- Make your life easier by whipping up some char siu, or Chinese BBQ roast pork, using this amazing store-bought char siu sauce by Lee Kum Kee AND your AIR FRYER!!
** Be sure to adjust cooking time based on the size and thickness of your pork. Remove the air fryer basket after 7-8 minutes each side to test the doneness of the pork and adjust accordingly to avoid overcooking.

Looks sooo delicious🤤
Just made this tonight, it was outstanding! My wife of 17 years had tears in her eyes, she is Chinese, she said it was like her Dad used to make. This is a keeper recipe. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing! I’m so glad your wife enjoyed it!
Really ? It looks very untasteful in a way tho. Most rdy to use sauce is very weak in taste.
@@madarasenju1693 , try it ! I will tell you that I did not use the sauce she showed but made my own from hoisen sauce, honey, soy sauce, and 5 spice, only because I had this on hand. Her technique with the air fryer was spot on it was tender ,juicy and full of flavor. Not to mention quick and easy.
@@hongliu09 thx alot i will try it. :)
@@madarasenju1693 is alright, I mean is def not as flavorful as if u were to use ur own sauce recipe, but this saves time and still taste great. But if u think it doesn’t look as good as what u would find outside, then u can wipe some syrup or honey water on it after it’s done and that’s what gives it the glossy look
Yes! Finally someone using the air fryer correctly, not lining the basket with foil! You gotta let that hot air circulate for best results!
Thank you 🥰
Everything comes out perfect. So far bagel, fresh toast sticks and fish sticks. The square basket is a game changer ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxD4Qeo-HRLxMfom_PDinM_SBfes00qJsB You get so much more room than the round basket.I’ve had it for about 24 hours.Only drawback I’m having an issue with is the pulling out the basket but I know eventually I will master that as well.
I’m a hopeless char siu junkie. I make it in bulk every month and eat it all month long. It’s been my favorite pork BBQ meat since I was a little girl, and I can and do eat it for days and days. My aunt gave me an air fryer a few days ago, and the first thing I thought is ‘Can I make char siu in here???’ Based on you video, I’d say I can! Thank you for showing the air frying techniques to make it! I go the long route on making my own sauce with the hoisin sauce, five spice powder, garlic, shaoxing wine, maltose ,and I do appreciate you showing how to make too with the jarred sauce!😃😃
Char siu junkie here too 🙋🏻♀️
I also make my own sauce. I generally use pork neck rather than shoulder. Char siu pork is great finely cut and placed in a Peking duck wrapper with salad or steamed vegetables and a dash of hoisin sauce. I just used the bottled sauce last week and found it too salty for my taste. It also overpowers the taste of the pork. I think I'll stick to my recipe.
Made this yesterday and it came out great. I only marinated it for a few hours, instead of overnight. Also didn’t have enough sauce to baste it. Even with those limitations, it still came out perfectly
So glad to hear!
Perfect English and Cantonese. Lovely Cha Siu. Restaurant quality. Yummy.
Thank u! 🙏
Maggie, you are the official spokesperson for Lee Kum Kee! Love your Cantonese and your recipe. Never thought of using an air fryer to make Cha Siu. Thank you so much for your recipe. Look forward to your next recipe and video. Keep up the great work! Looks delicious!!!
Thank you!
Well paid by LEE KUM KEE i bet!
To be fair to GOURMIA for the air fryer she used, she should have mentioned its name. Just kidding!
Great recipe. Thanks, Maggie.,
Maggie, we made this and it was AMAZING! My picky kids cleaned their plates and then asked for more. Thank you.
That melts my heart! The satisfaction we get when our kids clean up their plates and ask for more! 🥰 Thank you for watching!

