Over the years, the UA-cam layout has changed a lot.
When you compare UA-cam today and the UA-cam from the old days, you can really see a big difference.
As the platform evolved, from year to year we would see a variety of new features, options and policies.
But we would also witness many features disappear!
UA-cam has no trouble getting rid of features and options they feel are no longer needed, and next on the list will be their inbuilt video editor as well as Photo Slideshows which will soon join other discontinued features like branding intros, video responses, annotations, groups, honors...
So in this video, we'll take a quick trip down UA-cam's memory lane.

-Vid Editor
-Snake Game
-Complete banner for channels (side banners)
-other things the video mentioned
I actually remember the annotations on the screen from one of my classes.
I was in P1 (meaning i was 5 at the time) and we used UA-cam for a task. We watched a vid and the annotations were EVERYWHERE on screen lol
The video editor kind of sucked ass though...
Oh god, if you were around back in 2010 or before, every youtube page was customizable, and I remember having my channel literally be red colored, blue colored for the text so people can read it, the yellow subscribe button, and even columns that you can section off channels you wish for people to check out, your video content at the top, and even statistics on the left side of your channel like the total amont of page visits, what number you're currently at in terms of popularity, favorites, likes, dislikes, etc. Nowadays, they all hide it behind the creator's account, and it's completely bonkers that UA-cam has to look like shit nowadays compared to 15 years ago.
You know what I miss "Favorites", it was kinda reduntant with Likes, but I still miss it.
It wasn't very redundant. I used to use Favorites to add exceptional videos and Like videos that deserve it. Now I very rarely click the Like button to save exceptional videos. I almost never press it.
Favorites is still here, what do you mean?
@@JJRicks there used to be a button for it specifically, now it's just a playlist.
@@70sman ah, that makes sense
Watch later, i believe used to be a special playlist with a special button as well
I hate endcards =/ they usually show up when stuff's still happening and you can't hide them >.
UA-cam should add an outro feature, which can be applied channel wide that can use end cards (either per video or channel wide). Heck, they can even give you some basic outro templates...
Yes you can. Use Opera.
@@mixderman2461 No, don't
endcards could be used for interactive stories in case whenever you need to pick a choice

Back when UA-cam felt like something more than a video sharing site, it felt like a community. I met so many people thanks to UA-cam because of the way it was before, it encouraged socializing way more than it does now.
Very True!
pikachu896 Google plus bruh, its all her fault.
We can't even message now, it's complete crap :(
I guess that's why youtube's biggest videos back then were not music videos.
Same I actually made some friends with being able to message another youtuber, I don't know why they got rid of that
Does anyone remember back in the day when you can play snake in youtube while the video was buffering???
DrkWrior Remember back when slow internet was so common that videos actually buffered? xD
yeah 😂😂😂
Jake1702 my Internet is super slow, so this is a reality for me.
And the "1983" minigame too!
last time i checked, they still have this feature
Wait... They... Removed annotations? How are people going to make youtube games now?
Strange! I am just now finding this out! I hope that add some feature to their recently added feature "cards" I don't see how this will work to add info to specific scenes. It floors me how it feels like technology / software development is going backwards!
SpiderBite Studios I guess they will have to edit them into the video it self
yeah
ohh they can make 1 video public and the rest unlisted and use tons of end screens and cards and playlists and bla bla bla then done
Mocha exactly what stampylonghead did.
holy shit the groups bit brought back memories long forgotten

Oh hey it's Cyranek
I miss the ability to disable autoplay on playlists.
ColonelTheSlav At least have it like normal videos. A timer that pauses when you scroll down so that you can actually READ COMMENTS.
install magic actions for youtube. few minutes of tweaking and your experience will be 100x better
Yes. That was gone about a year or two ago. Pisses me off.
Wait, that was a thing?
Why would they ever remove that?
One of the worst features of that is when you're trying to write a comment, and suddenly FLIP! You're into the next video, and can't go back to finish your comment because it's not there any more.
In a nutshell: Remember when youtube actually had features?
Yeah and it wasn't just a fucking algorithm....
