Leen Sulaiman thanks so much for watching and enjoying my carrot video. Now, let's talk about why you aren't growing your own food yet! :) Have you ever considered it? It's easier than you think and massively rewarding. I have a lot of great videos to teach you how if you have even a remote interest. Best decision I've made EVER to become a gardener! You can start really small with just a couple buckets, a bag of of good soil and a $2 packet of seeds. ~Sheryl :)
I did carrots this year in a raised bed, the first planting didnt come up because i didnt water them. so I learned, but the second planting that i keep watered is looking good.
It is good to know this is possible. The delight in your voice made it that much more enjoyable to watch the video! Congratulations and best wishes for your marriage!
Glad you're going to grow some carrots in containers! If you would like to grow the seedlings first in the winter in milk jugs, we do a method called Winter Sowing method to do that. Then you can transplant them into your buckets. you can learn about it in the group posted below. if you decide to do that, to get a jump start, when you go to transplant them, you can do it one of two ways, either take the WHOLE SOIL AND PLANTS out as a big hunk and transplant that. Or you can divide it into say 3-4 chunks and plant those. Keep all the soil with the roots and try not to disturb them. Add fresh soil to the transplant hole and you're good to go! The key is taking all the soil with it. Sheryl Are you in my Veggie Winter Sowing group? If not, jump over there and join the fun! facebook.com/groups/WinterSowing.VegGardeningWithSheryl
That’s awesome to know just sprinkle and watch for a harvest in about three months! I’m going to involve the grand kiddos in this one !!! Thanks for sharing! 🥕
I'm so glad you made this follow up video. I've always direct down but this time I started the seeds in a small container and wasn't sure what the best method was. Great harvest!!! I'm confident now to follow your brick techniques. Thankyou so so much!!!
This has gotten me SUPER excited. I'm starting gardening for the first time and doing it on a small scale in an apartment. This has given me a lot of hope that I can grow carrots in containers!! I'm actually going to try using water and pop bottles and have 1 - 2 carrots in each. We'll see how it goes. :D Thanks for all your inspiration!
+Melody Joy So glad my carrot harvest video got you excited! I had a lot more containers this year and will be posting that harvest soon. (so make sure you're subscribed to see when they come out) Re the carrots, plant more seeds than you think you'll need as some seeds will fail. If you get 'too many' germinating, you can always pull a few out for spacing. Keep me posted and if you feel like videoing your garden, let me know your channel name and I'll watch YOU! Best to ya, Sheryl :)
+JuicingGardener (Sheryl Mann) You can find my channel by clicking on my name. I have a lot of random videos, but nothing with gardening so far. I'll definitely have to include some gardening videos once I get my plants going! Right now I have tomatoes, bell peppers, and strawberries in starter pots, but I'll probably get my carrot seeds going this week!
Great carrots! My carrots pretty much bombed in my container last summer. They were stubby, deformed looking things. When I used to grow them in the ground they were amazing. Maybe I'll try the Fingerling variety. I just think homegrown carrots taste SO MUCH BETTER than store bought.
+Susan Maxwell thanks Susan! Mine were a little on the 'uglies' side last year but we did eat everyone and the taste is like nothing else! This year I'm changing up my soil mix to a lighter soil. good luck on yours!! thanks for stopping by. ~Sheryl :)
Glad to hear you're going to give Winter Sowing in milk jugs a go this year! you can still do it now and they will grow pretty fast since the temps are warming up. Let me know how you do. Are you in our FB group yet? If not, here's a link. come join us! facebook.com/groups/WinterSowing.VegGardeningWithSheryl
Hello Sheryl. Your carrots scrubbed up well. Well done. I have been growing carrots in 10" pots. These are quite small in size compared to your 5 gallon buckets but nevertheless, I got some good results. The secret I found was to have your compost as fine as you can get it and make a conscious effort to sow your seeds thinly. Some advantages of a smaller pot are that it takes less to fill them, they are easier lifted and when you empty them out you can eat all the carrots fresh that day. There are a few carrot in pot's vids on my channel if you want to take a peek.
