Flap Sander Fail

- I tried out an idea I had for a flap sander where replaceable pieces of sandpaper are held in place with a pin. While the mechanism worked well, the sandpaper I used was not stiff enough. I'll see how it works at some point with thicker paper.
Thank you, You just helped me solved a huge step i'm facing in my shop. this is the fix.
4 slots are not enough...
looked like it was spinning backwards. meaning the rough side of the paper was away from the wood.
Maybe you were just not turning it fast enough? a 6" diameter bench grinder typically runs at 3450 RPM. Your effective diameter appears smaller than that. The surface speed power abrasives runs at is fairly high. Somewhere in the 6,000-9,000 feet a minute range. That earlier bench grinder example is 5,419 SFPM (Surface Feet per Minute)for instance. So say your effective diameter is maybe 4 inches? Now to achieve the same surface speed as a bench grinder you would have to turn at 5,174 RPM. Tell you what, when you turn your lathe up that high I'll be standing way over here.