I miss the old UA-cam. It was more personal back then.
UA-cam is no longer personal
I miss old UA-cam too, but you know what ruined it? Us. We ruined UA-cam. If we didn't act like assholes, most of the features noted in this video would still be in the site.
and this is why annotations were removed ua-cam.com/video/4ziTr315S7c/v-deo.html
@@tnfsg1866 susan whatshername & stupid google ruined it
@@tnfsg1866 I would hate to say this, but once Google bought out UA-cam for millions of dollars, the site never became the same again. Believe it or not, youtube started to go down the drain as EARLY AS 2009. The joke we would call it back then was "Themtube" or as I like to call it "It's no longer youtube or broadcast yourself, it's now theirtube or they broadcast themselves." I noticed that as early as June 2009, and I was furious as much as you are. That type of UA-cam drama unfortunately didn't come around until 2014/2015.
I missed the 2012-13 layout the most. The old black progress bar under the video and the round time marker just looked better.
Annotations were phenomenal. They allowed for users to correct mistakes or add footnotes regarding stuff that was left out in the editing process. You could also do a ton of creative stuff like create interactive videos that linked to other videos.
Actar Raikit I deffinetly miss the days of old Interactive Adventures.
Yeah, some people still make them. But when you have to use links in the description for those, it's just not the same.
And annotations did get a lot of creative use.
One video that really impressed me back in the day was "Let's Play Wario Land 3 22: Silent Wario"
I'm uploading my playthrough of a game, and I read everything to indulge in the lore and story. I used annotations to skip the lengthy lore bits for those who just want to see me die, without breaking the order of events or flow.
After 2 episodes, Annotations were removed. Now I lump all that lore stuff to the end for those that want it. most people probably don't want to see me read and talk out trying to make sense of it, so I guess it's better this way.
Anyways, it would have been nice to just add mobile support than remove the feature. That way if you have a long segmented video, and your viewer is looking for certain chapters, you don't have to make 20 short ones, or count on them to check the video description for timestamps.
Annotation on mobile would be night mare... how do you commonly pause your video... you just tap anywhere... as in anywhere an annotation could possible appear with a link
A possible solution would be when you tap, the video pauses, and if there's a link it asks if you want to follow said link.
Soumein, can't you also just edit text into the video itself? It's less convenient compared to annotations, but it seems like a better option.
I remember when people would cover half the video with annotations
Ah, yes, those videos that had a giant annotation talking about how outdated the video's info is or those big "SUBSCRIBE!" annotations... Annotations were great and should've been brought to mobile rather than removed, but those subscribe ones going away? Only good part.
I remember being annoyed in that times and forced me to watch on mobile. I was stupid back then and I didn't know that annotations toggle was a thing.
also, I remember the useless Messages feature that looks like instagram rip-off.
Removing the video editor and annotation editor was a really stupid move, they could've just made annotations mobile compatible, What I hate is the fact that they removed the messages feature, I wish endscreens had it.
AAandAG I'm fine with them removing video editor and annotation. Video editor was complete garbage and annotations barely get used nowadays because of cards and end screens.
BʘʘmBang I did use the editor quite a bit due to my computer being locked and myself being too inept to pay for a true editor to use. So the youtube editor even though limiting allowed me to create videos for my channel and make content I could be semi proud of.
I missed the messages feature. I remember people messaging me because they disagree with me and we fought over messages. Too bad I can't read them anymore out of entertainment
annotations weren't only used to link to other videos like modern cards are. They were more often used to edit a mistake or add extra information.
Another problem with annotations is that videos can abuse it and put annotations to trick you into clicking links when you just wanted to pause.
A feature I miss is the notifications of when people comment on my comments, I don’t want to be notified by email. I miss UA-cam’s customizable break grounds
i still get notified, but like if anyone else replies to you now, ill get a notification for it, theres no way for someone to reply to just me anymore
mellow m type the name past people
4:00 "I'll get you more views"
That person made pewdiepie famous
Anybody else have an issue where sometimes long comments don't have the "read more" button on them, which leads to just having unfinished comments that get cut mid-sentence, or jokes with lots of space in between the question and the punchline, but there's no punchline?
so true, but i think i found a way that works for me around it - just reload the page and go to that same comment then you should have read more for all of the comments that should have had it but didnt.
