In today’s video, we get to try out the Oeksound Spiff plugin! The Spiff is a transient designer, but it is not like the many other transient designers out there. This plugin is an EQ specific transient designer, meaning you can sit there and cut and boost certain frequencies.
We are also lucky enough to get to giveaway THREE copies of Oeksound’s Spiff!
Spiff has been designed to cut and boost transients with extreme detail. This plugin analyzes the incoming signal and applies processing only to the parts of the signal that contain the transient information, which keeps the rest of the signal intact and free from side effects.
This is wonderful for things like drums, where you can enhance the attack and be very specific to certain frequencies. It can also be great for vocals, as it can help you cut out excessive lip smacking or excessive T’s and D’s, or boost and exaggerate certain sounds and frequencies where you don’t have enough in the performance.
Spiff presents an infinite number of possibilities for sound manipulation with their new way of controlling transients. You can remove all of the attack from a piano, turn guitar parts into a make a picked guitar sound fingerpicked, remove the close mics from a drum recording, and so much more.

Produce Like A Pro is a website which features great tips to help the beginning recordist make incredible sounding home recordings on a budget.
How would you use this plugin in your mixes?
To tame distorted guitars
probably to get the drums to cut a bit more
Vocals and aqoustic and for sure on more. It seems great.
I would use this on midi instruments to add transients back that may have been limited when tracking the samples.
I'd use it to increase my dynamics. Real mixes have curves, and points!
i LOVE when Warren gets new toys!!
Haha me too!!
Man, the giveaways just keep coming man! Wonderful to see these in depth and lengthy showcases. As always, doing justice to these products
Thanks ever so much my friend
@@Producelikeapro My pleasure!
@@RC32Smiths01 I asked on another video, tell me about yourself? What's your name?
@@Producelikeapro I am Jude! A Musician simply put. I am fascinated with the idea of mixing however!
"Were just going to whack it on the master."
My new favorite Warren quote.
Haha yes, indeed! Whack it on!!
Love the giveaways! In the meantime, I think I'll see if I can approximate this in my Reason rack.
Thanks ever so much! Let us know how you get on!!
I have used Spiff a lot on acoustic guitars and pianos in in different projects I've worked in the past. Such a helpful tool to have.
Fantastic!! Thanks ever so much for sharing my friend!
What a great tool for those of us used to working with less than ideally recorded source material!
Exactly!! 100%!
I'm pleasantly surprised at how nice my new laptop is sounding. This is the first time I'm listening to it with my really old good headphones, and worked through the settings. I made a note of an interface not that long ago back maybe a month, because I know I want to get one to hub into this. My previous HP desktop had sounded very nice as well. A friend made sure I would have the power to do what I want with this, knowing what I generally did with the last one she gave me. It's very sweet. I'm getting excited now, getting back in the hang of windows in this current iteration. Wow! This does sound fantastic! I should probably go ahead and get Reaper while I'm relearning all the adaptive navigational stuff again. It's already starting to stay in my head after only a couple of hours. This Oeksound thing sounds good.
I would get reaper. And I would check out the "essential file management in reaper" video, posted by the reaper blog channel here on youtube. Good luck!
Thanks ever so much Audrey for sharing!!
@@banigrisson thanks ever so much for sharing!!
Bani Grisson Thank you Bani!
@@splashesin8 marvellous!
I haven’t gotten into transient designer plugins yet, might check this out
I would! I got to say I'm very impressed with Oeksound!
I keep waiting for "Bobby's drivin' through the city tonight
Through the lights in a hot new rent-a-car, etc..."
Haha thanks!
Missed the sale on this great plugin. Will grab it in the next sale from Oeksound.
I have to say... usefulness of the plugin aside, dearly love watching your enthusiasm and picking up the little tips and tricks you drop through all your videos. Thanks for sharing..
Aw shucks! Thanks ever so much Paul! I really appreciate it
Hi Warren & Eric and the rest of the team.
I just wanted to give you praise for another great video. as well as praising you for always being so skilled at both showing and explaining how a plugin works. in this case how SPIFF works. but I would also like to thank you for all your other videos, which are at least as good as this one.
and of course you should also know that I am happy every day, for being a lifetime member of PLAP's fantastic community
Sonible entropy EQ is not exactly the same, but solves some of the same problems. It's free with any purchase on pluginboutique!
Thanks ever so much for sharing!
Spiffingly good for any track over compressed, I would use this, it's wonderful / so many uses that you could find. Master individal tracks. This is maybe as good as a mastering Tool!
Thanks ever so much Robert!!
Am I wrong? Did it reduce the echo/reverb on the drum part? It may be useful for fixing problems in recordings. Great!
Yes! Increasing the attack is similar to expanding and therefore the background ambiance becomes significantly less
Hey ! Auf Wiedersehen! Cool blatant tool, .... the graphic surface is really clear and you have the impression that it is really under control, what and where if not everything, but only exactly the specials, gets a little higher or less.
Great way to isolate frequencies on any bus or channel and manipulate what's lacking or too strong. Very nice tool!
Yes, indeed Charles! Thanks for sharing!
Wow I really like that delta feature without it my ears would never have heard those boosted oarts!
Yes, rather good indeed!!
Ronnetts! Love it.
Marvellous!!
Eno with this and a few others would be over the top, I still love listening to Eno and it never gets tired because it's so ahead if his time. This plug in on drums is like having your ears flushed, opens up those dynamics and a big sound. I don't like having too many plugins because it's a distraction, but this one I will need soon. Thanks for the demonstration!
