Today, we get to try out a brand new plugin: the Waves StudioRack!
This marvellous new plugin allows you to create powerful plugin chains of up to 8 plugins. The enhanced features of the StudioRack include parallel processing racks, multiband split racks, and quick-access macros to create your own “custom plugins”.
Two of the features that I am excited to try out are the multitband features, which means that I can stack plugins in a row, and each plugin can affect a different band, and the macros function, which will allow me to take multiple plugins and have one macro that controls them all.
The StudioRack also introduces easy plugin search, so you can always find the plugins you need, as well as floating plugin windows so you can view and control multiple plugins simultaneously.
After creating your chains, you can save them for instant recall, so you can reuse the custom plugin chains you have created. These chains can be opened in any DAW, making it easier to collaborate with other producers and mixers who may use a different DAW than you do.
This plugin was so much fun to try out, and I know we only scratched the surface of what it is capable of! If you are interested in the Waves StudioRack, click here to check it out!

What plugin chains would you create with the StudioRack?
The combination on VitualDJ master bus is absolutely stunning. I use entire pallete of them, including JJ Drums, vitamin, masserati... It is simply incredible for "fixing" mp3's in live gigs. Looking forward to use V11, was waiting for this for a quite a long time
@@DJCroGs marvellous!!
It would be fun to use it on a couple stems of dry instruments (guitar, bass, drums) and then set up like 8 different IR reverbs set at different times in the chain to simulate them in a live studio, or throw in some delays to create a faux-outdoor environment. It's almost like a foley environment.
@King Yellowman agreed 100%!!
treat hi,mid, low with there own saturation. And use effect on certain frequency spectrum's to create ear candy. Most just use sat-dist on the hi part of the drums for attack. Like how you do on the bass to make the hi end cut through
When he inserted the distortion and delay stomps plus the h reverb on parallel I thought warren was going crazy. Then the guy hits play and everything makes sense. Nuts...
Haha thanks ever so much my friend!!
This would be handy for A/B testing different chains. You could have 8 different vocal chains ready to go to try out on your template.
This is nuts. Just crazy. Crazy awesome. This is like a sea of options. You can now distort just the high end, similar to what the Saturn plugin does (Eric Valentine) and that's just my first ideas to try. Wow. Game changer.
Nothing new. You've been able to do this in Reason for a long time (and now in their Rack VST). Ableton Live has been able to do this for a long time. There is also Kilohearts' Multipass plugin that allows you to do this with much better visibility and up to 5 bands for Multiband. Its nothing new.....Waves is just jumping on the bandwagon.
I use this plugin with my soundgrid server (dsp). It's amazing how much more powerful this system is getting. Excellent showcase!
Thanks ever so much Paul! You Rock! I am only just scraping the surface! Excited to see what this can do!!
Right away I can tell I won't have to split bass signals anymore. Just one DI straight through this. Nice job Warren on the tutorial and Waves for the handy plugin.
That's a great idea Joey!! Thanks for the great insight!
@@Producelikeapro Definitely going to have a go at it today
Mr. Huart, your enthusiasm is contagious. Thank you for the tutorial. Man, things are streamlining! You and the family keep healthy. Ciao.
This is evolution for those who own DAW with less possibilities to manage sends. New level game.
Agreed 100%!!
This is the best introduction to the use of this amazing plugin... so many thanks! I have just returned to the music recording scene after nearly 50 years and loving the new digital domain with so many analogue sounds and tutorials like yours are making it so easy for me to grasp.
Right on time! Downloaded the free plugin today. Now I’m ready to get my hands dirty. And I really enjoyed looking over your shoulder as you created stuff. Thanks!
Wow, a new Plugin is available and before I even had the chance to click the download button, you made already a new video with an awesome how-to-use review !!! 👌😂Wonderful content as always, thank you for your efforts !
Aw shucks! Thanks ever so much my friend!!
You saved my mix, my career, my life❤️🙏🏻
Picked this up last night. Watched one of the accompanying videos, then had a play with it on my current mix. Wow!
Absolutely Brilliant, as per usual, Thank You Warren, watching You is like having a world class musician/engineer/producer as your best friend. You are a God send.
God bless & protect You Warren & Your Family Always.
This is so helpful, Warren. I hadn't realized the possibilities for this tool. Thank you.
Love the speed and convenience of handling a bunch of plugs in different ways in one box on my screen. I’ll check it out this evening.