Yeah I just open the comment on a new tab by clicking my scrollwheel on the date of the comment.
That happens to me sometimes. And other times some comment's replies won't load either. I see Spirit Dorkrai mentioned reloading the page, but it'll be a pain in the ass scrolling through all those comments again. Unless the comment was closer to the top.
Instead of reloading the page, scroll down, hit 'show more' and scroll back up. Once more comments load the 'read more' button will appear.
I've only had that happen on mobile.
I miss a lot of these, especially annotations. I have a hard time believing that a huge company like Google couldn't figure out a way to make annotations display on phones. Cards and end screens are nice, but they can't do everything that annotations could.
UA-cam's messaging used to be big. Or least in felt that way for me, when comment fights got to messy I always ended going to war in my inbox.
That's why this crap site got popular to begin with all the comment sect wars and I just now remember you could message youtubers O god I now remember messenger people to play with me on xbox live.
Removal of groups and private messaging really destroyed UA-cam's community aspect. Big tech's plan is to gentrify the internet so much we could be integrated with Chinese internet, where their users are also quietly rebelling.
back when being the only last few channels that still have an animated gif icon actually draw attention to new users who keep asking how does one upload an animated gif user icon.... I was among the last few channels to hold onto a gif user icon before it finally stop animating (when google+ got integrated)
I never knew verified people can't get a single like in 3 three years

remember the dislike button on comments had a function.
Also miss when you could sort videos on date and viewcount. Not just the "most popular right now" or what is posted in less than a month. It allowed viewers to search for videos nobody was watching for the past few years and gave everything a chance to be viewed.
i thought since stupid fucking google+ shut down in 2019 u could use it again :( why the hell cant susan whatshername just go already? she & stupid fucking google ruined it
Remember when a comment got extremely disliked, and UA-cam had a feature where it said "This comment has received a lot of negative votes," or something like that, and then you could see the comment if you click "show comment?" I remember that. I also remember when it actually said what the top comment was, and it displayed it above all the other comments.
+tyler225905 I remember seeing that when I was 8 or 9, lol
I honestly really miss that feature.
Yeah, the problem with both of these is the comments section would become an echo chamber for the most popular opinions on a video.
what? it existed?
Yup I remember that and I miss it
does disliking a comment actually do anything anymore? Because if you dislike a comment the amout of likes stays the same and obviously negative likes/lots of negative votes don't exists anymore :/
*Next feature to be removed*
*Subscribers*
Considering how broken the system has been recently, it wouldn't surprise me if it actually got removed eventually.
Yeah not to meniton to may people sub to channles and either don't watch them, stop watching them, OR, just stop watching UA-cam. So alot of people actually end up with empty subs in their sub count. Really subs don't mean anything and only views and watch time can tell how well a channel is really doing.
I give this comment five stars * * * * *
Who here hates the new update, it looks like fucking android
This is probably legit, since they don't deliver all your videos and will only send notifications..IF you click the bell AND change the settings.
I wish they brought back Custom Channel Layouts. I am a highly creative person.
I am not, but I loved seeing some really creative channel art. Good times
Right, "I am a highly creative person"
Google would never do that because they only care about money and deleteing Nazi history because it is "offensive" to learn about the past and right now banning freedom of speech.
Please, no. I don't want flashbacks of ugly Myspace user pages.
You can use some apis and your website to behave as your channel home page with custom things while keeping the original channel in its place
I miss the view counter most of all. I must have watched hundreds of thousands of videos since 2008...
There was another scrapped feature called UA-cam Streams. It's not the kind we have now where you can stream live video from your computer, but the kind where people can join a "stream", watch UA-cam videos together, and talk with each other in a text-based chat room. A third-party alternative exists to serve the same functions, but I still remember all those things UA-cam got rid of... I miss the old days.
