Were all out here. I was diagnosed in 94 at age 24. Its a disease thst can be invisible to those who are not dealing w/ anything in their health. No worries!! We all face it. Especially when 1st diagnosed with the fear of what might happen. I lost a decade due to the mystery of possible major disability. I decided to go back to school and am now a Respiratory Practitioner. I let the fear take control for quite awhile.
Karen Holland Thank you for sharing your story. Growing up my favorite teacher had MS and left teaching immediately. Last time I saw her was about the same time I was diagnosed. She was in her forties, in a senior care center and being spoon fed by an aide. I was diagnosed 20 years ago now but since my symptoms are not visible, my family doesn’t understand

10 years ago, my mom kept a dozen donuts until they got hard and put them in a beautiful cake tray for decor for her kitchen. They’re still on the counter and look the same as they day they were bought. Scary!
My doctor [UK] recommended eating nothing after dinner (for me, that means nothing after 20:00) and nothing before breakfast at 09:00, which I find hard but doable, and it gives me a 13 hour fast, just in case that helps anyone 🙂

Ate a low carb diet and lost weight, but didn't feel better and so in the long term it was not sustainable.. Now staying within healthy amount of macros, no gluten and dairy. I try to eat mostly food that comes from the ground of has a mother (like fish, beef, etc.). This has given me some energy and I feel better.
Lime or lemon in sparkling water is also super good! I’m also someone who almost exclusively drank pop at one point, and actually really used to dislike the taste of water. Sparking water helped me transition to regular water, and I often still drink it just because I simply like it!

Carla, I'm a pt of Doc B's, too. Have you taken Lauren's MS Wellness Class? You'll start off thinking she's asking for things that are impossible. Twelve weeks later, you'll be doing them with ease, and ready to crank up your workouts to MAXIMUM. It helped me sooooooo much!

Thanks so much Dr. B, I really appreciate your videos. Can you dive a bit deeper into why you say there is no research that shows an "MS diet" won't help? I have read Swank, Wahls, and Overcoming MS. They all cite a lot of research. What about that research don't you agree with?
I have forgotten exactly what you called it, but the way you described how your family figured out what to eat was simply amazing. I did this differently. I took note of how I felt after a meal and the next day. I used to vomit violently everyday. I found that cutting out fried anything helped which led me to a low fat diet since I found that the overall fat intake was a part of the cause. I switched to a low fat milk, but found it was still a problem so cut down a lot on milk products. I also found that heavy foods, like pasta and potatoes made me super fatigued for longer than just one day so cut out the heavy foods. I also took you up on the water challenge. This has made a huge difference! Thank You!!! I’ve also been trying to eat non-processed food. Still working on this, but I’m down to only 1 small glass of coke! This is huge difference for me since I could easily drink a 2L bottle a day! I’m not overweight which I feel is really important for us even more than people without this type of disease, but still trying to eat healthier. I am also trying to eat 3 meals a day, but I often don’t feel like eating early in the morning. As far as intermittent fasting goes, I do have a fasting day here and there. It’s not scheduled. If my stomach feels crappy, I skip solid foods and stick to water. Usually, I feel better the next day. If not, I stick to eating light, but never fast more than a day. Sorry for the mini book. 😆 Thanks for sharing your thoughts on diets! ❤️❤️🤗❤️❤️
The problem is not fat. It's that you lack the HCA and bile to break down fat. Removing fat is a bandied. Fix the root cause for long-term health because without adequate bile, you are not detoxing properly or absorbing fat solvable vitamins or cholesterol, which is really important for brain health and myelin repair. Obviously, choose healthy fats like avocados, fish, olive, tallow, butter and ghee and avoid seed oils like canola, corn or soy like your life depends on it, because it does. Those toxic oils will stay in your cell membrane for 4+ yrs. Remember that your brain and every cell in your body is made from fat. Fat is essential. Whatever fat you eat, your body will use to make your cells and brain so choose wisely.