After watching your great video Warren I immediately went to the Waves site and downloaded this. This is absolutely brilliant - dare I say another game changer. I know there are a million possibilities for using this creatively but what a fantastic way of making your DAW more tidy with less clutter. Thanks for a great review. Hey and it's FREE - wow
Turtles all the way down. Awesome job Waves.
i have been playing around with this plugin for the past few days its got my creativity running on sterioids
Hey Warren, great vid, thanks. The knob above each band is the input of it, so when you use that all the plugins in that band will act different. The output is the little fader on the bottom of the band.
thanks so much for that Warren, I just downloaded studiorack and this is exactly what I needed! that feedback effect on the guitar is awesome!
Fantastic! Thanks Willem!!
Thanks a ton for this Warren. You're the audio hero we all need!
Aw shucks! Thanks ever so much!
I just tested all of waves Mercury v10 plug-ins on it and it worked flawlessly even though it is a v11 plugin. Being able to save these massive plugin chains as a presets is going to speed up everything. I am very thankful to have a SoundGrid server so I don’t have to print tracks to save processing power.
My face and ears when I heard this in a real session --> 😱😱😱.
I got the email for this plugin but I wanted someone else to review it, and thank God it was you. Can you imagine all the possibilities for this free plugin!?? Maaaaannnn. It's pretty much mixing with mastering alongside. The mastering engineers will have it much easier if we turn all the mixes like this with this toy.
I've been using Reason to get some of these sounds for the past 10 years... the Pulverizer and Scream work wonders on drums... this will be a nice addition to my DAW... now I can stay in Digital Performer for these flavors.
I have always loved when I could save custom set ups like this. It's been a long time since I had a thing like this. 😃
Warren Huart's voice is the best ASMR out there ❤️
He gives those ice cream roll videos a real run for their money X-D
Haha I don't thin k I speak that quiet! I know there's people who deliberately do that, I on the other hand am not that clever! Haha
@@Producelikeapro You are simply a natural!
@@aaroncampmusic haha I'll have to sign up to do those! Hahaha
@@aaroncampmusic you're too kind my friend!!
Customs Plugins definitely sound much interesting and useful to really helping in diverse styles. Always a pleasure to watch man!
Thanks ever so much my friend!
@@Producelikeapro Always a pleasure to watch man!
This is a game changer Warren, great job !
Outstanding!! Thank you for posting!!
Thank you my friend!!
I've been using the Waves API 550A, 550B and 2500 plugins quite a bit the last 2 weeks and have really been enjoying them. I really like the way the sound and I really like the clicks/detents. I never thought I might prefer that "lack" of flexibility in preset settings but I've found it to actually be very useful. The old dog's learning some new tricks! Looking forward to implementing the StudioRack now.
I used the older version of the StudioRack. Then I went and upgraded my plugins before checking. That wonderful resource was gone. I had to figure out how to get by without it. Now, there's this. All the stuff I wished I could add to the old version, a ton of stuff I didn't even think about, and you just made it look like greatest thing since leavened bread, and super easy to use, Warren. I got nothing. I wanted to come up with some fantastice, eloquent, and mildly cool way of saying how awesome that is. And... I got nothing. That was frigg'n cool. Downloading in 3...2...1...
I used the older version for quickly calling up various plugins and effects for each instrument like guitars, bass, and drums, then others for master mix bus. I already like the sleeker design and newer features making think hmm....? Thanks Warren and looking forward to checking out your live stream! Ciao, ALDO
I created a vocal chain that sounds like god, unbelievable, this is a must for going live
I installed it some day ago and tried it out on vocals and the bass. The rat are some awesome possibilities with this one.
I saw this 🤪 my life is now so much faster and simpler I've run out of bus channels on pro tools setting up parallel processing and duplicating tracks and hi and low passing to make my own multiband thank you waves
Ethan Beahm marvellous! Thanks ever so much for sharing
I was hesitant earlier today when I downloaded this. Seemed like just a "different view" to use your plugins in a mix. But certainly for anyone that doesn't have hardware I see this as a great opportunity to setup your "rack" for initial recording. Even with that, this simplifies parallel compression vs side chaining. Even more I love this because back in the late 90's I used Acid Pro to run loops and record and "build" on a concept. I believe this has opportunity on so many levels. From just getting recordings, to unleashing effects, to mixing.. and dare I say mastering? Definitely a great sandbox to play in!
yeah i was experimenting with applying different effects on mid and side. not in this plugin, but it does seems make it easier to do.
Woah! That's awsome!
I downloaded it during my lunch break, can't wait to play around with it tonight. Looks like it could be a game-changer...for me at least.