Kugee Oh, I though that was in UA-cam... I was right. Now we must use Dubtrack or Plug.dj
You actually can still do this in a group hangout call.
UA-cam logic 2017:

CHM Tech does....
Does that actually exist...
Fidget spinner buffering.. that would actually be a really good idea lol

The youtube video editor is alright if all you need is like one or two basic edit... as in if your someone who only uses youtube for home videos.
Kostas123GR2 NO ITS FUCKING NOT
The one feature that I really miss is was the ability to organize my subscribed channels into category folders. That was super useful as I'm subscribed to a few hundred channels. It was really nice to have that kind of organization. I had a folder for "Minecraft UA-camrs", a folder for "Comedy UA-camrs", a folder for "Documentary Channels", etc.. That was so useful. Then, one day, I signed in and was greeted by my UA-cam page changed and all my hundreds of subscribed channels just in this big, long, unorganized, mess of a list just spewed down the side of the page, and my nice, organized 20 or so classification folders were gone. I was so mad when they did that.
It's sad how UA-cam started out as an alternative to oppressive television, but now it's slowly _becoming_ oppressive television.
The branding option was actually not removed because people prefer to use their intros in the videos themselves. That was their weak public reason. In fact they stopped it because people were selling it as ad space, and youtube didn't want the creators to have that kind of power.

You missed one. How the video loaded.
Back in the early days of UA-cam, the stream would load entirely, even when paused and could be navigated through lag free. Now it only loads the bit it's watching and any scrolling resets it. While this saves on memory, this is a pain in the ass for anyone with a slow connection as you can no longer pause the video, go take a shit, and come back when it was fully loaded.
One feature I hate is how the menu bar is now hidden. This fucking trend is web-wide, but it's an unnecessary gain of empty real estate on your screen which now forces the user to do more clicks to access the same link they used to have right on top of their screen.
also the fighit spinner loading screen
That's probably because bandwidth is expensive and UA-cam doesn't want to block users bandwidth until the video is loaded. Maybe a toggle switch would be an option.
@@perfectpup3444 i remember that
The last part you mentioned, the menu bar. What do you mean by that one?
Just to be clear: Annotations didn't work on the _official_ UA-cam app.
There were plenty of "off-brand" apps that supported annotations just fine.
What we really needed was a limit per frame or per second on how many a annotations you could have.
That, or just allow users to report abuses.
Oh. So that's why I don't see annotations anymore.
This video was painfully nostalgic
I feel like I've missed out on so much...
Remember when they added a joke feature that converted the video into motion text? The way ASCII art works but it did it to any video in real time?
I don't really like the cards, it blocks the screen before the video even ended. At least you could turn off annotations.
That's when they are used incorrectly or slapped onto a video not made for them. Really, the last 20 seconds should just be a still background or generic video when the End Screen comes up.
People: Annotations don’t work on mobile. Pls fix.
UA-cam: Absolutely! (Removes annotations)
People: wtf UA-cam.
I miss the ability to have channel types. This typed your channel based on whether you were a comedian, musician, and so on. The coolest one was director, and it was limited to certain creators at one point, allowing them to upload longer form videos (back then, this was something like 15 min max IIRC).
Hello from the future!
Oh yeah, before that, it waes 10 minutes until they extended it to 15 minutes in 2011/2012, and then decided to make it 12 hours later on as UA-cam introduced streaming in 2012/2013.
I miss the green and red thumbs
Colorblind people. It would be better if they used red and blue they are easy to tell apart
Pixie Panda Plush no such thing

same
The lightsaber
I remember when the internet was bad and the video froze, you could play a more difficult version of the snake game by pressing arrow up. Now the volume increases. In the old days I used to freeze videos on purpose just to play a game or two before actually watching.
