To me, the scamming montage in 6/11 is just absolute perfection... The montage that truly made me realize the type of pwrson that Jimmy is and that he was never going to change... The use of the acoustic Tapioca Tundra was perfect to set the melancholy vibe that it gave

I think this is a perfect review, except I would also add that one area I found ironically lacking in the most this season was the FOOD! I remember with seasons 1-2 I would scold myself if I forgot to prepare a meal before putting on an episode because I would instantly be hungry and craving absolutely everything on the screen. Perhaps it's a metaphor for Carmy's emotional state this season, but when I looked at the plates rather than being appetizing I found the overwhelming sensation of restriction, complacency, and shades of "greige"- in what should be visually stunning cuisine! We should be envying these plates served up at high-end establishments and yet each dish this season gave the sensation of wearing a corset, or being on a painstakingly strict diet when all you really want is a juicy cheeseburger. It definitely took a lot of the pizzazz out of the show for me, and especially reminded me a lot of when The Walking Dead first started to drag with hyperfixating on in-group politics over actual zombie action and survival.

Only recently got HBO Max. Really loved the trailers for this show when I saw them, and watching the show it is even better. It’s a shame it didn’t go long enough to reach the early 90s (presumably since the show starts with Magic Johnson’s HIV diagnosis, it would have ended some time around then if allowed to run its course)

Good show. Every time an incident happened I had too look it up to see if it did happen. They all happened. However I knew they that how people and events were portrayed was not always true. I can't say especially any one person, basically everyone's personality and responses were over dramatic.

Season 2 ending with Boston winning the championship is not a big deal considering most basketball fans know how the Showtime Lakers story ends. They would go on to win the back-to-back championships in 1987 and 1988 before losing to the Chicago Bulls 4-1 in the 1991 NBA Finals. It would be their final championship appearance. Later that year Magic Johnson announced he had HIV and was forced to retire officially bringing an end to the showtime era. The Showtime Lakers story did not have a happy ending. In that context the way Winning Time ended is fitting.

I’m too much of a lakers fan to feel that the show wasn’t good … I found it entertaining and informative .. very informative on how Magic ended up on the Lakers with Kareem to how Dr Buss acquired the lakers to how intense the rival between the Lakers and Boston was .. and Jerry West was my fav throughout the 1st season … sorry it got cancelled but glad to know season two is finished so I can binge it !!!

Yes, there were some episodes where it's hard to say what's going on, but i can say when i saw first three episodes, I thought that if season 3 continues at the same speed, it will take the bar above season 2. Yes, i think the last episode of S3 is weaker that S1 and offcource S2, but there were also some amazing episodes, offcource the ones you've mentioned. It's still a series about real human problems. Without an idiotic agenda.

Getting heckled at Boston Logan Airport by Celtics fans in Season 1 is the best scene of the whole series!!

Winning Time was taking the glory away from LeGarbage. The 1980s Magic and the Lakers fan base was watching the series, but good old LeGarbage started to cry like a baby with a shitty diaper on, so HBO canceled the series without showing how 1980s ShowTime Lakers winning 5 Championship to LeGarbages 1 ILLEGITIMATE championship he brought to the Lakers franchise..

I’m sorry, but for all the cinematography and tone setting this show does, it just sucks. There are plot holes that make everything trivial, like “why do they have so many people on staff if they’re constantly battling budget?” And too convenient blessings like the “money in the banana stand” moment with the tomato sauce. I know a lot of people just want to be in their emotions watching this stuff and think “out of the blue” moments like finding a bunch of money is nice, but it’s incredibly lazy and cliche to the point that the rest of the show can’t be taken seriously

real or not I thought it was great. one of few shows I would actually make sure to watch the day a new episode came out. if it was on netflix I think it would still be going.

Winning time wasn’t cancelled because of hbo , it was cancelled because the real life people were complaining about how they were portrayed . Plus the actors couldn’t promote the show after sag aftra so it had low views . The show was great & averaged over 200k views a episode

John C Riley IS Jerry Buss in this show. Same with Norm Nixon's son playing his dad. Westphal was good. The other characters not really.

Granted I've been a Laker fan my whole life so I probably got more enjoyment out of this than I would have if that wasn't the case but I really agree with most of your points, save for the fourth wall breaking which I found charming. The show ending with Boston winning, and then a fucking slideshow for the rest of the rich history of the Lakers organization pissed me off to no end. I think what's worse though is that I felt that the show had just barely come into its own. Quincy Isaiah was really good as Magic and I hope to see him in more things, Pat Riley finally coming into his "Godfather" persona in the last couple episodes was fantastic. Jeanie, for being my least favorite part of the real life Lakers, I found compelling in her conflict with the excellent Riley as Buss. I can acknowledge all the flaws of the show but I really liked it and I think it had potential to get even better.

I thought the show was solid, I think that they could have portrayed Jerry West a little less maniacal. Brody killed it as Riley, and the actors playing Magic, Kareem and Nixon (Devaughn killed it as his dad, like O'Shea Jackson Jr was brilliant playing his father Ice Cube) were brilliant, but them cancelling the show on the Celtics winning the title still rubs me the wrong way.

If it wasn't for the abrupt cancelation in season 2 this show should have had atleast 5 plus seasons going into the Magic announcement probably being the series finale for instance. Man, what could have been👀🤔

I actually liked the show and was surprised to see it end so abruptly. The title made you believe it was going to be on for a while. At least until it was able to revisit the opening scene.

Loved it. Really entertaining show. Was disappointed when it was cancelled. It was never trying to be 100% accurate, it was a drama with comedy elements based off of historical facts, and they let the audience in that. That over the top cartoonish portrayal of Jerry West by Jason Clarke was brilliant, that was the show’s wink at the audience and surely nobody actually believed Jerry West behaved like that. Can see where the real people being portrayed were coming from in a way, but it would’ve been nice if they could’ve taken it with the “wink wink nudge nudge” nature it was made in.

Jason Clarke was a great Jerry West.
