This is just lovely! I'm not sure I've ever heard Richard Barbieri speak before! Steve playing guitar left-handed is a treat and he has a lovely voice - and he does that thing with his eyebrow exactly as his brother does. 'Catch the Fall' is a great album that I wish I'd heard much sooner. I wasn't even aware of it until this year, but I love it. It's RB and SJ - what's not to love?!
Richard did an interview with someone on UA-cam about a year ago. Can't remember the name of the person doing the interview, but it shouldn't be difficult to find on UA-cam.
I don't know if embarrassed so much as they look kinda shy. They had just started, & now they were a duo. Steve has said that he prefers being behind the scenes, & so I think it was not easy for him or Rich to have to do so much talking, when normally it would be all the guys together or David. I think this experience was a bit nerve-wracking for them, but as soon as they started performing, all those years in Japan kicked in, & they looked as comfortable as in their Japan days.
Wow, I have never heard of The Dolphin Brothers. I just saw them whilst watching a Japan documentary. Go figure, this is so GREAT! STEVE JANSEN IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BEAUTIFUL x He does have a very Sylvian tone in his voice INDEED! They are brothers after all.
This was such a good album but it was constantly compared to Steve's brothers work and never given the credit it deserved. I never understood why Steve rarely sings on his work, I think his voice is good. All the JBK work was worth listening to also.
I can’t help wondering if it’s emulation or genetics. Steve doesn’t come across as someone who would mimic his brother but rather as someone who would want to forge his own creative path.
Amazing! Many thanks for uploading this. I’ve never seen this although I used to watch Funky Tomato almost every week when I was a student. I feel a bit strange that I am seeing this after over 30 years on my smartphone... I was, and still am, so much in love with Steve...
Unfortunately, he would never do that. I read in an interview that he didn't keep singing because he didn't think his voice was that great (I completely disagree), & I remember that he said that as kid he left the guitar for the drums because it was too hard playing guitar as a left-hander (probably since things are geared towards right-handers). And you can tell he (& Richard) were not comfortable during the interview part of the show (Richard looking down, while poor Steve starts playing with his hands or practices guitar (I'm guessing it had been a while since he played, or maybe he was just really nervous since he's center-stage, though since it's a duo, Rich is much more prominent. Once they started though, BAM! Those years of playing in Japan kicked in & got them through. Btw, Steve says he likes being more behind-the-scenes than center-stage. For as much as David hated being onstage & didn't enjoy the Japan years, he sure had a talent for being the front man. It's cool how some people can just pull it off when they're shy types. They go onstage and become a completely different person. And I'm sure you're aware of how many times Steve has worked with David (mainly on David's projects), & how many times he's toured w/David.
So fun to see, thanks for posting. Blast of the past. Okay, I have to admit I saw them all in person. In different staged projects. So wonderful. Steve does sound so much like his brother as many know.
steve is the most attractive person on the planet
Amen to that
He is dreamy.
After his brother David Sylvian :)
He even has a hint of Elvis facially.
@@HerAeolianHarp I agree.
👱♀️❤
multitalented Steve Jansen can even play guitar and sing too. And of course, he's got the most gorgeous face.
He sounds like his brother at times
And a super tight and on time drummer
I🎉❤JAPAN

Everybody talks about David Sylvian but his brother had so much to say say too. Double genetic blessing

Oh bless them, they looked so soooooo embarrassed during the interview.

I been enjoying this for the last two years. It’s one of my favorite discoveries. Thank you for this. Love seeing that Steve is also a lefty!
So glad to find this gem online.
Richard barberi is amazing as well and is now in progressive rock band porcupine tree
Welcome back Moodyb! Jansen sounds soft spoken like his brother. I like Barbieri/Jansen collaborations especially Mission!
Dana Vixen Cheers!
Plays guitar left handed...drums right, ambidextrous much. 😎

A lot of rolls of Bacofoil died to make this set.
He sounds so much like his brother

Oh my god! Finally! Blessed thank you.
Kris Music You're welcome! :-)
Thanks a lot Cris for uploading this gem! We've all waited to see the full video! Now someone finally did it :)
Nickrhodes littledarling You're very welcome! :-)
Did they play any live shows?
Steve should tour singing David's songs, since David won't anymore. He sounds just like him.
Unfortunately, he would never do that. @@m.pilarojedaferenus2061 I'm amazed! I didn't expect Steve to sound almost identical to David.

Catch the fall のCD💿持ってます!
face to face が大好きです♥
良い声してますよね~🎵✨✨
Anyone notice how Nik Rhodes from Duran has adopted so many of Richards manerisms?
He was/is a big fan.
I noticed that just now when watching him play the keyboards
Ironic because it's well known that his visual style (especially his hair in the early days) was inspired by Sylvian.
Is it rEAlll
Interesting TV show.
Amazing, how did you retrieve this footage?
dom dom I was able to acquire a VHS tape recently with this footage on it...Thankfully the tape was still in fairly decent condition!
Love this, its Japan isn't it?
Nice to look at but alas is it playback like many or all performances on these kinds of shows in that era...
Not bad for cetacean siblings!
Is Steve left-handed?
Yes. Though he does play table tennis right-handed ! Check out the video to ' Stay Close ' to confirm.
@@deancurtis4376 Thank you!
He was born left-handed but taught himself to be ambidextrous because left-handedness was frowned upon at school.
left はんど
OMG he sang like his brother
Who’s playing drums then?