UA-cam also used to show a lot of your subscribed channels' activity. What videos they liked, commented on, even who they recently subscribed to. I found some UA-cam channels I really liked because of that feature, it was just cool to see what your subbed channels were into. I don't know why they got rid of that, it only helps drive traffic to more channels.
as chaotic as it all was, I will forever miss the old UA-cam...The things listed in this video are what made me love the website back in 2007 and allowed me to continue to love it until the whole google plus merger. The ability to customize your own background, add friends, make an awesome sidebar, and even -- if you were a real youtube "partner" at that time -- the custom artwork you could display next to and above your video on the player page. Those good old days are long gone and they'll always hold a place in my heart
I would kill to go back to UA-cam 2011. Best layout, best content, no drama. It was a simpler time back then.
GreenCladElfBoy Reply girls would be back, are you sure?
Hell of a lot better than the fake scam bots I see on every video
And the content was much better.
The community was much better. Keemstar wasn't around so that automatically is an up.
Agree!
*Number One:* "Good content."
>besides the fact that people would overuse them (annotations)
but the absolute best part of youtube was when someone would make a dumb video and share the add annotations link and it would become absolute ebola
i loved that
also I fail to see how 301 was ever really considered a feature
Meh, 301 wasn't a feature, it was just so noticable by anyone that it kinda became a meme.
Surprised you didn't talk about it, but there was once a little drop-down bar that you could use to basically browse your subscriptions and recommended videos, along with videos from the channel you're watching without ever leaving the video.
huh? i only remember that being on mobile but im sure its still on there.
Spirit Dorkrai not anymore
huh. have i been living under a rock?
Spirit Dorkrai maybe you're thinking of the video notification thing
I remember that. Ish. You had to click on your profile icon. They were really quiet about that for some wierd reason.
Google shouldn't have bought UA-cam... Actually the original owner of youtube shouldn't have sold this masterpiece, now in flames.
Google has pretty much always owned UA-cam. They bought it like a year after it was founded.
Also UA-cam wouldn't be as successful as it was today if Google didn't step in.
+JackShack how so do you think? UA-cam was already worth a fortune when google bought it, and it wasn't even too long since it was funded...
+Tom Post did you just pull that out of your ass or do you actually have a source? UA-cam already had enough money to buy more servers by then if they actually needed more storage.
shalol Honestly I'm not sure if UA-cam would even _work_ if Google hadn't bought it. With the amount of content being streamed from the platform every second, UA-cam needs some serious infrastructure, probably more than any other website in the world (except maybe Facebook). While UA-cam could have conceivably built this infrastructure on their own, it would have probably been out of their budget. Otherwise, they would have needed to rent storage and server farms from other companies, which is expensive as well.
To me, the reason for removing the 5 star rating is total B.S., since they've removed the numbers for the dislike button. Constructive criticism and feedback like that old rating system has been overruled in favor of turning us into a hive mind to weed out people they don't want around on this platform. There were plenty of videos rated between 2 and 4 stars, it was genuine and gave people an idea of where they needed improvement in their content.
ahh, anyone remember the snake game that you could play when the video was loading?
i was cursed with the gift of internet speed also which years is it on
Another feature that disappeared was "Favorites".
Didn't videos also used to have tags?
Notifications that worked properly is another feature that disappeared!
I can currently see 9 comments to this video, plus 1 reply to a comment, and UA-cam is reporting that there are 3 comments. A simple example of why we can trust numbers on this platform...
Tags still exist, but you can't see them anymore without browser extensions like SocialBlade and VidIQ. I'm pretty sure favorites is now an auto-generated playlist when you create your youtube channel, but I'm not sure. I still have my favorites playlist.
Tags were useless in practice, admittedly. I had to change accounts at one point, so it may be on my old account the Favorites were converted to a playlist. Creating a manual playlist for my current account was no great effort, but it seems an odd feature to remove. But I gave up on the illusion that Google was interested in improving usabiity a long time ago!
Do you mean the ability to add videos to a playlist named "Favorites" that exists by default? That actually still exists.
Tags, yeah those exist too and can still be added to videos, however because of massive tag abuse, aka people using clickbait tags to get their videos displayed as suggested video on popular youtube videos, tags have been nerfed down and are no where near as significant when it comes to a video being displayed on your sidebar.