That's SO great that you get good carrot crops in little 10 incher buckets. I would not have thought to use that size. I appreciate your tips on the fine compost and thin seed sowing. I went crazy with my seeds unnecessarily. I will definitely go look at your videos this weekend! Can't wait. thanks for watching and sharing your comments! `Sheryl
I have just started growing things in 5 gallon buckets in a Kidde pool. I am having good luck so far. I am under the impression that I can sow carrots thickly and thin them as desired and eat or juice the small ones that I pull up. Is that correct? Thanks for the video. Liked and subbed. John Davis Jax Fl
Your voice is so pleasant to listen to. I really enjoyed this video as I'm planning to plant carrots in containers this year. What kind of soil did you use?
+Tiffany Kelley Thank you for your kind words. I use Fox Farm Happy Frog potting soil. it's rich, light and divine. go to their site and look for the store finder for a local shop so you don't have to pay shipping. Another is Black Gold. they have a store finder too. both are organic. worth every penny! take care, Sheryl :)
+Fineas Fogg Thank you and I'm thrilled that you'll be growing carrots in buckets! Be patient, give them super light soil and they love a lot of water :) ~Sheryl
Very nice harvest for two buckets. I am thinking of trying to grow carrots in the buckets this year due to the damage received from voles last year. Your success has given me seed for thought. Great video! Steve
+Bearworf1 Thanks Steve! So glad you're going to give carrots in buckets a go! I did them again last year and they were smaller but still tasty and will do them again. The key is light soil so the carrots have room to grow. and they like a lot of water! keep me posted! :)
I am doing ground already planted, but ran into suburban homestead's video this am called "never thin again, best carrots ever". Sheryl GF, you have gotta check that one out it's a method I have never ever seen, but wow I am trying it on my fall carrot crop I will actually be planting more soon at home, most are at the church's community garden plot right now. your first harvest way better than my first one was, /I got 6 carrots from my first harvest but I was just glad they survived..lol
+hope crews thanks for the heads up on his carrot video. I love his stuff, very creative. I just lucked out my first year! Keep on trying and you'll get better carrots each year. Thanks a bunch for watching! Take care Sheryl :)
I always have trouble growing carrots when I have a garden every year starting in late spring into fall! How do you do it? You should make a video showing your every day routine on what you do to grow carrots, specifically in the containers since I always grew mine in the ground. I live in the New England region of the United States so we recently got quite a blizzard of snow (5-8 inches) so of course when the time of year comes, you should do it once the winter frost is gone.
Gorgeous harvest! I can't wait to plan mine in 7-gallon and 10-gallon fabric containers this summer (first time!) I'll be planting Parisian Market ones in a window planter, "Nantes" and "Sweet Finger" sized ones in the fabric containers. My apt's balcony only gets sun in the afternoon (partial to full by late afternoon) so I'm REALLY hoping they'll be OK! Planting lotsa veggies this summer. Fingers crossed.
Hi Sheryl. So happy for you. I sowed carrot seeds in big pots early summer. Today is 2/26/2021 and I have been pulling them up. I see very small roots so I cooked them and the leaves with greens from my containers. I wonder what I did wrong?
It was too soon for them to fully sprout. You prob did nothing wrong! They need certain warm temps to sprout and grow. Sowing seeds early doesn't make them pop up any sooner! It's either that or potting mix quality.
You are the sweetest cutest ever! I have my first garden ever this year! This is how excited I'll be if anything grows! I cannot wait! (And I'm sooooo going to try carrots in containers now!). Thanks! 😉
+Amy Warren thanks so much Amy. you made my day. I love what I do in the garden. Have a fantastic time digging into your first year. I wish you major success. Keep me posted on how you do! ~Sheryl :) PS I have a Veggie Winter Sowing group if you want to learn how to grow seedlings for almost free in the cold or snow. Link to join is under my Winter Sowing videos. ~Sheryl :)
+skyym3 wonderful to hear you're going to grow carrots in containers now! make sure your soil is rich and light and fluffy so they have room to grow. happy growing! ~Sheryl :)
Not bad results! I've watched this video and he gives good info. I've got about 9 planted in a 5 gal bucket and trying to be patient but I know they're growing! I planted Sweet Nantes.
Thanks so much for watching my big carrot reveal video, Fort Negrita! After watching them grow every day for months, you bet it is an exciting day. Can't wait to grow more this season! ARe you growing your own vegetables in containers too?