Absolutely agree. Drink more water, go to the toilet more, have the symptoms heighten with leg weakness, cramping pain. This has been a cycle for me since 2007.
I read something about how it might not be that we are thirsty for water, but thirsty for electrolytes. A healthy amount of minerals. They used AC/DC as an example you see them perform and sweat is going everywhere. It wouldnt be water that they need, but electrolytes. @@feliciastrobhert6220 Dr B asked me to take high dose biotin about a year ago. The hope is that it will help preserve healthy brain tissue and help ppl with accelerated brain loss/atrophy (me!) by slowing it. There have only been one or two studies that demonstrate "some" improvement. My brain loss is accelerated, so we're trying whatever has shown any possibility of slowing it. I don't know yet if it's working. ? I've been off of it for a week so I can get some annual routing blood work done.
No diet has been proven to slow Multiple Sclerosis BUT such a diet may yet be discovered…. In the meantime, I’m learning continually [e.g. from this channel 🔥🔥🔥🔥] and always on the lookout for the next improvement I can add to my lifestyle 👍🙏
Just with everything Ive learned it does seem that healthy fats do have a benefit. If you think about it our brains are fat and water. Your brain is and needs a healthy amount of cholesterol. Fat insulates our nerve fibers. However the problem arises when you eat healthy and unhealthy fats, sugars and carbs. It damages blood vessels so a lot of docs just want you stay away from all fats. But they arent educating enough on the different types and the benefits.
Thanks so much for keeping us In the loop with everything. Since starting Lemtrada I am constantly fatigued....am going to keep on top of my diet even more now.
Thank you,, Dr. Boster, for talking about Ramadan. My teenage daughter's presenting symptom (ON) was day 5 of Ramadan 2 years ago. I haven't been able to find any good info on fasting during Ramadan and have been nervous each Ramadan since. We're coming to the end of Ramadan 2022 and so far so good. Thank you for bringing it up. Much appreciated!
I am still learning how to live with my diagnosis daily. For the last 2 yrs prognosis hasn't changed. The activity in my brain has is the same. I don't hv any new scars thankfully. I am goin to go back to taking Copaxone very soon however my insurance wants me to start on the Glutopia version of Copaxone. I had reactions to the Glatiramir version. But my insurance wants me to try the Glutopia version first. That was the hold up frm me taking the Copaxone. Since I only hv medicaid they will not pay for the real Copaxone. Ik I hv to get back to taking my vitamin D also. I jst got a new neurologist. My insurance offers one kind of vitamin D. The one I take is ok but everybody in my only MS group says the other one is better for me.
Hi, I noticed that when I drink out of a bottle, I glug twice and stop. My physiotherapist suggested that I drink out of a glass, it's really helped! I drink more water and I can measure what I drink
Actually I do interm. fasting. I found the most benefit to do it against the women‘s cycle. When protesteron is high, do fasting, also 24 hours gets quit easy and eat more keto. If estrogen is high, stop interm. Fasting and eat more good carbs like sweet potato and still in this time you don‘t gain wait. It helps me to feel much better and get more energy. Am I agree if you do interm. Fasting it is important to take electrolytes to avoid brain fog and fatigue.
So mad I missed your live stream, UA-cam a hour after grrr. I cut out my soda addiction after a surgery and my throat was hurt. I have learned to love water! I only eat once a day and have been this way for years. I'm not a snacker, I just don't get hungry until dinner. I'm only on 2 meds other than my DMT. We tend to eat out at local places, is that ok or fake food??
I enjoy beer and have found nonalcoholic beers hit the spot like N/A Sam Adams and Laguintas IPAs. We live in a time where these are becoming more popular, kinda cool.
Hi from the Intermountain West. What is your opinion about alpha lipoic acid? Wait for the results of the phase III trial or take it because there is already enough evidence that it could be helpful to PwMS? Thanks!
If esophagus condition involved, cold water/ice can make it worse. I don’t find the problem with “hot” water. I order water without ice if I go out. I like sparkling water.
Room temp water is better tolerated. The body has to "do work" when drinking something cold whereas room temp is better digestible if that makes sense?
Have you heard of mikhaila peterson? She doesn't have MS, she has rheumatoid arthritis since she was a little girl. She did a TED talk about her lion diet and it can be found on UA-cam. It's amazing. Her diet didn't get rid of her condition, but it helps it essentially lie dormant. If she strays from it she feels symptoms again. I try to get my doctors to look into her story, I don't think they've bothered lol
Hi Dr. Boster. I really like this revised format for your live streams. It makes it very easy to digest after the fact. I was able to take in the information you had to share and set aside the Q&A for the moment. While I know there is valuable info in the later part of the video, I didn't have an hour to give just now. So, it works for me. Thanks for doing what you do!
Good luck! If frequent injections irritate you, ask your doc about a drug like rituxan that is just 2 infusions in 6 months :) I made the switch and it's a relief. It also works WAAAYYY better

