- The Seastar aircraft is engineered to operate from runway and water surfaces. It can perform airport to airport missions with its short field take-off and landing capabilities. At the same time, it is able to take-off and land on water, even under rough conditions. This unrivalled versatility and performance along with best-in-class cabin space, allows for entirely new missions. In the spirit of pioneering Dornier flying boats, the Seastar is superior in every important measure - speed, range, safety, cabin size and lower maintenance costs.
Hopefully brings people back to sea-plane aviation!
Dornier, a pioneering seaplane manufacturer since the flying boat era
My original comment is gone. This Add has been my screen saver for 4 or 5 years, the most useful aircraft for sale today. Much love from JDS in AZ usa
but... you don't have any water :D
Classic Dornier with that push/pull engine. I immediately thought of the DO X.
I think its the children on do x unit
One of the best seaplane / flying boat videos I have seen.
It looks like a bigger, faster version of the Icon A5. A truly beautiful modern amphibious aircraft.
This German Aircraft Manufacturer way back in pre-war era who built early versions of Flying Boats, is now majority owned by a Chinese company, that is why its still around
Great video of a remarkable and unique plane, a true modern flying boat from a company with long and great heritage. Long live seaplanes!
Beautiful scenery, beautiful seaplane. What's not too like.
My god shes beautiful. Reminds me of a modern take on your Wal of days old.
It looks like a modern Do-18. It is typically Dornier in its styling.
I thought that it was a Do-18 when I saw the thumbnail.
Coincidence.....I THINK NOT!
Pretty much is a DO-18. Done in composite materials instead of wood.
Too bad they haven't got enough orders to go into production.
Actually it is going into production just will take a while before enough are built and delivered and the world needs more sea planes
Congratulations, Dornier, Please take a bow. Beautiful bird. Welcome back to the old way, "flying hull." Your roots if I'm not mistaken. We have missed you. Careful or she might loop ya on your landing. These flying fish are slippery when wet.
what a beautiful white bird it is!
The powerplant layout is interesting - less drag and if you lose an engine there's no assymetry. The design generally doesn't look too 'draggy' either with the sesquiplane arrangement. Great video!
You also have to consider the front engine's propeller is passing just behind the pilots head, so the noise level could be fairly high.
DO-335
@@Agislife1960 most twins have it behind the pilot except its next to them, straight into the ear, this will be no different
The Dornier isn't a sesquiplane, those are sponsons.
Great video of the Seastar. It's a really powerful and superiour amphibious aircraft. The video shows greatly it's incredible manuverability, superiour power and handling on both water and air. I'm happy with Dornier Seawings that they finally got the ultimate version of this unique concept of the 'father of all Flying-boats', Claude Dornier, updated in production. This combination of the fuselage with it's stabilizers, the NT wing, the powerful tandem engines and now the updated avionics just look RIGHT.
The most beautiful - if not sexiest - amphibious aircraft of all time!
I was actually pretty blown away at the rudder authority in the water due to its unique design. Few floating planes feel like speedboats in the water.
The lesser known but very advanced rigid ultralight glider RP-1 had the same wing shape, but the triangular wingtips were canted upward. 1979,Troy,NY (63kg, 1:18+)
Lovely and very similar, with that top mounted engine, to the WW2 Blohm & Voss BV 138.
Nice plane, beautiful view, perfect music
One of the more graceful designed flying boats, such a long lineage of beautiful aircraft from Dornier.
Such beautiful glorious machine. It's an absolute masterpiece. If I knew how to fly and I was super rich and had a choice of any non military or commercial passenger aircraft it would be a flying boat like this one
I wonder how many of these were made?
Wahnsinn tolle Arbeit bin so stolz auf Euch das Ihr es verwirklicht habt
Absolutely Magnificent
what a beauty...
beautiful
Pilot flies it like the worlds biggest jet-ski.
Indonesia is a big market for Electric Seaplane
16.377 islands
this kind of plane should be a standard transport for island nation such ours the philippines, you can see the beautiful view from above and take off directly on the beaches where you swim around and have fun (compare to airplanes that you must travel by land to get to airport and travel by land again to get to the beach). this seaplane is also useful in the military operations perhaps in the Marines, securing island to island patrols.
Beautiful!
Que bonita combinación de imagenes y música! 🤗
nice design looks very powerful
nice aircraft in a nice video
WOW.......I WANT ONE,,GOOD CHANNEL GOOD SHOW
Beautiful
Now make a Dornier 335 styled push-pull private turboprop.
that would be perfect for the MAT!
