move metal evolution further. When looking at the Thorns legacy, well, seems everything here is logical. However, if the updated or album version will happen (if any will come out) would be really good, but this one still be remained praised as better one...
Subscribed to the channel yesterday..just in time 🤘🏻
Imponerende vocals. Man vil alltid takke for flere tracks.
Watching this with my ass on the stool
Jævlig bra! Gleder meg til å se mer.
Yeeees!!!
Man I'm waiting years for thorns album!! Cheers from Greece, we've got a lot of black metal here and we respect you!!🇬🇷🤟
Hails for bothering to wait! -New album is soon in the mix.
Awesome Snorre
recess is over you hopeless corpses 🤣
Amazing. Cheers from Greece.
Nice to see that something is happening at Thorns, although a song about school is a bit strange ;) Will we ever get to hear the Thorns demo from the 90s, which features a complete line-up?
Maybe after album nr. 2 is out we will consider retracting some of the Grymyrk tracks with full lineup. We have talked about it but not made concrete plans yet.
Good day mr. Snorre. Just curious what's your favorite kind of music outside of metal?
Mostly the sound of the washing machine and the dish washer. Sometimes some electronic music or just good songs in general. I have to admit that I don't listen much to music these days.
@@snorresschoolofdesktopsata1945 I see. Thanks for the response lol. Do you just find yourself busy these days or has your focus shifted to other interests? Also I do suppose considering some of your work you must have been into electronic/industrial/ambient music as well. Cheers
@@onnizx hehe! The sound of work being done is soothing😁 I listen to some calm electronics sometimes to counter my own musical noize. I also like rhythmical stuff and dark or weird melodic. I have worked a lot with electronics lately for my non-metal projects. Some electronics also sneaked into the new Thorns album. For the Stigma project we focus on drums, synths and nasty guitars so that should be different and hopefully interesting 🤘🏿🤘🏻
Hello, Snorre. It is inspiring to watch these videos. I like Thorns and hope you continue to make good music. Cheers!
I saw someone in another one of your posts (maybe it was this one…) mention Voivod and you said you really liked Killing Technology (great album). What do you think of Coroner? Did you ever listen to their music and if so what did you think of them?
This is amazing! Thank you for sharing.
