I know everyone is talking about Marcus & Richie, and rightfully so! But for me, the quiet character development of Tina this season was absolutely beautiful. With a show that has so much going on & some seriously stressful scenes/episodes, she really shined for me. Hell, I love everything about this show but anytime Tina was on screen this season, all I could do was smile.

Marcus’s episode is incredible. The scene when he helps the old man that crashed his bike has a great tension to it, and the relief that Marcus feels when the man hugs him is palpable, helping Marcus realize that him being in Copenhagen isn’t wrong or selfish, he’s meant to be there. He is improving himself and through osmosis helping the lives of everyone he cares about. Also, the side shot of them hugging is absolutely beautiful, a perfectly captured moment. The cinematography in the show is top fucking notch.

Fak calls him Han Solo, which on the surface is the character’s cute nod to Empire Strikes Back, but it can be interpreted deeper: Han neglected old debts to Jabba and got fridged for it just like Carmy neglected self-awareness and dealing w/ his trauma; simultaneously, if we contrast Han and Carmy, Han famously says “I know” when Leia tells him she loves him in calm acceptance of his fate, but Carmy tries beating his way out of the fridge in disbelief that anyone could love him, which is how he hurts Claire and Richie

What’s more a commonly lesser show would have let a monster episode 2.6 “Fishes” pull the weight of the season; whereas “The Bear” knows it’s weight, but doesn’t forfeit the importance of the other 9 episodes - ‘Fishes’ might be the main course, but it’s not the meal

Claire's character definitely needed more character development. She just came off as an immature flirt and set up to be a distraction, and it felt like they made her a surgeon to try and give her more of a reason to be admired but other than that she fell flat. I dont know how to explain it. I only liked her in the last episode when (SPOILER) Carmy was in the fridge just thinking out loud and she heard him and walked out. I feel like her being a surgeon she would totally understand high pressure situations, but they neglected all of that. Carmy finally had a forced moment of peace being stuck in the fridge and was just sorting out his thoughts. Doesn't mean he actually agrees with what he's thinking, just trying to work through it all to get to the conclusion. I want to see more of Claire in the next season but they need to give her more substance than cute flirty girl who happens to be a doctor too.

She is actually perfect and great for Carmey and it hurts so much to hear that realization from him that he doesn't deserve any happiness, it's a sad truth that their relationship led Carmey to a lot of fuck ups and he's accepted that he just doesn't deserve that. The show finds the cinematic view by ditching the long, drawn out shots and drama soaked build. It lets reality be the kinetic driver for everything. Story and character is built by the quick dynamism of the flux we see. We don't need to be told much, because circumstances are so wonderfully shown that I don't need to get why Richy evolves. I get Marcus loves dessert, but we get both Carmy and Syd are aware and understand his potential by sending him overseas to learn.
We also get Carmy as an evolving parental figure this season. He puts people into situations to thrive that he realized he needed along his path to becoming a renown chef. Even giving away his knife, a sacred object to a chef of his stature, shows his trust. It gets to the point where the only one who doesn't necessarily get that is Syd, but that's because Carmy sees her as an equal this season. She doesn't need to be constantly reassured, but needs to trust and reassure herself. It may be due to negligence by Carmy, but that is the lesson Syd needed.