Herrliches Flugboot.
What a beautiful aircraft. It's like a baby PBY before it's engines separate lol.
lol
We've had the Do-24 ATT at EAA once, let's see a Seastar at the Seaplane Base at Oshkosh '21!
So Beautifully Functional!🌐🕊️
What an awesome bird ..I want two ❤🇿🇦 well done
To me the best seaplane . If i own this i can use as a camper fly to lakes or rivers
Superb
love those wings mm
Coool Doble propoler pull and push nice very nice inovation👏👏👏
"Innovation"? Look up the Dornier Wal. They have been doing it for 80 years.
@@jlsperling1 Its a innovation because its a massive update.
Muhteşem bir uçak olmuş. 👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏🧿🧿🧿
hopefully this seaplane blueprint design more brightly* and up to date* on specific custom required- modification.
Imagine how it fly over my local archipelago islands & rivers, locate name as #Nusantara.
Красавец! Хочу такой.
Why only 2 were built. What prevented this from being a commercial success ?
truly want to be in one of these..! is there any used available yet?
Wow, this would pay for itself in a Year In New Zealand
Nice.
Olá amigo bom dia olha o dornier estrela do mar é simplesmente fantástico é de mais gostaria de ter um mais é só pra milionário ok abraço ok
I'd love to see what Dornier and ShinMaywa could come up with if they put their heads together. With Dornier's revolutionary use of carbon fiber and boat mechanics in addition to ShinMaywa's use of engineering and electronic feats, that's be one hell of a seaplane. Just make it big enough to carry cargo please.
Its Maiden has been 1984 and its still a very capable design what this Plane needs is a Update/Polish/Modernisation.
Are you going to be at Biscarrosse 2018?
Wow straight from do 18
Does anyone know the title of the background music? Been searching for this soundtrack for years. Appreciate your assistance. thanks
A very small version of the original DOX
Video shootings are great than aircraft
Красотища!
Challenge the Bermuda triangle of your technology
Ideal for amazonic region, where is amazon river, and afluents. I don't know why the regional airways never bought this type of airplane. The population has to use boats that makes trips of 12h, cause there aren't airports near the rivers.
Pedro Tavares Nicodemos Filho because it costs $6m
or Canada
Or a downsized version of the original Wal in composites.
Actually, several of them did in the 1920s. This aircraft's granddaddy, the Dornier Wal.
@@jamieclumpas85456M ! Really ? For comparison a pby catalina (much larger seaplane, with floats that retract, and which is very well known, therefore very popular with collectors) can be found around $ 750,000.
This aircraft is certainly much more modern but with a much smaller field of action, less carrying capacity (i.e. much less cabin space) ...
I do not see it exceed the million ...
Where is it today in september 2020?
In production?
Sponson stability so you can forget about burying an outboard wing float and makes for easy walk on boarding. What's not to like about that design?
A beautiful aircraft; a little ackward- looking but still nice.!
It kinda reminds me ps 26
Cus the creator of TFS said that it took inspiration from the seastar and Piaggio p.136
😍
Pls make this model also in India, and i hope to visit some lake (Dal Lake) in this aircraft
Eliminate, combine and simplify. The key rules for product improvement. However the structure connecting the fuselage with the wing and engines looks out of place.
Iguana
How sad is it that I saw this plane over 30 years ago at AERO and it's still not in production?
I know the market would be relatively small, but you’d think there would be a great market in the Islands.
To bad we couldn't hear the plane.
it is unfortunate that you cannot hitch a trailer to that thing .
👍👍👍
I want the same...
take a look at the Do J from the 1920 then the Wal of the 30s see the family line
Did this dream die or make production?
its alive! check the latest news about it :)
18 passengers right?
... This is Deutscheland. Two wing-guarded pontoons are unneeded.
DORNIER WAL 2.0
Is this made in India?
No
No, it flies...
@@maxx9384 Oh, that was bad! Lol
Germany
Rad!
if you have 5 or 6 million laying around
DO !!!!!!!!!
Iwannit
Big HYOOJ $$ tho...⁉️
That music is literally unnecessary. Loud and annoying.
A beautiful airplane to be sure, but based upon what is shown in this video it is not amphibious. It is a seaplane.
i can assure you that is is an amphibious aircraft! (flying boat)
Wrong
@@heldermartins4855 This video does not show any evidence of any landing gear (wheels) on this aircraft. However, I did search and find some photos of this plane on dry land with it's wheels visible. You are correct. This is an amphibious aircraft.
