So glad to see you guys are still going and doing good in the world, hope to get our machines in Panama back up and running when I go back to the Tribal Gathering site in a weeks time.
i love many things about this project!!! but as i cant stop questioning; in the vid i can see by creation there is some sort of plastic waste/micro plastic, how do you take care of the little waste? as microplastic is harder to collect, did you check on how to avoid lots of uncontrolled microplastic?
I love the Precious Plastic concept of micro recycling at the local level. What continues to surprise and confuse me though, is this practice of shipping the machines to get these local projects set up. The environmental footprint is completely avoidable by sourcing the parts and building the machines onsite, which is the original PP model. If there is truly no machine shop that can create the cutters and other key pieces for the build, it would be a more environmentally friendly to send the local group a DIY CNC machine to laser cut their own parts - which could then go on to be used by the enterprise as another revenue stream as well as to assist with creating molds, forms or products with the recycled plastic.
Hey Charles, thanks for your comment. This is a complex topic. We are very much on your side to try reduce shipping pollution. Over the year we've tried multiple options and for this project we believed this was the most effective way of delivering top quality machines that could last. For example during one of our first collabs in Kenya in 2017 we built all the machines locally only to realize that much of the parts were imported either-ways still causing shipping pollution at some point of their lifecycle. Plus this added quality and durability issues that undermined that particular project. This is a complex problem we are aware of and hope we can get more data on that soon.
@@Precious_PlasticHQ 💯it is a complex issue and and balancing local resources with the level of quality needed for long-term viability is really what has to define the solution for each individual project. Thanks for all your efforts and continuing work. Let's keep moving forward together!
First step should be to stop those poor people from digging into garbage containers... as it is neither healthy for them nor for the entire neighbourhood.... Second: the waste items must be sorted out in their original place...I.e at home... Third.. these must be dumped as they are sorted out ...in strictly COVERED containers ... labelled according to the types of waste materials...I.e glass, cartoons and paper...leather...plastic.... and sheer dirt ..... When are we going to realize that ...then its easier and worthwhile to start Big Recycling factories .... that generates work for a big number of people... Mind you... with health factors taken into account .... Plus keeping the country CLEAN.... .Best of luck....
