- The UA-cam comment dislike button wasn't always this way. It was messed up! Really badly! By Google Plus!
UA-cam comments can be rated with a like or dislike. But the two buttons do not exhibit the same behavior.
The comment like button basically works just like the video like button - you click on it, it gets highlighted, and its counter increases by a value of one.
However when you click the dislike button, it gets highlighted, and that's pretty much it! From a user perspective, it practically does nothing!
In this video we explore the most probable reason why this is so.

Next question: why can't be comments sorted by "Oldest First"? There's only "Newest first" and "Top comments" option. I would love to see the very first comment on the very first video (Me at the zoo).
Because the comment section would be filled with nothing but people saying "First"

3:05 the good old days when youtube would listen to user feedback. Now, they remove dislikes and despite user feedback, they do nothing about it.
Yeah, it’s probably part of a socialist plan. If a company gets so big, then user feedback is irrelevant and they can still do whatever they want. Money keeps them relevant. There's no way to counter this unless there is a competitor, but even that is highly improbable. Either they buy you out or will throw every resource they have into discrediting your platform. If you're not wealthy, then forget about making a change with "user feedback".

The dislike button does nothing for comments. A youtuber named Mattshea tested it and it doesn't affect the ranking or value for comment dislikes. It's a placebo. It's useless.

It's due to comment being chached at CDN's. Comments, likes, views don't appear instantly and may take several minutes to update/showup on other people's screens.

Yeah, the current system is totally idiotic. The way it worked before Google+ integration was PERFECT. Crappy/stupid/hateful comments would get hundreds of dislikes and get burried. Now a hateful comment could get 30 likes and 1000 dislikes but all you see is the 30 likes, creating an illusion that people actually agree with the comment. I wish they would change it back, but we all know that's never going to happen. UA-cam seems to be hell bent on giving users fewer and fewer options to express disapproval (which is why they are also considering removing the option of disliking videos - another TERRIBLE idea which will probably get implemented at some point in the near future).

The comment dislike button doing nothing has never stopped being such an annoying change that I wished would be fixed, but instaed we now live when UA-cam has removed dislikes even on videos simply to save face. Man, it'd be a shame if someone put a REALLY hurtful comment or video, and all you'll see are the people that like it
There is a fix for that, if you have a browser that support the add-on. Currently, 2.7K have disliked this video.
And you can dislike a comment but if you check it later, the dislike is gone. In all my years on youtube I have never yet seen a comment dislike button highlighted (except when I click it myself). And omg was G+ a total stuff-up or what!
We ought to just stop using the like button altogether and see how UA-cam likes that.

If it doesn't affect directly and effectively their interests, they will just see it as part of the process of community adaptation.
@@lucasl115 Sadly, you're probably right. Short of actually leaving the site (which viewers won't do unless the major creators do), I doubt anything would sway them. That, or major corporate interests (which seems to be the prevailing theory on why this change was implemented in the first place, considering the creators and viewers seem to be unanimously against it).

According to a video by Film Booth it does do something maybe. It lowers the comment when filtering by top comments. No idea if it's true but there are higher rated comments below lower rated comments all the time.. On my screen i'm seeing Freelancer837 with 8 at #1 Samuel Lee at #2 with 47 and 6 weeks ago at #3 with 23.

Well, I’m from the middle of the country, the literal middle, the Native American state. And we say “root” four route. But our country is so massive, so diverse, some people say “rowt”. An iconic American song, Route 66, says it the way I say it. I imagine in the north east they use the version you are speaking of. Just a little clarification if you get this notification! ;)

Flagging only tells UA-cam that a video or comment needs to be moderated because it may contain potentially harmful content, but it’s up to UA-cam whether they act on it or not, leaving all control over what content is available on their platform to them. Though it’s not my intention to start a debate on the future of their company, I just find it fascinating that this is the direction that UA-cam is considering pursuing.
You can have an opinion but the issue is the people who dislike with the sole purpose of bringing down the UA-camr or to be obnoxious. Because why are you even watching something about a topic you dislike to begin with? So many people purposefully go on a Gaming video (for example) for a game they hate just to trash it.

UA-cam comment system sucks royally. Not enough filtering, dislike button is useless, crashes etc.

the dislike counter button was a extremely valuable way to screen out garbage "educational" material. for example say machining or blacksmithing.
without it i can tell you from personal experience that theres been a lot of stupidly dangeous trash being taught in thise respective fields.
the REAL reason they deleted the counter was political. we all know it. and it was a dick move. luckily theres plugins available that restores the count.