@@1moredayof I know because I work on this project!
Best regards
Looks like Porco Russo's seaplane in steroids.
This is SOOOO outdated. Waste of money. Not advanced at all. Sorry, they are still in the 1930s. The hull is all wrong. It cannot land on all surfaces and is not roadable. Where do they get the money to do this nonsense???? More dollars than sense.
No, don't work for ICON. I did do airbags for most European and big three...also sensors.... Mercedes had (at the time) the worst "crash pulse" (accelerations that transmit into the body where the occupant is) on the market. They built them like tanks and the extra weight and strength made them relatively more safe due to the mass ratios advantage at the expense of the other car. I also worked for and at Porsche who did the integration. I speak German, worked in Zuffenhausen in Motorenbau when they were doing the Mooney engine (which failed big time)....minored in German in College, so I know a little about Germans (dated one) and such from real interactions. Last, but not least, I have a much better design that solves the problems this and others like it have. I can go into detail about why my original statement is correct if you like. Yes, I am an Mechanical Engineer. BTW, the ICON in worse than a Dornier (S-ray -007). The designer of the ICON killed himself...very predictable when you know the inside scoop like I do. I wrote them many times and commented on why they can't do it as they do, but they won't listen...even now after the main guy killed himself, which shows the design is invalid.
The future is with roadable seaplanes that can land on water, snow, ice (lakes that are partially frozen...), can land on road and takeoff without stopping, as well as drive down the road. Also, they have distributed power for power on lift (see x-57) , 4 times crash protection over car (no, airbags won't work due to mass ratios), and totally new gear that allows one to land on all surfaces without changing out equipment. The gear allow one to drive up muddy beaches or surf in and onto waves. Dornier hints at this but does not have a design that remotely is good enough.
The should be able to takeoff where it is dry, like a road, land on snow in high mountain, or on lake, or rough field. etc. It has to be able to land on the sloped beach, which a taildragger or tri gear cannot do without ground looping when the slope is steep. The airplane must be able to have a parachute and not destroy it like a Cirrus.
There are over 30 things that are needed to make a valid advancement similar to land telephone to cell phone. The airplane MUST be door to door (connectivity) and cannot be single engine or risky with two engine like most light twins. The Dorneir is outdated. Just a fact.
seaplaneguy I trust you, you are an engineer.
so much blah blah blah and so much bluffing, for a moment i thought that was Clark Kent aka Superman writing, actually you can say that you was on the moon, and maybe no fact, like about your "Dornier is outdated" is NOT A FACT, there a a lot of actualizations for aircrafts that was made and use since decades ago that you say like "seaplaneguy copyright ideas", c mon
and what about if something is in the 30`? very cool by the way, super style, old times always was better than today, at less, in that times still things was made without programed obsolecency, anyway this plane is super cool
and look like you dont read the video description, we can read:
"The Seastar aircraft is engineered to operate from runway and water surfaces. It can perform airport to airport missions with its short field take-off and landing capabilities. At the same time, it is able to take-off and land on water, even under rough conditions. This unrivalled versatility and performance along with best-in-class cabin space, allows for entirely new missions. clearly this aircraft is not like you say
Pitiful video! Nobody comes here to hear elevator music!
very plastic and toyish looking :/ Is there really not a single person at Dornier who understands that modernized
Do J Wal made out of real aircraft material like aluminium, would be head and shoulders above this plastic toy in performance and flying characteristics?!?
I don't see you with any type of engineering job designing airplanes.
that's ok man, just stick to seeing things at earth level ;)
Dannie Pushkin
How do you know what it's made of? This company has been making flying boats for more that 80 years and the guy who started the company designed float planes that were used in ww 1. I'm betting the people in that company know more about flying boats than you ever will.
@@brianjordan2192, i think the future and present from aircrafts and some more other things are composites materials, so...
Aluminum hulled flying boats always suffer from leakage and need pumps to get the water out. The stress of the water landings will, in time, pop even the most tightly riveted seams open enough to start letting water in. You have to take them out of the water every so often and spray the hull down with fresh water to fight corrosion, and periodically replace popped rivets, reseal the sprung seams, etc. and this means high maintenance costs compared to a land plane. It's one reason seaplanes aren't really a thing anymore, apart from very small private aircraft -- which these days are ALSO made from composite materials. A one piece, corrosion-proof, composite bottom avoids all that extra maintenace to keep it watertight, and will bring those costs way down. I think Dornier know what they're doing better than you.
Beautiful
