  • Lisa Gade reviews the Honor 8, Huawei’s latest Android smartphone in their relatively affordable Honor line. This is a US-friendly unlocked 4G LTE GSM phone that supports AT&T and T-Mobile as well as many smaller carriers in the US and overseas carriers. It supports LTE bands 1/2/3/4/5/7/8/12/17/20 with CAT6 LTE and VoLTE.
** Read our full written review here: www.mobiletechr...
The Honor 8 is clad in glass and aluminum and it has a 5.2” full HD display with wide color gamut. This is one of the few phones with an IR blaster AV remote control.
The Honor 8 runs Android 6 Marshmallow with Huawei’s EMUI 4.1 UI. It uses their own hisilicon Kirin 950 octa-core processor and it has 4 gigs of RAM and your choice of 32 or 64 gigs of storage plus a microSD card slot compatible with cards up to 128 gigs. The phone has an 8MP front camera and 12MP dual rear cameras, much like the more expensive Huawei P9. It has dual band WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth, NFC and a GPS. The 32 gig model is $399 and the 64 gig model is $449. Pre-orders start August 26, 2016 and it ships September 2.

I have to be completely honest Lisa, I totally thought your background was a pre-rendered background offered by Huawei and not a picture you took. That is unbelievable.

Thanks. I'm an avid photographer and sometimes go out with my cameras just to shoot images that are suitable for phone and laptop wallpapers (pretty but not too busy).

Until recently I used an iPhone 5s (16GB) which is now over 3 years old. At first I was thinking to get an iPhone 7 Plus and later I
took a look at the LG G6, but their price tags made me think twice.
So, I got a black Honor 8 for 365 € a few days ago I must say I am really impressed by the software, especially after updating to EMUI 5 (Android 7). They put a lot of dedication and work into it I must say. The UI feels extremly smooth to the point where I can finally say the days of Android stuttering are finally over (hopefully)!
The device with its glass front and back feels good while holding and the display is very pleasing. From the few photos I shot I feel like the camera(s) are pretty good for the price range of the phone.
Comparing the fingerprint sensor of the iPhone 5s to the Honor 8, the Honor 8 is extremely fast and acurate. I barely touch the sensor and it unlocks. Great! The sensor on the iPhone 5s always takes a second before it reacts.
All in all, I'm very pleased with my decision to give the Honor 8 a try.

Battery life with honor 8 is decent gets me thru the day but if you pwer user keep ya plug with you cause you'll need it by 5hr use point but nice thing is it will give you at least 45 per cent charge within 35 mins. As for axon 7 I really don't know. But ive heard good things

Hi Lisa, thanks for the very comprehensive review!
It would be awesome if you could answer the following two questions :)
    - Does the Honor 8 display push notifications (like whtsapp or facebook) in any other mode than "performance" e.g. "smart"?
    - Did the auto-brightness feature work flawlessly for you (no auto reset to minimum brightness)?
Thank you very much in advance!
Keep up the good stuff :)

    Informative, as always.
I just wish, there were a phone out there that ticks all the boxes! :O)
Maybe if they brought out a OnePlus 3 mini? But, even that would have a camera hump ;O(
I love the size of this phone, but the glass back would be a total no, no for me..fingerprint city *and* I'd be terrified of scratching it, or dropping it.

Hi, thanks for the video. Does the US version of honor 8
support dual sims? The specification at hihonor.com says Single
nano-SIM (4FF). Also, when I asked using chat at hihonor.com, first they
told me it supports either one sim and one memory or two sim cards.
Now, they are saying sorry the US version of honor 8 supports single sim. I am not sure which it true.

mmmm is that much of a difference between the kirin 950 and the 955?
At least my P9 plus can handle things as smoother as my S7 edge.
The biggest compromise is the GPU, although it's the same as the S7 line, the Kirin packs the 4 cores one and the Exynos packs the 12 core version.
of course the Kirin powered phones drive less screen resolution.
The biggest problem I have with my Huawei is software, and not because how the launcher is designed, you can always change it.
But the annoying useless notifications about apps consuming battery in background and the way some notifications look like on the lock screen or on the notification bar just annoys me.

      @berealbud2963 8 років тому

+Nova G you say it has a better CPU, yet it can't keep up with the 820 in all comparison between the Oneplus 3 and Honor 8..and it's gpu is rather bad.. Having framerate drops on games like Candy Crush Saga.. So Ya.. If you want a phone based on performance alone.. Get the Oneplus 3

    • @daraen8001
      @daraen8001 8 років тому

+BeReal Bud the CPU is a monster, over 6000 points in Geekbench like the Exynos 8890. The GPU is extremely solid, can run every game very smoothly. A french website has done a gaming test and the Kirin 950 was at 60fps in NFS, more than the Galaxy S7. There is not a huge différence between Mali t880mp4 and t880mp12 except deux things : the second will run stupid useless benchmark better and Will cost way more (and probably more overheating too)
      So yeah, numbers are nothing.

Forget the phone...I WANT THE CAT!!! lol Seriously though, it's aluminum and not plastic? Sign me up. I don't care about fingerprints. I want metal. We have too much plastic ruining the environment.

That's actually clever using romeo and Juliet because if phones were like people. Apple and samsung would be against each other and couldn't date one another

    So...Oneplus 3 or Honor 8? Crap :(

Oneplus 3 is the better choice in my opinion. I would only take the honor 8 if I didn't need the extra performance and wanted to save $100.

I'm happy with my LG G5. Part of my criteria for buying any smartphone is that it must have both a micro SD slot and a removable battery.

well dont get the op3 JUST for the ram. overall i think they are both good, i like the aluminium body of the OP3 more but i like the fingerprint on the back more....hard to say. im not a fan of glass back but i always use phones with a case so it actually doenst matter..

I have both on my hand. I think not much difference on performance. Honor 8 is good for one hand use, OP3 have bigger screen

      Op3: My personal reasons are:
      - Best fast-charge
      - bigger screen
      - design and build quality, as well as feeling(was more my thing)
      - performance difference is so little that it doesn't matter
      - experience with oneplus one, because op1 never really lost it's power over time(I just wanted a new one lol)
      - fingerprint sensor on the front
It all depends on what you actually need.