I tried your recipe. I marinated the pork for well over 24 hours and it was very tasty. Thank you. My neighbours also enjoyed it very much
So glad you enjoyed it!
One of my fav dishes and never knew how easy it is to make it!! Thank you for the recipe and of course thank you Lee Kum Kee 😋
Thank YOU for watching!!
My favorite with chinese bbq pork is to chop up ginger n green onion with somr oil to put ontop n sometimes i add chili or pepper to it too
It’s not a fried recipe in the first place. It’s just marinate the meat and then stick on a roasting dish and then in the oven.
I've tried a dozen cha siu marinades from scratch but find myself coming back to LKK sauce. You can't beat it for ease and simplicity. I marinate it very similar to you except I add some soy sauce and poke holes with a fork. Yours looks delicious!
Thank you! Adding soy sauce sounds like a good idea! Will have to try that.
Hi, we used this recipe over a year now, we love the char siu, a friend said add 1 tbsp hoisin sauce to 1/4 cup char siu for chicken, was great. Then tried 1tbsp oyster sauce to 1/4 cup char siu for pork and was good, I got the idea 2tsp hoisin sauce, 2tsp oyster sauce to 1/4cup char siu and made amazing pork ribs and roast. For boneless spare ribs we just use char siu lol, it's amazing what can do. Tyvm
So glad to hear! Happy new year!
I tried this recipe today and it was delicious! I prepared a lot so I made one in the air fryer, and the other one I baked in the oven. Both turned out great and very delicious! Thanks for making this video!!!
Thank you! I’m glad they turned out well!
5:52 400 F for 10 minutes each side 7:22 brush honey and bake 2 minutes for each side
I love how you did the "commercial" it was beautifully smooth. I hope to be fluent enough to sound as great!
Thank you!
I love these recipes! As a 3 time cancer survivor & stage 4 cancer survivor I love these recipes. I have been to China many times & lived in the Far East for a few years but I love how these recipes incorporate health, taste, vegetables but are easy to digest. Great channel! Glad I found it! Because of my chemo & stomach I can’t just eat anything & keep eating.
Sorry to hear and glad you recovered! Thanks and I hope you enjoy my channel 😊
Are you feeling ok? It's 2 years later.
I love the simplicity and the great flavor. My go to recipe for char SIU. I did a slight variation though. After slicing, I brush on some leftover marinade and air fry for another 2 minutes just so that there's caramelization and char in between the slices😊
Great idea! It is simple, we just had it again for dinner tonight 😂
That is a great idea especially if you really like the char....which everyone in my family goes after.
Good idea 👍! I would remind my staff to toast up sliced char siew before serving to customers. This will be the first restaurant serving hot char siew!
Love the incorporation of Cantonese in these videos! My girlfriend and I are looking forward to making this dish!
Thank you! Hope you guys enjoy it!
I love the sound of Cantonese. It’s the Chinese dialect of my childhood, so it brings back lots of memories.
I tried this recipe and it turned out AWESOME!!! Better than store-bought in Chinatown. I was shocked by how good this turned out. Simple. Pork comes out moist and just plain delicious! The honey glaze at the end is a must. The only downside to this, is the tough mess left in the airfryer... Thanks for giving us the best Char Siu recipe on UA-cam! Subscribed.
Thank you for your kind words and I am so glad you enjoyed my recipe! Yes, I hate washing the basket at the end but it is so worth it! Nothing soaking in hot water and elbow grease can’t fix!! 😋
I cook pork in the air fryer a lot. My tip is lightly brush the basket with oil. Nothing sticks and cleanup is easy.
@@initialdluvr Thanks for the advice!
@@initialdluvr Thanks for the tip! I wonder if cooking oil spray would do the trick?
@@DrFlippin it should!
Thanks for your bilingual recipe. I’m an American born Chinese and sometimes a dummy. After experimenting 3 times I finally got it perfect. Bear in mind I’m just a novice at this. I used to get my char siu at the store in San Francisco Chinatown. Now I can make my own, thanks to you. My ex used to scold our son using a similar saying “ giving birth to a char siu would have given me something good to eat.” Keep up the great work and keep the recipes coming. Steve
Thank you so much for watching and trying my method! No dummy here, we all have to start somewhere. Great username btw 😂.
Hi Maggie, on my first try making char siu I used a packaged char siu powder. Tasted like flavored food coloring. Not very tasty. I had a theory. Maybe to get the red color to make it look like the store’s char siu it can dabbed after the your method is done either before or after the honey. Real honey is better than the honey syrup sold at the oriental supermarket.
I subscribed and can’t wait to try your egg custard tart recipe. I bet it will be just as good as the ones they sell at Golden gate bakery in San Francisco. I’ll let you know if it is. Steve
Another air fryer recipe that I’ll definitely try

