I was having this problem working on my C5 Corvette and you saved me from having to buy yet one more tool that I probably would only use just once. Thanks so much.
Amazing! Thanks a ton for this tip, worked a charm to free up a stubborn wiper arm here in the Rust Belt that resisted my best attempts to free it using penetrating oil, repeated wriggling, and even a rubber mallet. This video is truly UA-cam at its best!
Thank you. Been soaking it in Wd-40 for 10+ hours and despite that has always worked for me, and sometimes vinegar too, this time the car being 20k years old, only your method worked. Thank you
Thank you, thank you, thank you. Didn’t find this video until after I had purchased a gear puller to remove the arm. Couldn’t get it to center, and remove the arm. Back to YT to find your video. One minute later, RESULTS! Sending back the puller today. Many thanks for the quick, cheap, effective tip!
I was having issues breaking the arm free, I tried the pulley method and a couple others. None of them worked, but your method broke it free. Thanks so very much.
spent over an hour trying to remove my wiper arm today , come on youtube and bingo , i will be trying this in the morning , i'm having one of those "why didnt i think of this" moments haha
Thank you so much for this. I bought a wiper puller tool and it just bent. Your trick is amazing. I thought I was screwed until I came across your video. You rock!!! Thanks
Congratulations and thank you for making a truly helpful instructional video. It's the best I have seen in a while. You performed the actions slow and showed the tools with enough time to actually see them. I give you two thumbs-up and 5 stars for an excellent video. Great job!
Think you so much! Would never have gotten the arm off without this video. The wiper motor was going, and if I moved one arm the other moved too. The linkage from the motor the the rest of the arm linkage had popped off. Lubed it up and popped it back on (rust and debris had probably caused it to fall off initially). Anyway, thank you, hope this helps others too
The "special tool" arrived for this job a few days ago as demonstrated in your previous video ! Well worth the tenner and no skinned knuckles .But this method you show is very clever.
Thanks very much. I just got the idea when looking at what the special tool does. I hope we didn't waste a tenner each lol. I'm still glad to have the other tool, it does the job perfectly and I suspect I might end up using it for some other jobs too :)
Holy shit man you are my new best friend. Method 2 was the one that worked for me. I wish I found this video earlier would have saved me a windshield. I even bought a special tool to do the job and I didn't work either. Thanks for the video. Now to you the windshield place at the tune of $500.
@shawnstafford7809 Wow nice car, lucky you ! 😎. I've rarely seen, let alone worked on a Firebird so I have no idea I'm afraid. I've only ever seen wiper arms fitted onto splined shafts and secured with nuts
Thanks!! I went through a "soft touch" car wash and the soft touch brushes broke the plastic piece on that rear wiper arm that holds the blade in. I took the nut off and tried everything except a puller to get that arm off but no luck. I saw your video and tried the vise grip method and it broke free immediately!! Whew!! Thanks again. It worked great.
Still helping people, thank you for sharing this trick! Helped me remove the stuck wipers in 30 seconds , and without risking damaging them, works like a beauty!
thank you so much, this worked so well for me. I went and bought a battery terminal pulller because someone in an forum said that works, it was too flimsy/had soft metal and broke. I used your method and got them off in 5 minutes
A job that I'd spent 2 hours on with increasing frustration, finished in under 30 seconds. Worked in the time it took me to say 'yes this isn't going to wor...' oh it has...
Great trick, worked like a charm (I was working on my Volvo and thought, "oh great, don't tell me I need a 'special tool' for a simple wiper arm?". Turns out, ya don't . Thank you so much.
I was almost 2 hours trying to remove the rear wiper from my Audi A3 from 2006, by putting tons of penetrating oil and wd40. Found your video and in 5 min I removed it. Thank you.
Changed my Estate rear wiper 5yrs ago with no problem, this time the arm is stuck on the spindle solid, so will try your method tomorrow. Hope I don't shatter the rear window, hugh!
Merci bcp grâce j'ai réussi a enlever mon bras d'essuie glace avec la 1er méthode, j'ai ramené la voiture dans 2 garage qui n'ont pas réussi a l'enlever encore merci
*Is incredible how people can help a lot without be in direct contact, thank you very much for your video I was struggling a bit and after seeing your video I finish in 2 minutes you save my day, I really appreciate your work*
I'm trying to remove the black plastic debris shield thing. Because after sitting 3 years my 2004 rusty jeep grand cherokee was invaded by mice, and squirrels which builr nests and also deposited they're nuts, leaves and packed it underneath. Plus all over the engine bay. So the wiper arms had to be removed in order to remove it and clean out the packed mouse house. So after 20 minutes of pb blaster and ready to HULK SMASH 💪 with my hammer I searched and thankfully found the solution. I even have the identical Irwing Vise Grips and hex bit. You made it simple and you prolly save a windshield too. Great idea and thanks for posting this. Perfect 👌 👍🏻
Thanks for that. following your video, have just used mole grips and a one pence piece to get my wipers off. What took most of the time was putting the plastic trim back on at the bottom of my windscreen after cleaning underneath it. There's a knack to that too.
Excellent, worked easily after a pry bar was to no avail despite having sprayed Free All on it first. Then put on a generous coating of anti-seize before putting it back together so it will be easier if I need to do it again. But one thing, you could have used a cheaper coin, those might be valuable.
this might work really well in your situation. unfortunately i couldn't fit the pliers on my wipers so i used some gun oil and a hammer and gave them a good tap and they came off very easily i just loosened the nut like you did applied some oil to the base of the bolt and it worked like a charm
On my two Dodge Rams, 2003 & 2004, there is a simple lever you pull out to release the wiper arm. No nuts or special tools required. However, your video was extremely helpful in working on my Girlfriends Ford Freestar van. Thank you. Funny thing was the nuts on her wipers were two different sizes, 15 and 17mm. What the heck?
Best tip!!! I was trying to remove my arms from a 2002 Sequoia and there is very little clearance around the arm to get underneath the arm with a wiper removal tool. Saw your video and the only change I made was using a pair of needle nose vice grips which barely fit to pop the arm since I have such small clearances. Thanks!!!
THANK YOU for this. I spent hours trying to do this when trying to change a motor. So frustrating. Tried using locking pliers and it popped off in seconds.
If they give you problems you can put a 12” pry bar right under the arm close to the fastener point and gently pry up then smack the top of the stud with a smallish ball peen hammer with the nut still on the top of the stud. Or you could clamp the top of the stud with the nut on it, (or put a coin on top to protect the nut) and the bottom edge of the arm with some licking pliers and smack on it like you did.

