    This really is absolutely incredible technology Italy has developed here. This is the first time anyone has created a guided anti-air artillery shell, it's extremely impressive. Although should we expect anything less from Italy; this is a country that builds all sorts of high-quality engineered products like Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Barettas etc. And it is a country with a great seafaring history, whether the ancient Romans, the Venetians, Genoa, etc. Viva Italia!

      this was 8 years ago, now BAE joins in. This systems saves missiles which are extremely expansive and for a country like AUS this is extremely important. They don't need a ship with 90 VLC, if they can't afford the missiles, I mean could we the current budget load one frigate with 90 missiles, but for other frigates or to hold this missiles in stock in great numbers is impossible!

      there are multiple guns being developed that can do this. US navy 5inch gun has developed this capability at this point, as has the 47mm system. Italy has their 76mm. In general this makes traditional naval guns more effective at shooting down air targets at stand off distances. Seems like a very effective way to deal with drones at stand off range.

      This is showing precision guided shells - you can see how the projectiles maneuver to guide themselves rather than simply coasting along a ballistic trajectory. They use a rotating canard, like Starstreak. The entire guidance system is similar to Starstreak.
      Because of this guidance system, it's able to engage maneuvering targets at long range.

    precisione sbalorditiva! A questo punto si capisce il perchè del limitato numero di VLS (16) Sulle FREMM e sui futuri PPA (Full ed Intermedi).. Questo cannone Otomelara Strales è efficace quanto un Aster 15 a distanze ravvicinate, contro sea skeaming missili antivave, ma ad un costo molto ma molto ridotto. In più è efficace anche contro attachi da barchini e simili..Grande arma, grande tecnologia Italiana.

    • @PosthumousAddress
      @PosthumousAddress 6 років тому +8

      Exactly! DART is so effective, and *inexpensive* that you don't need to carry a lot of Aster missiles. Imagine a ship with four such 76mm guns and two DARDO 40mm; it might not even need a short-range missile system. I haven't been able to find online the cost of each DART shell, but I'm guessing it would be around $50,000. You can't even purchase half of a wing part of an Aster missile for that much.

    • @PosthumousAddress
      @PosthumousAddress 6 років тому +9

      (Metto questo attraverso Google Translate, scusa se è incoerente!) Esattamente! DART è così efficace e poco costoso che non è necessario trasportare molti missili Aster. Immagina una nave con quattro cannoni da 76mm e due DARDO 40mm; potrebbe non essere nemmeno necessario un sistema missilistico a corto raggio. Non sono stato in grado di trovare online il costo di ciascuna shell DART, ma suppongo che sarebbe di circa $ 50.000. Non puoi nemmeno acquistare metà di una parte di ala di un missile Aster per così tanto.

      Tutto giusto, ma io rimpiango quando una nostra fregata era più armata di due incrociatori inglesi, un sistema può sempre guastarsi e dobbiamo considerare la possibilità di attachi di saturazione. Fra l' altro non capisco perché non abbiano ancora realizzato la versione per il 127 mm, così ogni nave avrebbe un' arma in più, oltretutto la più ridotta cadenza di tiro sarebbe compensata dal raggio letale della testata molto maggiore.

    • @vecchiogufo4863
      @vecchiogufo4863 6 років тому +7

      Andiamoci piano, la difesa deve, quando possibile essere a strati successivi, contro un' arma manovrabile é fondamentale la capacità di intercettarla il più lontano possibile, inoltre colpire un missile troppo vicino può salvare la nave dall' affondamento, ma i rottami del missile possono provocare tali danni da rendere la nave cieca e sorda, indifesa contro un' offesa successiva. Più lontano colpisci il missile meglio é. L' ultima difesa e basta va bene per navi non diretamente combattenti, rifornitori, trasporti ecc., che sulle lunghe distanze vengono coperti dalle navi di scorta.

    • @Ezekiel903
      @Ezekiel903 8 місяців тому +2

      the range is 40 kilometer, it has RF beam rider guidance system, theoretically, it can deviate from the drilling axis indefinitely, but that makes no sense, bcz it can start to correct the trajectory as soon as he leaves the bore, but it waits until it reaches the speed necessary to reach the target, this calculations are made in a processor! I hope y'all would be so kind as to make this type of shell that would be compatible with the 5" 54/62 MK 45 gun. It would make the already lethal Arleigh Burke class even more so. I could imagine what this type of round could do fired from a ship with an AESA radar. And there are also multiple other ship classes worldwide using the same gun system all of whom would be turning to Italy for this Revolution seems more appropriate than evolution in large caliber ammunition.

      Italian navy has the most advanced avionics & radar in the world. PAAMS & EMPAR track targets in real time whereas most other radars require 10 seconds for full 360° sweep which is part of the reason hypersonic missiles are difficult to track. But Italian navy has multilayered air defence umbrella under PAAMS which includes STRALES, and Aster missiles. So it's unlikely Brahmos will pose a threat.
