    Something tells me there’s issues going on with the Pro-charger tuning.. no doubt that you leaned it out. Magnuson seems to have no such issues and no complaints to be found about blowing engines. I’m also speaking as someone who has a supercharged 2023 4Runner. I beat the hell out this truck and have no issues. Regardless, if she does blow out of warranty, LS is going in or a Cummins 2.8r.

    The Procharger for this engines 1GRFE, in the Tacoma’s advertises up to 390hp. I’ve seen only 2 2GRFEs(3.5L) blown up. One was crawling really steep and was probably ran dry, and the other it was a beat up one that had a master cylinder failure that made it so brake fluid got into the intake and oil. Other than that this engines are very solid, even the early ones that had headgaskets issues. do you think it blew due to much pressure? like not enough supporting mods to go with the pro charger and the tune?
    with most boosted vehicles I've always thought you need a set up to get rid of the extra air just as much as you're throwing it (exhaust mods really) headers, ypipe, muffler. Maybe im wrong but it just seems weird to me to throw boost in and not a way to get it out.

    • @natedrives_
      @natedrives_  Рік тому

      Well it wasn't over-pressurized cylinders, so the exhaust wasn't the issue. At it's core it was detonation (knock) that happened ultimately pushing the rod through the block.

      8 PSI peak, we aren't entirely sure, unfortunately with the software we didn't have a ton of logging capabilities so it limited what we could go back and look at. When we do another F/I setup on Lunar2 we will be utilizing a stand alone to be able to actually log everything.

    I don’t think it was the blowers fault. The boot that thing puts out isn’t enough to be the cause. It’s has to be the fueling and timing that resulted in the detonations we were seeing.
    So either do you install parts in correctly or your tuner was all over the place with engine timing.
    You don’t need a 2JZ! Just take a V8 out of one of the Lexus f sports

    • @natedrives_

      We wanted to go above and beyond.
      Fueling wasn't an issue as we were on a fuel setup good enough for ~800whp.
      As for the F-Sport engines, they're incredibly expensive for what you get, plus even less transmission options!

    • @ryanb8736
      @ryanb8736 Рік тому

      These engines don’t like to be boosted. Many have popped the Tundra 5.7’s too when supercharged. It’s only a matter of time with abuse.
      My friend has an older Audi SQ5 with a factory supermodel and it’s tuned to 500hp and beat on with 150k.
      He decides it’s time to charge his Tundra. Was fun and sounded great. He was out pounding it hard one night and popped the engine.
      None of us thought a 5.7 would blow. Now we know why nobody is charging them anymore.
      I wanted to buy a Lexus GSF and charge it, but won’t now.
      The transmission is also a very weak link in Toyota and Lexus.
      This is another reason why the 2JZ is still Toyotas best engine. It loves to be boosted. Only one.

    Never heard of Pro Charger before this video. Everyone uses Magnuson as a super charger on their 4 runners. Heard they have excellent support. Cheaper is not always better. A few guys in Colorado have the long travel Setup from Total Chaos and after talking to them about it they would never do it again. They also have said re gearing made a bigger difference than any supercharger they have installed. Only seen one guy do it right with a new wider rear axle. Otherwise it is unstable at speed and looks weird. The also have said the squeaking and noise from the new fenders is really bad on longer drives. I wish you luck buddy.

    • @natedrives_
      @natedrives_  Рік тому +1

      Well the axle is widened now to match, but as for the ProCharger kit, they make fantastic units, just centrifugal instead of roots style, so more like a belt driven turbo to over-simplfy it. Allows for higher peak capabilities. Cost wasn't ever a factor and it was not a "budget" option. The fenders need isolators of some form to act like oem, kind of the nature of fiberglass though.