Warren, are you only putting the plugin on the track in question? I don't see you select a region.
Yes, directly on the track, I’m not using Audiosuite and processing it
i think mixing this thing into a limiter/clipper could be very nice
also, the stereo link button is incredibly useful, holy smokes
Fantastic plug in! Must have!
Wonderful!!
As always....wonderful. Thank you
What kind of sorcery is this?
Haha I hear you! Pretty darn fun indeed!
Very impressive plug in
Merlin"s beard! Lol
@@timbrown7652 indeed!
@@PharaohLawLess1 hah yes!!
Duplicating a track then using this plugin on delta mode and adding some saturation to it would be sweet.
Marvellous idea!!
If you do not mind constructive criticism, Spiff would work so much better with less effort if you fix the frequency masking where the instruments in question are playing in the same octave/frequency spectrum. From your presentation, Spiff is killer in general (I use it exclusively), yet with the frequency masking taking place in the low and high mids, Spiff is bringing out more of the masking, which makes it sound honky, hollow, and boxy. Once the masking is removed, better stereo separation and expansion with take place psychoacoustically where Spiff will enhance the overall frequency spectrum.
What a great idea and like you said, an idiot proof transient designer! Just for me!!
Great review Warren! You Rock!
Thanks ever so much Doug!!
It's really good isn't it!
Hi Tim Brown thanks ever so much my friend!
Holy.. I feel like this would be amazing dealing with snare ring, buzz and body!!
Entered.
Marvellous!!
Great video uploaded on my birthday!! Loving this!
Lots of love,
Ayhan (my name in the academy)
pretty cool how the kick is tuned perfectly to the bass line...is it a real timpani or a sample?
Yes! It’s Timpani
Boz Transgressor do the same thing. I have to check out that SPIFF. THX for that tutorial ! Cheers
Thanks ever so much for sharing Mario!!
*Phil Spector entered the chat*
Woo
Yes!! Wonderful Ricardo!
Sweet!
Thanks ever so much!!
I neeeeed this plug in so bad
Very impressive indeed!
Between this and your love of the Soothe plugin, you, sir, are decidedly in danger of becoming an Oeksound fanboy. ;-) So fun to see your enthusiasm for exploring what a tool can actually do for you.
Haha I might be!! We have another video coming tomorrow that really pushes Soothe from another amazing Engineer and Producer!
@@Producelikeapro looking forward to that video!
@@rsnhf.9073 did you watch? It was with Darrell Thorp!
@@Producelikeapro you're a gentleman, thank you so much! I did not know which video it was until you told me who it was featured with.
Using it in my mastering chain, when i have to tame overly agressive hi-hats, symball attack, or such. Nothing else does it more transparent. Not even close!
That's great to hear my friend!
the guitar pick preset seems for electric guitar with small thick pick I can instantly tell from the "delta-sound":P, the higher selection you made is much better for the soft flappy pic being used on the acoustic.
EQ-Specific Transient... Wow! I like this tool! ;-)
Agreed 100%!!
I hope I win this. But if not, I'll be buying it down the road. I don't have a good transient designer, and this is my favorite one I've heard.
That's great to hear!!
I have to get both of their plugs, they are amazing! Bundle price pleeese!
That’s a wonderful idea!
Well that's a quick "plug'n play" problem solver isn't it ;:-)
.............. Those Oeksound folks must have harry potter doing some coding! :-)
It really is like a more sophisticated transient designer/dee-esser.
Great functional tool !
Sometimes I get so... worked up (?) with these plugins that I start adjusting budget and stuff to get them. I also get kind of... offended when someone says its pure hype, because they obviously work! What makes me calm down is remembering: countless records were made without them. Chill and make music. You'll have to work a little bit harder, but it's possible. My two cents!
love it......
WOw!!! Robotechnology!!!
Haha indeed Milton!!
This plugin is dynamite - it can do amazing things, and also OVERDO them to the point of ruin. Really cool.
Hopefully, hopefully, I'm the lucky one who get a giveaway on this fatalistic plugin. WOW ... ....
Thanks ever so much Kevin!
Hi Warren, I was looking at your top 10 free plug-ins I got via your email. Will download them thank you! I saw the Bittersweet transient designer on the list which I am excited to use since I've never used this kind of plug-in before. How is it different than EQ?
What are those headphones?
Blue Lolas. Unless Warren has upgraded to a different model recently...
They are Blue Lolas Jack!
@@paulEmotionalaudio you are correct my friend!
The night we met I knew I need you so
Hi,
DO YOU USE SONARWORKS 4 HEADPHONE SOFTWARE ALONG WITH ABBEY ROAD STUDIO 3
WHILE MIXING ON HEADPHONES ?
IS IT ACCURATE FOR say,BOOST 3 DB AT 100 hz while mixing on headphones without any worry regarding translation of Headphone mix to outer world?
I use the Sonarworks to flatten the headphones so they are more accurate and Abbey Road for checking how it sounds in other rooms
Producers: Please spare us the crunchy/tube/saturator/harmonic exciter on all the lead vocals! It's going overboard.
Warren: New Toys!!! New Toys!!!! New Toys!!!!
Also me: Boo
Others: Actually buys the new toys
😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩
Why did you omit mentioning that the drums are a sample from "Be My Baby"? Because they most certainly are.
I thought the drums were a sample of be my baby
Wow! That's all I could say! Really dug that on the mixbuss! Hugh....
Thanks ever so much!!