Beautiful carrots!! I've planted some in plastic cat litter containers never grown them before so wasn't really sure when to harvest them, thank you for another awesome informative video 😊
Bree Craw that''s awesome that you're doing your first carrots! let me know how they turn out. Better yet, VIDEO your results and let me know and I"ll watch it!! Funny about my voice. Well, at least I like Jane Fonda LOL ~Sheryl :)
Hi Sheryl! This video is AWESOME!!! Congrats! I'm so excited that I found your you-tube channel!! I'm new to veggie container gardening and can't wait to grow my own produce. Could you give me any tips on where to find the best seed starter mix and if I can use that for when I transplant them to pots...? And for a great price too. thanks so much!!!
Thanks SO much for your kind comments on my videos and JuicingGardener channel! Nice to meet ya. Re your question about soil, there are SO many good answers here. I personally use the same mix to start my seeds in as I do to plant them in. I use a soil called FOX FARM HAPPY FROG. The only thing I do differently when I transplant them is I add with a few things called amendments for more nutrition. I add worm castings, vermiculite, Azomite (rock dust) and sometimes peat moss. They are not necessary but once you get into this, you'll want to have the most flavorful, large, strong, healthy plants possible and those amendments will do the trick! These are NOT the cheapest way to go, they are the healthiest way. I use only ORGANIC soils and amendments because I don't want my soil to have pesticides or toxic chemicals in it. Anything in your soil is absorbed right into your plant and goes into your body. It's more expensive, but I would not garden if I could not do it organically. That's just me. Have FUN and keep me posted on your progress!! ~Sheryl :)
One of many questions. What container yielded the best, the one that you randomly spread the seeds or other. Judging from roots depth could shallow containers be used without losing size.
Dave Meeks the container where I just cast them randomly did better than the rows. It had more seeds too. Yes, I think you could use 10" deep pots if you didn't use the biggest carrot seeds. These were "Little Fingers" which were supposet to be short. I am going to try some more shallow containers this season too.
Cheryl, next time mix some potash into your soil mixture and add some organic compost....select Nantes carrots, and you will harvest giant carrots. Have fun.
thanks for the potash tip. I have a hard time finding organic compost here in N Ohio. Very expensive to buy in bags. I've not been too successful building my own yet. I'd love to have giant carrots next time! I've just started feeding them kelp and it's helping. Thanks for watching and sharing! Sheryl :)
great job, and tips, I grow my extra seeds along the river banks, yep critters gets some of it but not all using bulb foods keeps people from finding them as well
thanks for your kind comments, donze52. interesting thought about using bulb foods so people don't find them! you must be near a city. I'm out where there ARE no people! just a bunch of hungry deer, gophers, groundhogs, moles, rabbits, chipmunks, squirrels, birds... you get the picture. Thats why I do fenced-in container gardening. I can control my environment. Take care, Sheryl :-)
JuicingGardener (Sheryl Mann) live in city of 7,000 but my property wife and I own for 41 years is just 1/10th acre so we garden along river banks on other peoples land. Shhhhhhhhhh
Great video. I've never planted carrots but will definitely be planting some after watching your video. You mentioned something about where to get the buckets for free ?
You did well I tried in a pot but failed lol. mine were very small. Thanks for your sub. Look forward to your new post will have a look through your other posts. Dave
Thanks, I was really pleased. I'm going to do a whole row of carrot buckets this season, staggering them a week apart. I like to juice them and this will keep me in carrot juice for the late season!
I think I planted the carrot seeds too deep the first time so I planted 3 more last night. The first batch I plated about a finger length into the soil. Lets see how many manage to grow.