Same here, so simple and yet so effective!
@shawnstafford7809 Sometimes the nuts are covered with a plastic cap. What vehicle do you have ?
@shawnstafford7809 Wow nice car, lucky you ! 😎. I've rarely seen, let alone worked on a Firebird so I have no idea I'm afraid. I've only ever seen wiper arms fitted onto splined shafts and secured with nuts
@shawnstafford7809 Do the arms look like the ones in this video ?: ua-cam.com/video/Zcg3wU8dosw/v-deo.html
Looked at picture and immediately went to try it, worked same time.
Thanks for watching ! 👍
My car is 12 years old, and the wiper blades were never removed. I tried other methods but yours is the one that worked .... thx

Don't use any part of the glass for leverage !
If that doesn't work, I'd recommend trying a ball joint separator like this one: ua-cam.com/video/ZbvqnhrPNho/v-deo.html
I tried everything and this is the ONLY thing that worked. Thank you thank you
You're very welcome ! :)
Thanks mate, I'd been struggling with my rear wiper arm for a couple of days on and off. This method got it in one.

If they give you problems you can put a 12” pry bar right under the arm close to the fastener point and gently pry up then smack the top of the stud with a smallish ball peen hammer with the nut still on the top of the stud. Or you could clamp the top of the stud with the nut on it, (or put a coin on top to protect the nut) and the bottom edge of the arm with some licking pliers and smack on it like you did.

when you put it back together, just use like a mallet and pound it?