Why? It’s not a fried dish in the first place. Why do an oven recipe in an air fryer?
Cantonese Char Siu is one of life's best simple gourmand pleasures! I've used this brand of sauce. Very good results for saving time from making the marinade from scratch. Everyone who loves roast pork should try to make this! Trust me!
Thank you!
OMG this turned out awesome... I've been ordering Cha Shu (as Japanese & Hawaiians call it) for 30 years in restaurants but never knew how to make it. Its so friggin easy and tastes just as good as the restaurants... I make a sauce of hot mustard and soy sauce for dipping and have it w/ scrambled eggs & rice; its my favorite breakfast of all time.... thank you thank you so much..
So glad to hear 🤗
Make This today, used air fryer parchment sheet after each 2 piece "order: paper gets very oil soaked from pork, worried about catching fire.used honey for char, add minutes for more. Mine looks like I made it on a charcoal grill. Wife says I tastes like from a restaurant.btw 8 oz leekumkee $4 @Ralph's
Don't need much still have 1/2
Really looking forward to trying this! All I've done is wings in my air fryer and I haven't tried anything else but this looks so straightforward and easy to do. Yum!!
What I really appreciate is that you are using a bottled sauce and I don't have to go buy the individual ingredients.
Thank you!

Thank you for this idea. I did a fast marinade and saved the other half of pork to marinade overnight. I tried air fryer and broiler since my air fryer is so small. Both finished at the same time, both yummy! Thanks again!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it
This easy and excellent. I forgot and marinated the meat for 4 days (2"x2" bone in pork shoulder). In my foodie ninja the setting I used was 20 min on air fryer mode 400 Fahrenheit. I let the meat sit and cook with residual heat till warm for another 20 min. The meat came out juicy, tender and delicious!
I love how you share your recipe and a bit of your culture at the same time. Now Im motivated enough to make Char siu. lol. Thanks!
Thank you for your kind words! I love sharing my culture 😊
Thank you for your channel! I grew up in the NYC area and would visit my grandparents every week on Mott Street while my mom ran around Chinatown picking up groceries for the week. My mom would always pick up Char Siu from Big Wong. 6 years ago our family moved to Cary, NC and it is so hard to find authentic Cantonese food. I love your channel and hearing you speak Cantonese. I've made your taro tapioca dessert and my family loved it! I am attempting to make your Char Siu right now. Hopefully, it turns out ok. 🤞🏻keep the videos coming! Loved how you sang the Lee Kim Kee song, it brought back memories.
Thanks for your sweet message! I grew up in NYC also and am familiar with Mott St and Big Wong! I miss Chinatown and their food dearly, now that I have moved to the suburbs. I’m so glad the tapioca turned out well and hope you enjoyed the char siu. I will keep the videos coming and thank you so much for your support! Happy new year!

Awesome high quality video. I haven't bought pork for almost four years but I'll make an exception after watching this.
Hey Ms. Maggie, this is got to be the easiest Char Siu recipe I have ever seen...I don't have an air-fryer but have smoked them on my smoker outside and I assemble all my ingredients, next time I head to a Chinese market, I will look for this brand in a jar, and see how it goes...thank you for this, keep up the great videos...I know it's not easy to do. appreciation from Montreal, CDN.
Thanks so much!! I bet smoking them on your smoker tastes even more marvelous! Lots of love to Montreal, cant wait to travel there again ❤️

Thanks for the support Phil!!
Thanks for the video Rack of Lam! As a purist, I think you should make Char Siu with the traditional ingredients and see how that works in an Air Fryer. I think there would be a lot of dripping.
Thanks for the recipe. It worked well, but as the recipe stated, be sure to check at 7-8 minutes. I forgot to check and got more black on the edges than I wanted. Next time, I'll go 7-8 minutes and it'll be perfect. Also, add a little salt to the honey before you brush it on. It'll add another layer of flavor.
Thank you! 🙏