Actually, I used to find the opposite problem with tags: they would usually be so vague as to be completely useless. For example, a music video would have something like "Music" as a tag, as opposed to a genre or (say) "Independent singer-songwriter". Granted, those wouldn't be of much more use now with so many videos on here. It is like trying to find a needle in a haystack on here at times...
Andrew Gwilliam You can still add tags on your videos you know.
I would like to add that UA-cam used to enable GIF background or profile icon...ah memories
I remember CaptainSparklez did that once lol
I actually still see those once in a blue moon, not sure how they're doing it though
William Proto People that still have them just haven't changed their profile picture and/or banner since they were able to do so.
+BinaryClash Stop it!!! You don't know anything about anything, loser...!
+BinaryClash I'm serious...!! don't make me... cry
Was watching an old video recently (early Veritasium, if I remember correctly) and he was talking about loving all the creative video responses and the nostalgia hit me like a truck. I really feel like in the drive to make more money from UA-cam and to be "simpler", and have a less complicated interface, they lost the aspect of the UA-cam community BEING a community. I know there are probably fairly valid reasons for removing things like video responses, or annotations... but, I still miss them, and the feeling of truly being connected to the other people on here, that they contributed to.
I know it's unlikely to ever return, but I do wish UA-cam still had that capacity for closeness between users, creators, and all people. :/
I just needed this video to prove to myself that video responses were a real thing and not just a dream I had 😂 thank you!
I miss old youtube

Same! 😢😭

i just want to know why doesnt the dislike button work on comments
It does
rebane2001 how??
rebane2001 No it doesn't
Stan It is used for spam filtering. The like button is equal to a Google+ +1.
But the dislike button doesn't reduce the Like rating by 1. I'd call it a placebo effect, but it doesn't even pretend to have an effect.
How could you forget youtube private messages!!!!! That was like 10 times better for having a one to one discussion before patreon and discord.
Dude, your videos really help me focus. I like to listen to your videos when I'm drawing, since, there's really not much to look at. You really help. I subscribed, and turned on the bell. Thanks man, you're the best.
Likes and dislikes aren't even used as a rating anymore. A like is basically supporting a UA-camr, and dislikes are for videos that you hate or piss you off, or if it is from a UA-camr you hate.
yeah, people like videos before they even watch them
Ozumsauce Some people are so petty that they'll turn on notifications just to dislike a video the very second that it comes out.
Gotta love people.
I actually use the dislike button to dislike a clickbait video and the like button to like all of my favorite youtuber's videos

*You all made my day!*
You missed that UA-cam let people have .GIF in their thumbnail, channel arts and channel icons.
wentaas GIF! WhY???!!!! Google, stop be like Apple
Actually you still can through 3rd party applications
People have commented that my avatar shows up as a GIF on some devices because I haven't added a new one since the change.
Also, channel cover art can be a GIF.
It's good that this feature is gone. It's like clickbait but 1000 times worse.
EDIT: To explain why I think this is bad,....well...people would abuse it to make their content look more important than other videos, forcing everyone to use Gifs or their videos wouldn't be noticed anymore
eh... no... I mean I may be a stickler because i have a mild interesting in graphics design but that kind of things usually let's to people uploading really tacky looking gifs and thumbnails.
I miss direct messages
And the drop down of videos from the same channel
And the ability to actually view how many likes/dislikes a comment has
And being able to tell one trillion video notifications apart from replies
And a sidebar that frees up room for the comments
Also customizable subscribe buttons
Comments cannot be disliked since maybe 2015. I have no idea why they still keep the button.
Inbox on Mobile: Friends (With Groups) and Notifications
Chat/Messages on PC.
DMs are still on mobile
I'm a simple man.
I hear squarespace ad, I skip 10 seconds.
This is all probably just Google's inevitable intention to turn UA-cam into TV. We know they want to do that, they've stated they want to do that, and they've done more than enough to show they want to do that, and naturally anything not TVlike must go. That includes responding to content, amending content, etc.
The annotations is particularly ridiculous. Half the traffic comes from mobile so they decide to discriminate against non-mobile players instead of fixing annotations for mobile.