AfromanInJapan good that you realized that. A finger length deep would be too deep for sure. The key is to bury a seed TWO times the thickness of the seed. So if the seed is 1 mm thick, you bury it 2 mm deep. So for carrot seeds which are tiny, you'd just sprinkle some soil lightly over them and water gently until them catch hold. :)
+hope crews Hey thank you for that! I was pretty please for my first container carrots. i'll get better each year. ARe you growing container on in-ground carrots? Any tips? Sheryl :)
Genesis Nichols thanks for watching! I watered my carrots every couple of days but we had a lot of good rain too. Carrots like to be moist, not soggy though. Tips for your next carrots is LOOSE soil. I add a lot of vermiculite. Some add sand but i've not tried it. you want a light mix so the roots can grow. You also want to thin them so they have room. Keep me posted and good luck! ~Sheryl :)
gloria esquivel it was a grand day in the garden harvesting these carrots. Can't wait to do it again this season. I have more buckets this year. Thanks for watching! ~Sheryl :)
so glad you're going to grow some carrots in buckets!! They are so gratifying and much easier to grow and harvest in buckets compared to in ground. Let me know how yours do! Thanks for watching Sheryl :)
Yes at that time I was renting and if we moved, I wanted to take them with us. Also tons or moles and voles ate underground crops and lastly I like to control the quality of my soil. :)
So I just saw the age of this video glad you're having fun with carrots what you need to do is take and use peat moss as the base probably 85% to 15% compost your carrots will grow much better and get longer and be straighter also add some bone meal to your soil carrots thrive on that they need it to grow your soil should be very loose you should be able to take your hand and stick it down to your wrist or further without any hindrances
I love carrots of ANY length!! Here's the link to find your free containers for container gardening! ua-cam.com/video/zYIUj3kKXIM/v-deo.html take care Sheryl :)
+PouceVert thank you for the carrot growing tips. I've learned a lot since that video and you're right, sand can help with the drainage. I think my soil was a bit too dense. Trying it again this year! Do you have carrots growing in containers too? How have they done in the past? ~Sheryl :)
You are so kind. My carrot did grat but i did not plant them in pots. I will try this thecnique this years ! i'll be sure to tell you any tips if i found and i can't wait to see another of your video!
Here is the heavy duty deer netting link from my store. there are cheaper ones that are not heavy duty you can check out too. amzn.to/2j8HWVU Did you know that if someone comes to Azon using your link, that all the shopping they do that visit are credited to you? Sheryl
The carrot seeds went into the milk jugs for Winter Sowing in early March. They sat there in hibernation until probably around late April, early May when sprouts appeared. Then they were harvested late Sep. So 6-7 months. Hands off. No work at all. I love the method! :) Have you tried Winter Sowing yet? Sheryl facebook.com/groups/WinterSowing.VegGardeningWithSheryl Come join the family!
xxNBTROUBLExx probably took abour 80 days or so. Carrots do take a long time and the first few months seem like the slowesst, like nothing is happening. Then they really start to take off so BE PATIENT! :) ~Sheryl PS make sure you think them out so they are not jam packed together. they need space.
Thank you. I use Happy Frog or Black Gold potting mix. I also add my own amendments of worm castings, compost and rock dust called Azomite. Here's a link for my soil and amendments. astore.amazon.com/veggiewintersowing-20?_encoding=UTF8&node=24 Thanks for watching! Sheryl

I have had great success with my carrots in my raised bed. I have only grown for 2 years. Delicious!
Eating on the Wild Side gives great info on selecting the varieties that are most nutrient dense. For carrots, the colored ones are best.
Thanks much for that recommendation!
Home grown veg has some good videos on growing in 10inch pots but carrots is a good one try to watch it keep up the good work

:)
great job, and tips, I grow my extra seeds along the river banks, yep critters gets some of it but not all
using bulb foods keeps people from finding them as well
thanks for your kind comments, donze52. interesting thought about using bulb foods so people don't find them! you must be near a city.
Shhhhhhhhhh
AAHHH makes sense. I won't tell a soul ;)

really good big picture view. Thanks for sharing it!
I want to do this as soon as I can get some containers and I have nantees or a name similar to that. This is wonderful and thanks for demoing this.
The harvest looks like it was fun.
It was fun! I was secretly estatic. Only a true gardener would understand LOL ;)
Thanks so much for sharing I couldn't help but rejoice in your success.
Great video. I've never planted carrots but will definitely be planting some after watching your video. You mentioned something about where to get the buckets for free ?
Wonderful work...I am inspired!
a very nice harvest. i was just as excited when i grew some
i loved your video. thanks for sharing. its my first time having a veggie garden. its spring and i decided to give it a try. im so excited 😀
You did well I tried in a pot but failed lol. mine were very small. Thanks for your sub.
Look forward to your new post will have a look through your other posts.
Dave
Keep trying on those carrots, Dave. I believe the key is high quality organic soil
I might try a pot in the grow room this winter.
I do ok in the ground but I like the idea of succession with the carrots.