This is pretty crazy. I think the difficulty with this plugin.. will be in trying not to get lost down the rabbit hole.... too often ;)
And at last this works on Windows PC and Cubase (the best DAW). :) ;) Thanx Waves and Warren.
Iam totally using this drum buss idea soon
This seems very cool! I definitely will be using the multiband as a multiband compressor on heavy guitars to control the palm mutes and instead of having to use the C4 I have so many options of compressors and just slap it on the 1 band I want to effect between 100-300hz. One thing I'm not sure of is parallel compression on drums. I use a send and don't send overheads to parallel compression and crush the crap out of snares kick and toms but all at a different level of send to the parallel bus. I guess I still have to do it that way. Yes? It seems like this is good for creating a parallel channel on all drums with all levels being the same.
Whoa! You really know how to put that berserk to work
Warren thanks , gotta have one
Thanks ever so much A.D!
Unlimited possibilities! and its free!!
Exactly!!
Very cool stuff! I have Berzerk, MDMX plugins, Abbey Road Chamber and Saturation so I can nicely start with em. Need perhaps H-delay, compressor and few others, but not much. :)
Propeller heads Reason had something similar called the COMBINATOR. Been waiting on something like this for a while. I'm going to treat it like an outboard rack that I guy send certain instruments/vocals to.
I like how I can make my own preset chain, it's time saving!
Brilliant 👍🏾
This is better than the Waves walkthrough and CREATIVE!
Aw shucks! Thanks ever so much my friend!!
it's more like there are pointing into the direction of ableton nice Job warren!
Can't believe they're giving this away for free!! Actually, it makes total sense they are giving it away. A non waves plugin user is now looking through their tasty looking menu just so I can use this studio rack. Imagine if all plugins can be used in this studio rack......man that would be insanely awesome
Janson Lau laughs in ableton
> implying everyone use Ableton
Chain shoot out?, i am really excited about the plugin, the thing thats important is the work flow, you not forced to go down that dusty road every time
Really nice, if you are looking for multiband functionality for any vst (not just Waves), have a look at the MB-5 or MB-7 by Blue Cat Audio
Perfect👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Great video! I'll do PRS Dallas, V9 and Archon with a single macro to 2go from clean to mean 🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻
Thanks ever so much my friend! Berserk is one of the best plug ins ever made my friend!! Great work!!
@@Producelikeapro thanks mate♥️ it was a fun one to design.
looks like waves took a page from the PreSonus channel editor.. Very cool cain't wait to get into this. Love your channel by the way. Thanks
Thanks ever so much!!
Simply WOW
you know i was the one, or one of the ones who suggested this to waves years ago, can't believe its here and they went away beyond my suggestions, with the parallel and everything, but the funny thing is I upgraded yesterday so i can use version 11 plugs and as soon my update was completed, studio rack was available, really crazy
Amazing
If you'd put on every parallel slot an instance of the CLA Hub... Wil those CLA-channels also in a bucket?
Hey Warren, question: I want to upgrade my recording quality a bit and currently own a Focusrite 2i2 2nd gen + the included cm25 mkii mic. Im thinking of going for a Motu M4 + a Shure Sm7B (+cloudlifter). Do you think this is a good/significant upgrade or are there better alternatived? Thanks!
Really awesome plugin , will save much of cpu now :)
It's pretty interesting to say the least!!
Produce Like A Pro after watching your review I can say it’s pretty insane 👍
@@AlexeySolovievMusic thanks my friend!!
Imagine the endless possibilities
It's pretty insane! I only JUST got it, so I'm still trying things out!!
So, typically I don't notice that big of a difference when people start tossing around compressors and the like. Here you can REALLY hear the difference! Incredile!
The multiband split is extremely useful for Dolby 5.1/7.1/8.1 mixes. (e.g. Movie soundtracks).
Yes, that's makes perfect sense!
Produce Like A Pro I forgot to say what an awesome episode it was and how phenomenally great those drums sounded with your mix changes. Very informative and very inspirational as usual😎
been using kiloHearts' Snap Heap and MultiPass for awhile now as a bundle from Slate. Similar thing, but with limited plugins that are of kiloHearts.
wait, the macro i can have already as smart controls in Logic no? The partial processing of the spectrum however looks awesome. I have this and the abbey road collection, but is unfortunate for my built in friends
One word: Meta-plugin.
Haha indeed!! One word! Haha
I have all the Abbey Road plug-ins. Wouldn't it be fun to put together Abbey Road Studio racks using several of the plug-ins for the tracks and a few for master buss?