Damian Freeman I've just been noticing ads for UA-cam TV, and there are movies advertised on the main page now.
There's even a button that I only just noticed on the sidebar below all your subscriptions for UA-cam movies so that seemed kind of ridiculous. Also if you don't have UA-cam Red or whatever UA-cam TV is those display at the very top of the sidebar. Yet whenever people complain about their layout it seems to somehow get worse so I guess it's ok now? Wouldn't want it to get even worse haha.
THEY ARE PUSHING UA-cam TV
WATCHING ACTUAL CHANNELS
ON UA-cam
WTF
its much easier deleting than improving
And to fix the spammy annotations problem, just add a limit of annotations per video + annotations per frame.
I remember all of this, I stared using UA-cam very early on and made my own channel in 2009
I used to love the proper messages function they had back then
Also, the title bar was above the video together with a subscribe button, and you could customize that subscribe button to any image you wanted
UA-cam used to have better 3D support with the flash player as well
rebane2001 Flash player is dead and the move to HTML 5 is good for non-tech savy users, and really anyone given just having a flash player installed is a security hazard.
About the only place Flash Player is still used is in online game sites like Kong, but even there Unity engine games are gaining traction.
I started in 06. Its crazy how much things have changed.
Haha thank you so much you're awesome
I started UA-cam in 2007 and remember some of these features. I preferred the old players.
I remember annotations! I still remember when I was a little kid years ago and when watching videos on the computer sometimes I would see them! I can't believe it's been so long now, and I kind of actually miss them.
After all these year, why am i forgot the annotations was exist in UA-cam in old days.
Video Responses were a great way for a small youtuber to share their video's along side someone popular. It's how I got my channel off the ground when I first started.
My favorite feature that UA-cam got ride of was the video drop down feature. when the title used to be on top of the video, next to it was a button that showed the recent videos of the up loader uploaded, so you didn't have to click off the video
Back in 2007 there was a 'worst video of the day' (or something of a similar name) section of UA-cam where all the videos that were voted one star would go. UA-cam actually encouraged negativity and harassment back then because they realised their users wanted to spew bile and hatred so it was good for business.
I used to upload videos of myself playing guitar 10 or 11 years ago and remember someone uploading a video telling me to kill myself. I reported it and the response I got was "sorry, this isn't against our terms of service".
Billy R "Remember when UA-cam was good"
I cant believe thats true, i need proof damn it!
Billy R before jewtube was PC
Bring back worst video of the day to humiliate that you tuber. I don't remember as I first used you tube in 2006 then stopped as it was just full of the you tube logo in different Themes as it was new then. I then came back to use it again in 2009 and I think that feature was gone by then. I was 10 as well.
Thats false
I miss Custom URL! They're limited
Damn, if there's anything that truly hurts me to look back on now, it's the old channel layouts (basically infinitely customisable, with SO MANY features to make our pages look unique and eye-catching), and video responses. I loved seeing and making video responses back in the day, it was one of the main things that kept this site an actual community, rather than scattered, randomised people on a barely-coherent site. It's just sad that it's so painfully generic now.
And aww, MAN, I remember the 'friends' option now too--I'd completely forgotten that was a thing.
I miss that cool feature called "having no ads"; so cool...
Yeah... now you have to pay.
Another feature I miss:
Comments that would be hidden if it had too many dislikes
+The German Mason And the dislikes being shown...!
The German Mason thats censorship but the dislikes being shown is what I miss
Amazing video, I totally forgot about honours!! They were really nice because they would have different ones for countries so you could see who the top Canadian, American, British youtubers were respectfully, and then even more so within each genre!
Omg... So many memories... This video remembers me of when i was actually uploading on my old (and long gone) channel i opened up back in 2007... Awesome times back then. I wish those times would come back.
11. UA-cam's copy right system in balance
Or no copyright system
Never existed lol. Its just gotten gradually shittier over time lmao
No
Ugggghhhhhhh
I saw a vid that was a a text prank on her ex-boyfriend to Look What You Made Me Do by Taylor Swift...
