Rob Zombie once said : « Every cool riff has already been written by Black Sabbath. You’re either playing it faster or slower or backwards, but they wrote it first. »
Tony Iommi is the riff MASTER. My personal favorite Iommi riff has gotta be "A National Acrobat" off Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, it's just so groovy and weighty.
I want to say that bill ward doesn’t get enough love. He’s hands down my favorite drummer of all time. He makes the iconic riffs of sabbath come to life in a way that encodes them into your brain forever.
You have got to love his style of drumming the aspects in planet caravan make it seem dreamy. But in songs like killing yourself to live his drumming makes an insane difference to make the song absolutely perfect.
He is, by far, the most important member of the band. People keep saying that is Ozzy or Iommi just because being the frontman or playing an electric guitar in the 70s was what get you the hot chicks and made you look cool. But the real deal here is Bill Ward. Just look at any black sabbath cover where the youtuber playing with a backing track to prove my point. No matter how well the guy/girl plays the guitar, it sounds like utter shit. Sounds like utter shit because there's no Bill Ward in there.
Some of these riffs only gain their true power combined with the amazing rythym section of Butler and Ward. Not that the riffs aren't brilliant on their own
Yeah I agree, Iron Man is one of the best riffs ever but it only truly gains it's gargantuan power when that rhythm section comes in the second time round.
1. Snowblind 2. Supernaut 3.Sabbath Bloody Sabbath 4. Into the void 5. Wheels of Confusion 6. Killing your self to live 7. NiB 8. Paranoid 9. War pigs 10. The Thrill of it all
The crazy thing is that you can easy make a video of "the next 20 best Sabbath riffs" that are still better than anything other bands do. Consider these: Wicked World, Warning, Faeries Wear Boots, Hand of Doom, Into the void, Lord of this World, Tomorrows Dream, St. Vitus' Dance, Cornucopia, Under the Sun, Sabbra Cadabra, Killing Yourself to Live, Supertzar, the writ, Dirty Women, Backstreet Kids, Junior's Eyes, Neon Nights, Heaven and Hell, Children of the Sea, Mob Rules, Zero the Hero, etc.
The thing about so many Sabbath tunes. And especially leads. . Is that So many are doubled.. and not doubled as in the same. Two leads that fit. . And complement each other. And harmonies in Chord run. So playing it by yourself live. Never comes out quite as good as the album...
This was simply the best Sabbath riff video I've ever seen and to be honest I have a cherry red sg myself and I'm so glad someone does the tuning right like you have it was amazing " my favorite song & riff of all time is " Sweet Leaf " you were awesome to the max in this video yet again I seen the comments I agree with some viewers saying it should include maybe into the void, Meglomania , heaven & hell etc ... Bc this is OZZY era and plus Sabbath has so many great riffs it's hard to fit in all of them unless u do a top 30# all & all it was brilliant !!!
I luv that he even had the sound of scraping the strings on the Sweet Leaf riff. I remember being 15 yrs old back in 80's debating my friend about whether or not T.I. did that intentionally. Dunno, but maybe.
You know sabbath had albums after never say die, right? Plenty of them actually not all that great but I at least expected some heaven & hell or mob rules..
I thought this would make me appreciate Iommi more but really it just makes me realize firsthand how important Geezer was, After Forever in particular sounds kind of strange without him
there is no way you thought these were metallica riffs, even though almost every metal band took some inspiration from black sabbath, metallica sounds nothing like this, its much faster and has an overall different tone and feel
I'm a big fan of Black Sabbath, the video is great! I'm thinking of buying this guitar effect, are you happy with it, does it really sound like that? Are you using standard tuning? Thanks
I don't use any of the equipment in this video anymore. I would recommend a fuzz pedal and an SG though for sure (not this one). Maybe not the Joyo pedal either.
My top 10: 1. Killing yourself to live 2. The wizard 3. The Thrill of it all 4. Wheels of confusion 5. NiB 6. Into the Void 7. Dirty Women 8. Sweet Leaf 9. Hole in the Sky 10. Symptom of the universe
How do you always nail at the tone? Amazing as always dude... Whenever I try to get this tone, I dunno man, the sound of some strings just get indistinguishable, can't tell if it's the bass, treble, or if my Vox amp just lacks the knobs to find a "balance" more easily...
I think I figured it out. The problem was the bridge pickup height, it was too high. If any of you have this issue too, just try lowering a little bit.
I Saw Sabbath in the 1980,s with Dio ,it was so load in them days .AC-DC Maiden Motorhead Priest to name a Few were so load you would be Deaf for a week, also not Forgetting Saxon