Dave
That’s an impressive harvest for those buckets honestly great job
Very nice amount from two little buckets!
Thanks, I was really pleased. I'm going to do a whole row of carrot buckets this season, staggering them a week apart. I like to juice them and this will keep me in carrot juice for the late season!
I know your joy !This was my first year too and I kept saying YES I can grow stuff!!
Thanks for the encouragement, Amanda! I just love the entire process and beauty of growing produce.
Just bought be some soil, container and come seeds. gonna plant my big ones today and see how they come out.
+AfromanInJapan Happy gardening! Hope they turn out great for you! ~Sheryl :)
I think I planted the carrot seeds too deep the first time so I planted 3 more last night. The first batch I plated about a finger length into the soil. Lets see how many manage to grow.
AfromanInJapan
good that you realized that. :)
JuicingGardener (Sheryl Mann)
I see thank you very much
That is a great harvest. Thanks for sharing! :)
How do you keep your soil for next year ?
Your carrots look great
not too shabby for your first time out of the gate Sheryl!
+hope crews Hey thank you for that! I was pretty please for my first container carrots. i'll get better each year. ARe you growing container on in-ground carrots? Any tips?
Sheryl
:)
Hello, just found you on here love this! but where do you get the buckets ?? it would be so much more easier the milk jugs ! Please!!! 😊
Thank you for subscription- I very much appreciate it.
Happy to, Patrick. Looking forward to more of your videos! ~ Sheryl
What kinda soil did you use to grow your carrots? Cant wait till I plant mine !
You harvest looks great, how often did you water? I live in Ca and it seems like my tops are not growing much any tips.
~Sheryl :)
Very happy for you. They look great!

Thanks so much for your kind comments! ~Sheryl :)
I love it.
gloria esquivel it was a grand day in the garden harvesting these carrots. Can't wait to do it again this season. I have more buckets this year. Thanks for watching! ~Sheryl :)
im going to try this! wow you got a lot of carrots!
so glad you're going to grow some carrots in buckets!! They are so gratifying and much easier to grow and harvest in buckets compared to in ground. Let me know how yours do!
Thanks for watching
Sheryl
:)
That was an amazing harvest!!
Is there any reason you grow in buckets?
Yes at that time I was renting and if we moved, I wanted to take them with us. Also tons or moles and voles ate underground crops and lastly I like to control the quality of my soil. :)
Bugs Bunny would have been proud of you!! LOL!!
Thanks Kevin K. Will be doing that this year 😁 🥕
It's amazing how like Jane Fonda your voic and accent is 💖
Beautiful
+Marco Monti thank you for enjoying my carrots. it was one of the high points of my 3 years of gardening. :)

Nice haul.
Thanks Paula. I'm all about container carrots this year since those did so well last season. I have about 15 containers growing now. :-)
I'm ready to harvest mine it's getting cold..
Your prbelm is not the sprinkles or the row.... its the air and water drainage de root can have. Thy mixing moss or sand in your pot, carrot love it !

Cool, I'm trying them in a bucket this year too, Another gardener I watch grows them in buckets all the time.
I love you carrot 🥕
Haha.. Love your enthusiasm!
SoSheree thanks much for watching and appreciating my enthusiasm in my garden! I couldn't love it more. ~Sheryl :)
Did she say that she like them "Big, thick, and twelve inchs long...". Wow! Calm down lady! 🤣🤣🤣
how long did the whole process take from planting seeds to harvesting cheers
The carrot seeds went into the milk jugs for Winter Sowing in early March. They sat there in hibernation until probably around late April, early May when sprouts appeared. Then they were harvested late Sep. So 6-7 months. Hands off. No work at all. I love the method! :)
Have you tried Winter Sowing yet?
Sheryl

How long did it take to grow to that point? My seem to be going slow
xxNBTROUBLExx probably took abour 80 days or so. Carrots do take a long time and the first few months seem like the slowesst, like nothing is happening. Then they really start to take off so BE PATIENT! :) ~Sheryl PS make sure you think them out so they are not jam packed together. they need space.
Im curious how long to grow?
nice...what kind of soil do u use?
Thank you. I use Happy Frog or Black Gold potting mix. I also add my own amendments of worm castings, compost and rock dust called Azomite. Here's a link for my soil and amendments.