But Tay Tay the queen of copyright that she is
Made her just use the soundtrack
Then the vid got taken down a month later.
People are abusing the Copyrights
now i am feeling old
Good news:
you can actually restore annotations with the "Annotations Restored" add-on.
That add-on even lets you click on annotation links to other videos, and deactivate and reactivate annotations whenever you want, so it is more than just a visual thing.
This brings back memories of when I used to watch videos with my brother... Miss those times..
I give this video 5 stars
dont forget about youtube streams and the counter that counted how many videos you watched :P oh and adding gifs to your profile as a background.
videos getting randomly featured (still happens but it more of a silent action now)
and that at one time there was a video size limit of 100mb and 10 minutes. (i dont miss that one bit)
always had a love hate relationship with youtube streams. loved to go on random streams and talk some people were nice wile other were complete a$$wipes and would kick you as soon as you entered the streams for no reason.... ok so i might have exploited the streams with html crap once in awhile :P
i think the thing i miss most about youtube would be the channel customization. it was always fun to pimp out your profile... heck i remember when youtube went over to chenels 2.0 and every one went ape crap cause of it and hated it. if only they knew what was really coming.
Dude I completely forgot about UA-cam streams back in the day lol
yeah they were fun. sometimes lol :P
You really made me realize that I want to know how many videos I have watched.
of course. i spent a few years of my early teens on youtube streams playing pokemon with other people
Man I made some good UA-cam friends in the old streams. I was a big user of UltraNeko’s stream
I've been on youtube since 2010 and I still remember back when we had the 5 Star video rating system. Plus I remember when you can full customize the homepage on your profile and when you can have super custom UA-cam channel pages.
Next UA-cam feature to be removed :
The dislike button
well you were right
2:40 hey that feature is gone for me to.. but in real life
gee never heard that joke before
Ouch
We can be friends if u want
I am lonely 😔
Fuck off, no one cares
My favorite removed feature is the ability to tell a playlist to not automatically load the next video.
What's funny is that they barely even add any new features. They just keep removing the old ones. They also got rid off the "Sort by oldest" option for no reason, as well as the dislike counter.
Comments used to be way better. I miss my inbox too.
Your inbox still exists. It's just hidden and you never get notified when you get sent a message.
Go to "Creator Studio" by clicking your icon on the top-right. Click "community" on the left, then "messages".
Inbox still exists but nobody really uses it anymore.
human interaction... lost
KamazkaziDaniel 2 youtube didnt fuck it up, stupid google did
Vitorruy1 google bought it in 2006 & has completely ruined it since
Remember when people did UA-cam for fun and not money?
Yeah me either.
We still do. You just got to look harder, like music on the radio.
You mean me neither
Yes. Good times back then...
Except that no one but the really really big channels make any significant money anyways :P A guy in my country had a video with over a million views with adds...in 4 years he had gotten $10 or something.
I still have fun from YT and don't have money from it.
Remember when you could favorite a video like you could add to watch later? I still have my favorites playlist to this day.
Man, UA-cam from 2006 to 2013 was gold, it really was.
It was also the golden ages of the channel CollegeHumor.
@@Peter_1986 I didn't watch CollegeHumor until like 2015, can't believe I missed out on that
This video was very well put together and served it's purpose without any of the random nonsense in normal yt videos these days. Nice work
You forgot the old messaging system. Out of everything that is the one feature I want back. The new messaging system barely works.
There's a new messaging system?
Yeah. Its been around for a while. Barely works though. Go to your Creator Dashboard -> Community -> Messages
I love the internet allowing us to skip sponsor mentions :)
I miss being able to chat on peoples channels. I had so many awesome interactions with people back in the day.
Back in the day, UA-cam looked like Myspace. I actually liked Myspace. It was usually ugly as hell, but it was MY space. Facebook is very clearly Mark Zuckerberg et al's space, and now that's the way UA-cam is, too.
bobtheduck and insta-myself ohhhohh its insta-public
bobtheduck we still got Tumblr which lets you customise your own Theme and play your favourite emo band in the background full blast.
