What caused the Protestant Reformation?

The Protestant Reformation was sparked by Luther's posting of his 95 theses. But there is more to it than that. This video explains the role of the Black Death, Church Abuses, the Renaissance, and Technology like the printing press, in spreading Luther's ideas.

I think this video should be shown in schools. My schools (both university and high school) completely leave out the part of priests getting sick as a result of caring for the plagued. And that’s bad because when indulgences are taught it almost feels like there’s this hidden implication that Catholicism itself was the problem.

Let's take a closer look at Martin Luther. Following is a quote from convicted Nazi war criminal Julius Streicher, during the International Military Tribunal in Nurnberg, placing the blame on Martin Luther: “Anti-Semitic publications have existed in Germany for centuries. A book I had, written by Dr Martin Luther, was, for instance, confiscated. Dr Martin Luther would very probably sit in my place in the defendants’ dock today, if this book had been taken into consideration by the prosecution. In the book, “The Jews and Their Lies”, Dr Martin Luther writes that the Jews are a serpent’s brood and one should burn down their synagogues and destroy them…”

Yep, but you can't buy one. Nothing wrong with offering prayers for the dead. An indulgence is more or less the same. The problem wasn't the indulgence, it was the means of distribution.

Praying for the dead are clearly mentioned in the Old Testament. However, if you are using an altered version of the Bible with 7 missing books Mr. Matt Fyfield can't help you. God bless!