That's from the metal: a headbangers journey documentary if i remember correctly
The fact that everyone's saying "wheres this?" or "wheres that?" PROVES Sabbath has so many good riffs 😎
exactly
where is into the void bro
I was 100% ready to be like WHERE THE FUCK IS SUPERNAUT then it was right at #1 where it deserved to bed ❤️
Yup, some more of my favorite riffs, Fairies Wear Boots, Killing Yourself to Live, Hard Life to Live, and Angry Heart.
@@ChaseThePinballWizard My EXACT thought!
I'm surprised Into the Void didn't make the cut
The omission of that is glaring and inexcusable.
for real, thats my favorite iommi riff

Its literally up there in maybe top 3 Sabbath riffs of all time. Glad I scrolled down to see it was ommitted and disappointed in OP.

in N.I.B. as well
You should have made "Top 200 Black Sabbath Riffs" :-)
Honestly there is 200 riffs. But I would think 100 is good.
Tony Iommi is the riff MASTER. My personal favorite Iommi riff has gotta be "A National Acrobat" off Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, it's just so groovy and weighty.
@Leonardo Mejia I dunno about that one
If I'm not mistaken, Geezer wrote A National Acrobat main riff
@Leonardo Mejia look.. page has like 7 memorable riffs.. while iommi has some 40+
@Leonardo Mejia
Iommi has 1) more riffs (like 5 per song)
2) catchier/memorable riffs
Geezer wrote that one.
The riff to Fairies Wear Boots should’ve also been included
Yeah especially the opening
One of my favorates
Which of all of them?
lol the fact that you have to question which riff you are talking about proves that iommi is a god
@@javwav touché; I like the opening, but more so, the swung groove when they go into the verse and chorus.
I want to say that bill ward doesn’t get enough love. He’s hands down my favorite drummer of all time. He makes the iconic riffs of sabbath come to life in a way that encodes them into your brain forever.
Yes, the the trippiness, hynoptic style of Sabbath is because of Ward's genius.
not only that but he plays jazz and swing beats and makes them metal. he gets so slept on and he’s truly one of the greatest drummers.
me?

the best band of classic metal
maybe heavy metal, and literally doom metal

I see a sad lack of comments asking about Under The Sun, in my opinion the most head-banging Iommi riff
Thinking exactly the same
Under the sun is so heavy I mistook it for a Bolt Thrower riff when I first heard it
All good riffs but you didn’t put in Megalomania’s rock riff :(
Great choices as always, but I would have included SabbraCadabra for sure
Into the Void would be my personal favorite
Your choice of riffs really shows a deep appreciation for the band.
1. Snowblind
2. Supernaut
3.Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
4. Into the void
5. Wheels of Confusion
6. Killing your self to live
7. NiB
8. Paranoid
9. War pigs
10. The Thrill of it all

That main riff in Snowblind is, dare I say it, so addictive!!
Their riffs are so satisfying
Surprised that Into The Void isn’t there, but all of these riffs are top notch too.
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath 🍻
Listen brasilian Singer Vanusa, what you do ,music.
SBS and Symptom of the Universe are two of the most badass riffs ever playef

What more can you expect from Riff Master Iommi. A Dio years vid would amazing as well.
That tone sounds so good! Good job as always mate! 👍

Black Sabbath have a lot of great melodies in their songs like the ending melody of Iron Man, War Pigs. Not sure why people don’t consider them riffs.
The thing about so many Sabbath tunes. And especially leads. . Is that So many are doubled.. and not doubled as in the same. Two leads that fit. . And complement each other. And harmonies in Chord run.
So playing it by yourself live. Never comes out quite as good as the album...
Specifically with After Forever you notice exactly how much Geezer contributes when you only hear yourself play the guitar
Electric funeral riff is a banger, nice simple and sounds good
I am in love with that guitar. It's very affordable, and the tone you're able to get out of it is exceptional!