I agree. I tried Keto and felt worse. Intermittent fasting and common sense proportions I feel better with overall. Nothing too much one way or the other.
I practice a form of intermittent fasting called Buddahs diet. I have a 9 hour eating window, so i only eat between 10am and 7pm. I have coffee, tea, and water during the fasting hours. Buddahs diet recommends taking one day a week off. Its a diet book, not the actual diet by the buddha, btw.
@@AaronBosterMD I haven't lost weight doing it, but I do feel better overall. I used to wake up bloated and had tummy issues and I feel like IF almost completely eliminated that problem. I used to eat whatever i feel like to bcs i’m busy with work. Now that i’m not working anymore i cook & make everything on my own. Made my own almond milk for breakfast, use less oil to fry chicken & use the air fryer when i feel like eating fried chicken, make my own juice & eat more veges. I’m feeling so much better in terms of energy. Too much sugar, processed food & dairy slows me down. I also take photos of my food everytime i eat bcs it makes me feel better 💪🏻
Hey Doc! I'm removing dairy, soy, sugar, and....GLUTEN from my diet. I'm worried though about all of the rice, corn flour, and potato starch iin this type of bread. Don't these foods increase blood sugar? Wouldn't that act on my body the way regular sugar would with inflammation? I am wanting to make my own if it would help because premade loaves are frickin expensive. Also, i changed to eating dairy free. I use silk milk and dairy free cheese, no butter. Well, my son moved out and i found a wedge of pepper jack cheese in my fridge and decided to use it because i hate wasting food. Ive had pain and swelling in my hands since ive been using it. So, although the swelling could be caused by ANYTHING, I've decided to blame the dairy. I think that going dairly free was a good choice. Can you elaborate on any of this???
Would say more - or maybe do a video - about Anti-Inflammatory diet, please? As I understand it, there are physical markers that indicate chronic inflammation - eg that can appear in blood tests - or is that wrong? 👍🙂🙏
I personally am staring at 8 books for MS diets. 🙄🤔 Guess what I still have MS lol HOWEVER.... I too did the whole 30 and switched to whole 30 autoimmune which is essentially paleo and made sure I had lots of good fats, tons of veggies greens, cruciferous and colour medium proteins like fish and chicken and sweet potato here and there steel cut oats here and there. I added Intermittent Fasting and boom after a year I still had MS but hardly felt my symptoms and lost 86 lbs with limited exercise. All these books and diets are good but it was consistency and the Intermittent fasting that helped big time I did 16:8 and used myfitnesspal to track calories and macros. I have low thyroid and PCOS so very weightloss resistant!
Aaron thanks for asking... biggest hurdle is consistency! I could have done each of those diets with one week results but if you dont keep going you wont get results. So I committed to 21 days whole 30 autoimmune or elimination. 21 days creates a habit! I had headaches and felt icky for about 5 days without sugar dairy gluten. I have not added in dairy as I respond poorly to it that's very hard to live without ice cream lol but its much harder to live with constant ms symptoms! Consistency pre planned meal variety and good herbal teas to help bridge! Easiest part was feeling so much better and it became routine! Oh and I make a big thing of bone broth that helps with cravings and gives me nutrients and collagen for my whole body!

I agree carbonated is the best
DR Booster could you do a talk on supplements.
Yes, yes. You once talked about biotin. I want to hear more about that.

Hi from Canada
Thanks so much for keeping us In the loop with everything. Since starting Lemtrada I am constantly fatigued....am going to keep on top of my diet even more now.
This is a crazy comment, but the first thing I noticed when I started this video is…it looks like ME peeking over your plants in the window! Lol 🤣
I laughed out loud! You are funny! 😂🏵
Thank you Dr Boster - from Arizona!!
Have been trying to follow food , ireland
Yep, I love the flavored carbonated waters, too! They really do help me to stay hydrated.
The best!
Doctor,I've been on tysabri for 15 years and my doc just switched me to kesimpta. And I love coffee and water
Hi I am in Washington,DC
So mad I missed your live stream, UA-cam a hour after grrr. I cut out my soda addiction after a surgery and my throat was hurt. I have learned to love water! I only eat once a day and have been this way for years. I'm not a snacker, I just don't get hungry until dinner. I'm only on 2 meds other than my DMT. We tend to eat out at local places, is that ok or fake food??
I enjoy beer and have found nonalcoholic beers hit the spot like N/A Sam Adams and Laguintas IPAs. We live in a time where these are becoming more popular, kinda cool.
Hello Dr. Boster! Greetings from Finland!

Sleep is vital to us all. And MSers often have crummy sleep. Are you or have you done a "Live" concerning sleep and strategies for improving sleep?
+Ellen Alers I’ve done videos on sleep and fatigue but I’m happy to do a live stream on the topic! TY for the idea :)
Joy from Webbwood Canada… don’t know if I have MS or not
Hi from the Intermountain West.
Its worth a try. I would have to mentally prepare for that and have the food and recipes ready for go time!
Hi Dr.
Diagnosed with MS last year and on Copaxon, fingers crossed :-(
Good luck! If frequent injections irritate you, ask your doc about a drug like rituxan that is just 2 infusions in 6 months :)
I made the switch and it's a relief. It also works WAAAYYY better
That was my first therapy...good luck..keep spirits high
Don’t have sad face...is it RRMS?
@mike rusch cheers! You're on humanised juice, I'm on mouse juice 😁

Everyone's genetic makeup is unique, so it is my opinion that vegetables and fruits are best for each individual.
What do you think about it so far?
@@AaronBosterMD I haven't lost weight doing it, but I do feel better overall. I used to wake up bloated and had tummy issues and I feel like IF almost completely eliminated that problem. I am going to TRY to go the entire month of August without drinking soda. But as Yoda said, do or not do, there is no try. 😊 Your video has motivated me to kick the bad habit.
Dr. Boster, what is your thoughts about Stevia?
Same! I hear differing views. I try to avoid stevia with natural flavors added at least.
I love sparkling water...I recently purchased a soda stream...making sparkling water all day 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

I think all health conditions are because the food we eat.

This makes a difference, a functional medicine doc would be more on board for discussing this. You can search youtube and read books on this as well.
Love you Aaron!!!
Love you right back!!

Congratulations Cariad! That is an impressive change! What was the hardest part? What was easier than you expected? TY for sharing with us!
