@@vaporiste After I cut the slot with the saw, I looked for a piece of metal that will fit a bit tight, to hold the paper well. In addition I added one screw on the top to secure the metal better (due to the high speed of the rotation).
This press has worked like a charm for my projects ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxajoEbapTfqWaadnqb04h6U576yxXp-FE . I didn't even secure it to my table top, mainly due to the fact that I was using a 15 lbs drill vise. It's not flimsy at all as to what others have claimed it to be. Make sure the locking nuts and levers are secured and there won't be any issues with light pressure and patience. I was able to drill through aluminum, plastic, and steel (steel took a while) with no problems at all. Yeah it took a little longer than a regular drill press, but I don't have the space OR the money for one.The instruction manual was worthless, but luckily assembling the press was intuitive. However, the manual would be good for ordering replacement parts if needed. There is a nice breakdown of the parts that are included in the kit. Before ordering, make sure it is compatible with your unit, it is clearly stated what models the press is compatible with. This was an excellent purchase for $40!!

I actually added a bearing at the bottom and a base which holds the bearing and the drum sander, to make it more stable. (I didn't have time to edit but I plan to upload part 2 of the video when ready)
Thank you! I actually added a bearing at the bottom and a base which holds the bearing and the drum sander, to make it more stable. (I didn't have time to edit but I plan to upload part 2 of the video when ready)
I know I could buy... but I love to create :) Anyway, in this case I made additional improvement and added a bottom support with a bearing, in order to prevent push of the drill press chuck from the side. (I need to edit the video and publish, didn't have time yet). I assume that the ones you buy doesn't have this support, so here I can customize it for any need.
So when paper is done, and you have to change, the screw must be unties, and screwed in again i. The same hole. So that gives it a short timespan, becsuse the holes will not fit the screw after short amount of paper change? Perhaps some threaded insert to screw a bolt into, rather then a metal screw to wood?
You're right, but meantime since it's not soft wood and I don't tighten the screw forcefully, it's still works fine. But your idea to use insert or so, is good, but I think it will require a thicker wood to have enough room for the hole. I'll consider it next time. Thanks!
@@silasgroenning I'm not sure I understood. Replacing the wood with an empty pipe? You need a full material without a hole. (unless I didn't understand correctly... :) )
@@XDIY yea i understand for the metal piece/clamp ti push against something to tighten.. perhaps, some cleaver welding could make this out of a metal pipe.. it would just if possible, giev it longevity.. i was just wandering if the metal would be to hard a material to push against, but its mere speculations. .. like.. the softness of the wood, would make it more easy to finger ninja the pieces you hold, or perhaps the hard profile of steel does not make any difference on the subtle how-it-feels… i hope you understand me now :)?
I agree with you... but I don't have a drill press (yet). It my father's and it's placed outside in the yard so it got rusty... sometimes I go there when I need it.

Does it hold securely with no screws?
I presume the width of the slot must be ajusted very well?

The dremel is here, but no dremel press yet 🙂

Great job, I have been wanting to make one of these for a while! Really like the use of the piece of metal to clamp the paper. Thanks for sharing! 😁
Thanks! :) I want to improve it later and add a bottom support with a bearing, in order to prevent the push the drill press chuck from the side...
Getting the paper to hold onto the core was what I was trying to find a solution for. Nice work. Thanks for sharing! 😀👍

Isn't this bad for the drill press alignment?

It would be beneficial to add another metal strip to the opposite side of the cylinder to help balance the drum and reduce vibration.

im rather concerned how much rope/string/wire is loosely hanging near your drill press!
Thanks for the warning! The drill press was moved to another location few months ago.
