I've watched both of your videos about the Level 8, which looks to be a really practical carryon. I ALWAYS lock my carryon and the Level 8 integrated locks for both main compartments AND front pocket are a great feature. Also, the Level 8 locks are on the TOP of the bag where they belong. Having to add a cable lock to the Monos front pocket means if the bag is gate checked there's a big risk of the lock getting caught in bag handling machinery. However, I cannot wrap my head around a carryon in 2023 that weighs 9.5 pounds empty. As a five foot tall woman in my seventies I cannot fathom trying to lift the packed bag into an overhead. Even though the Level 8 has great features and looks, I'm going to have to go with a new Travelpro, mainly due to weight. Thanks for your very thorough and informative reviews and comparisons.
We agree, the weight will be an issue for us as well going forward. The billion dollar idea is a carry-on that is lite but durable, secure and meets size requirements for all the world's airlines. Thanks for watching and the comment, happy travels!
One thing I’ve noticed that’s kind of annoying about the monos is that it scratches way too easily 😩 For a luggage that’s over 300$ you would think it would be more scratch resistant. Thank you for the review ❤
This was extremely helpful. Been really looking hard at the Monos but was having concerns it wouldn't be able to fit my 16" MacBook...I'm pretty sure the Level 8 will though! The one thing that it's missing that I'd love is a USB or USB-C charging port like Solgaard's luggage has. I honestly can't find a carry on with the laptop sleeve, charging port, and TSA lock. But based on this I think Level 8 is the way I'm gonna go.
Glad you found it helpful Nick and I agree all those other things would be great. I looked a lot and for a long time and just could not find one that checked all the boxes. Let us know if you have any problems with your new case or anything I should update about it.Thanks for watching and the comment!
Unfortunately each airline seems to have their own standard, it fits most of the major US carries from what I could find. Hope this helps, thanks for watching.
On the level 8 website it says its 9.5lbs while monos its 7.8lbs. Were you able to weigh them? which one is heavier and by how much? Weight is a HUGE contributing factor to purchase because most airlines these days, especially international flights, will weigh your carry on.
I just put all three (Shannon has the carry-on 20) on the scale and here are the results. The Monos came in at 8.2 pounds, the Level 8 at 9.2, and Shannon's carry-on 20 was 7.4. These are of course unofficial results, the one that really matters is the gate agent. Hope this helps, thanks for watching.
Shannon has the the Textured Carry-On 20 and the Level 8 Packing cubes with it, www.level8cases.com/collections/carry-on/products/elegance-20-luggage?variant=29204644495471.
Monos has better attention to detail. Locks are rarely or never used by most people for carry ons because the bag is always with them. The front pocket doesn't flap all the way open and is designed to hold itself open because when the bag is in use the normal use is to reach for something while the bag is standing up like getting your laptop or chargers out in the airport. The beige interior color instead of a dark color because it's easier to see dark colored clothing. Also Monos has a lifetime warranty, Level 8's warranty is vague and doesn't specifically state what's covered and for how long.
I always use my carry-on locks because my suitcase isn't always in the overhead above my row. Plus, they may ask for it to be gate checked at the last minute. Anything I need during the flight is in my personal item under the seat in front of me.
Having both cases I would say both have good attention to detail. We use the locks a lot, especially when traveling overseas on trains or buses, when space is not always available to have your bag right by your side or even overhead in a compartment. The issue with the front pocket for me is that I almost always need something after I have opened the case on the bed or dresser so with the Monos I have to zip it back up to stand it up so I can see what I am looking for. With the Level 8 I can fold the pocket side over and pull the pocket open to get what I need or to packet it. We use packing cubes so interior color was not a big deal for us. As far as warranties go you never really know what they will cover until you have to use it, they both have "damage determined by us" clauses in their verbiage so hopefully I never have to use it for either. You have some really good points and It sounds like you're going with Monos. Like I said in the video it's a great case and do not think you can go wrong with either hopefully they serve us both well for many years of travel. Thanks for watching and the comment!
The Level 8 is 14.4''L X10.1''W X 21.5''H including the wheels and handles. It has a capacity of 38L and weighs 9.5 pounds The Monos Exterior measurements: 22" × 14" × 9" Measurements include wheels and fixed handles Interior measurements: 20" × 13.5" Pocket measurements: 15.3" × 10" × 1" Weight: 7.8 lb Volume: 36 L Hope this helps, thanks for watching and the comment!
It’s very lite but sturdy and as I TRY to pack with only one carryon and one personal item. the away has two compartments of which one is compressible The monos is closely designed with the away. They are all a bit pricey but my bag looks almost new after dozens of flights. I realize that since the airline gorillas aren’t handling it I will have it longer but I’ve never had a bag I’ve loved more. I do hope you get a chance to compare with the level 8. I don’t see much difference between the away and monos and chose the away because I like the handle better but that’s just personal

if you use packing cubes for your socks and undervare you eliminate that problem

Thank you for the review ❤
I totally agree! The magic eraser they send seems to help some but it doesn't take them all off. Thanks for watching and the comment
Thank you sir for showing the differences of the two, it really helps, mabuhay!
Ty for the review. This was perfect timing
Glad it was helpful, thanks for watching!

Do both carryons actually can fit a MacBook pro 16 inch?
Is the level one carry on bag acceptable for most airlines. They measure a bit larger than monos

Can you do Tydeckare carry on vs Level 8 . And Check luggage 🧳 of both 28, 24.
I will reach out to them and see if they can send me a carry-on for review. Thanks for watching and the comment.
Good review and comparison. Could you please compare and post the exterior dimensions, including the wheel/handles? Thanks.

Maybe compare with the Away carryon. I think it’s better than these two
I would love to compare the two if I can get them to send me one for review. I’ll reach out to them. Thanks for watching we really appreciate it.

They don’t sell a laptop sleeve version
Is the monos color ocean blue?
Yes, the Ocean Blue is the color I purchased. The Level 8 is close in color but a little more shiny. Thanks for watching!
