- The Be-200 was created on the basis of the scientific and technical backlog obtained during the implementation of the A-40 Albatros anti-submarine amphibious aircraft program. This made it possible to obtain high flight and seaworthiness characteristics on a new machine with significantly reduced development time and material costs due to the almost complete exclusion of experimental work in hydrodynamics and a sharp decrease in the volume of work in aerodynamics.

At one point in time there was an effort to assemble the plane at Centennial airport in Denver for use as a water bomber for fire fighting. I wonder who and how that effort was sabotaged. Canada builds the CL series of dedicated water bombers and sells a lot of them . How stupid is american buisness that they cannot mount an effort to build a better plane to fight forest fires , damn we are a stupid shortsighted greedy country led by government and buisness men and bankers that only think about lining their own pockets rathet then doing what is best for this country .