In Presonus Studio One Professional DAW this feature is already included in every channel strip. It's called Channel Editor. It's a game changer. There are also EIGHT macro controls and eight buttons in every channel wich could be assigned to ANY parameter... It's possible to phisicaly control these macros via Faderport DAW controller. Any custom FX chain could be saved and recalled. So this Waves Studio Rack looks realy familiar to me. However it's a great and useful tool.
This is waves way of getting you to version 11. And man it is so hard to resist.
This plugin... game changer
Fantastic to hear Mark!!
There is a solo button and a slider at the buttom as well. Use em :)
Haha I did and do! Have a marvellous day!
@@Producelikeapro like-wise good sir
@@NikolajChristensen marvellous!
How do you process your speech in youtube. ! It’s smooth!
Have you tried the new Fabfilter Saturn 2? With transformer presets and lot's of new saturation stuff... the transformer stuff alone sounds insanely good...
Hey Warren, I’m sure I missed it somewhere but what song is that? Sounds great!
Two words...…..OPTION ANXIETY!
but yeah, hugely versatile tool, possibilities are endless!, sky's the limit......until your CPU waves the white flag!! :-o
so the first audio track in parallel-split is its like the dry vocal, so when i put effects on there (inside the parallel-split) would that be ok and they work as normal or are they on track 1 in parallel-split exact like the seconde and third channel like an aux send bus? (as an extended space for my plugins)? cause my vocal chain contains 11 plugins for me to work perfect and studiorack only got 8 slots...another question is: can i use two studioracks like do the half of my chain in 1 instance of waves stuidorack and then do my other half of the vocal chain in a 2nd waves studiorack instance and then ordered them in my daw like one is in insert1 and one is in insert2 of my track effects?
It reminds me of NI Guitar Rig's Container
can you use fab filter plugins with this etc , thanks
this is really cool! ...then, i realized i'm primarily a t-racks user and barely have any waves plugins, lol
This is the Lord of the plugin s
As a Studio One Pro user I have possibility of effect grouping with custom routing straight out of box ;)
Absolutely. The Splitter can do the multi band feature by frequency for any plugin. The Channel Editor can do the Macro feature (and what's even better it can do inverse as well) and of course its had FX chains for a long time
@@stupidusername38 same goes for MS processing and parallel processing
@@stupidusername38 the Waves Studio Rack also does inverse! I just didn't demonstrate! I think ultimately what this is doing is levelling the playing field for anyone who was Waves plug ins and has ANY DAW!
@@sskopintsev agreed, this is levelling the playing field for those of us that won Waves plug ins but have one of the many other DAW's.
@@Producelikeapro absolutely. It'll be a good option for owners of those DAWs who don't have those features who were thinking of jumping ship to the competition.
COOOL!!!
SOO Is The Parralel Split Running Through The Multi-band ? More ON Signal Flow Please .. woohooo!
What about delay compensation? Does it automatically compensate? Can do it manually? (automatic better most of time, but manual can be used creatively)
Are these linear phase or zero latency crossovers? (i like linear more but zero latency sometimes can add character)
Can non-waves plugins be used here?
Can I save presets with all plugins and their settings?
Can you sidechain these plugins?
Noticed you're tweaking the input levels tho, not the output levels! But this thing is a huge game changer for me!
Ableton Live have had Rack's Chain (plugin chains) since 2005
I might have to buy SOC to go with this...
Nice, the Macros thing I think they took the idea from Ableton
Wow, looking at this video I only now fully onderstand how far ahead Ableton live is in terms of routing. The audio effect rack can do this and more with any (plugin) effect. Visually, this rack is far superb though.
I like this thing.
Thanks ever so much Tim!!
@@Producelikeapro Been a while. Have had major home improvement projects, and working many hours. Nothing to complain about considering the 30,000 unemployed right now.
@@TimKaseyMythHealer yes, agreed my friend! We are blessed to have this love of music!
Any side chain capabilities??
You are like a kid with a new toy, don't you Warren?? I will try it tomorrow in my mix session.
How taxing is a fully loaded rack on your system?
Can I use it to wrap plugins? So if there are plugins available as VST or AU but not AAX, I can load them in this and open them in Pro Tools?
With the new version yes
Sadly, I can't use it out of the box. Because operating system requirements are killing my jam. Trying to use v9 installer and hoping for the best.
If you know how to code, Reaper gives quite a bit of plugin writing power right in the DAW...
I need effects rack from soundtoys to do this. NEEED. Imagine this with decapitator or radiator!
