Nice video, funny as the 12 sided laser set I bought the same one to remove the engine torque brace when I did the coolant pipes (Cayenne S)

Had to re-centre my wheel and on a 997s
Followed the guide and had no issues what so ever.
No airbag light after doing so.... pasm warning light on after reconnecting the battery that goes off after a small drive.
    Straight forward.
My airbag popped out pretty much with a little wiggling.
I used a large Allen key instead of the m12 spline socket.
    Allen key worked very well.
Most use a torx size 55 size also.
Don’t pay for anyone to do this.... it’s very easy.

Hi, pretty interesting video but I was expecting a part 2. Did you at any point remove the lower cowling of the steering column? I find it very hard to remove the plastic stud that is holding a wiring harness. Any advice would be highly appreciated.

Hey man. Thank you for the video. You're the first person to show me how to get the airbag out. Quick question. I have the exact same before and after wheels as you. Did you use the same airbag or a new one? The airbag that comes out of the OEM wheel is a different shape. Did you have to take it apart? Thanks in advance!

I had to get a new airbag for the gen 2 wheel ,,,, the gen 1 airbag will not fit , its a completely different bag ,,, do not try to take it apart ,, very dangerous possible lost of fingers ,,so don't risk it for a biscuit ...

Hi, do you happen to know how to change the steering control module?

  • @sivasuss

Hey, i am making the same change on my 987. The harness on the old one is same as your old airbag and it doesnt fit on the new bag. I have the new harness with the new bag but i am told i need to replace the module in order to prevent airbag warning light. Can you clarify? Thanks

    In 997.1
    Per far funzionare il
    Cambio al
Volante ? Posso farlo con solo riprogrammazione piwis ?
O serve cambiare unità di controllo ?

Great video. Did the airbag light turn on after you reconnected the battery?

no ,,, no errors at all ,,,, apart from PASM and needing to recalibrate my steering column because i replace the clock spring and a new control module ,,,, you won't have to do that or worry about that if you are just replacing the steering wheel for a new one on its own, you should not get any Airbag errors, unless you don't disconnect the battery ''DANGEROUS'' or the Airbag is faulty ALSO ''DANGEROUS''

I have the same exact setup, in the US, left hand drive, and want that multifunction steering wheel to be able to control phone and radio from the wheel. Can you give me the part number or tell me where you bought the wheel, thanks! Great video!

your car should have the function for MF builtin, once you get your new wheel you will need to active it via Porsche PIWIS computer ,,, other good places to find good steering wheels are on Ebay the link below should give you some ideas of costing for new wheels ebay will be a lot reasonable, you can also recover a wheel if they don't have the colour /color you want...

I’m looking to do the same. Where did you get the wheel from? Did you make a continuation video to this?

    • @MIXMASTERRONEDEE
      @MIXMASTERRONEDEE  6 років тому

Karl Moss yes there is a part two but I’ve not uploaded it yet ,,,, it’s about removing the steering module and reprogramming the steering module, I had some problems getting the module setup I’d but everything is working as it should, even with the steering module not having a proper id reference number for the PIWIS ...

MIXMASTER RONEDEE I’m just in the process of doing the same mod, but having trouble getting a steering wheel without pdk, although I believe it’ll still work and the pdk buttons just become obsolete. My PIWIS should be arriving soon so would really appreciate your guidance on how to set it up.

I got the wheel from ebay and the airbag from Porsche, after buying another Airbag from Ebay, i didn't like the looks of the Eastern European i got it from and on close inspection of the bag, it seems it was a back yard refurbish job as when i took it apart it seems as if the bag had already been deployed as some of the thread holding the bag together seem to be loose ... so i just got a new one from Porsche instead ,,, safety first... yes i have a continuation video but haven't uploaded it yet...
