This is definitely my jam#1 I wasn't expecting it to be so upbeat and catchy... No wonder it was a hit
If there is any other Ram Jam you'd like me to react to please let me know.

When your eyes lit up when he said Birmingham 😂😂
The story goes that they told the record label they needed $500 for the video. They used the $500 on weed and beer and shot the vid in the drummer’s backyard.
Heard it was $400.00.
Yeah, the UK version of Birmingham is better than ours.........
@@OneThousandHomoDJs the UK Birmingham's council went bankrupt lol. its a shithole over here as well
Yep that’s the story I heard
@@OneThousandHomoDJsis it?
Ram Jam was given a few hundred bucks and told to make a video. They bought weed and beer and filmed it in the backyard. Legends.
It's very pleasing to see the young generation enjoy this art.
AW, MAN! This is the edited version. The unedited one has a guitar solo that is much longer
I got this straight from their UA-cam channel, didn’t realise it was short
I tried to warn him to do the audio version when I saw this was leading the vote. He must not have seen it.

@MollyBoyTV Yo Molly Lad bro, you got to check out Silverchair song called Tomorrow (the official music video). You can also react to the live performance version
I just Posted the ALBUM Version for him. Hopefully, he'll see it SOON and React to it Also!!! I used to Own the Album, with the Astronauts, by the Ram-Head Pyramid on the Cover. (Sadly, THIS is the Only Song I Liked) Definitely a "One-Hit Wonder" band!
Thats how we rolled in the 70s, back yard BBQ Jam. Black betty is a few things here; It was an African-American RR labor chant to added rhythm to the work, as old as the 1800's... it is a reference to a civil war era gun -- a “musket” called a Black Betty ... it is said the "bam a lam" is a reference to how the musket sounds when fired. Its also a very very old reference to a bottle of whisky from the l820's (this came to this country from England possibly as far back as the 1700’s. In fact, an old term for being drunk is to have been "Kissing Black Betty" (kissing a bottle of liquor)... and of course, as you can hear in the song a beautiful black woman, the singer is smitten by her to the point where he can’t hold it in. Thanx much, Peace
And the bikes just parked up, you could almost smell the weed in the air!! Great times.
@@TheChromeRonin Agree 100%✌🏼✌🏼
Well said... Nice summary.

Bill Bartlett himself said it was a song about Bettie Page in a 2020 interview.

Hell yes

RIP and live forever, Leslie West!
The 70's was the song writers decade...so much variety and so much skill too. The best decade for music ever.
This song, and thunderstruck, is played at literally every single sporting event in the US.
Don't forget Welcome to the Jungle and Crazy Train too...
That's funny because I just commented how the two guitars go so well together, like Malcolm and Angus 😮
The studio version has a much longer guitar solo. Absolutely worth a listen.
60's and 70's absolutely the best eras of music, and it's not even close!
90’s blows that outta the water 💦
I personally think that we had it best from the 1400s to 2024 ngl so many hits from that time period
Nah, 70's and 80's for me. 60's music was kinda cheesy.
Did you live thru all the eras? @@nickkleiber8636
Ram Jam is a one hit wonder. The lead singer was the lead guitarist in a band in the 1960s called -the Lemon Pipers-which was another one hit wonder-their hit Green Tambourine was a #1 song in the US in 1968.
Green Tambourine was my first favourite song. I was 4. I still love it.
It was a cover, too. I don't think anyone knows who first wrote this since it's a Civil War song about the cannon fire, but there are recordings from the 1930s.
Wtf i didnt realize that 😂
I did not know that. Thank you. 😊
1st time I saw you sing along. Check Eagles 7 bridges road live.
Man MollyBoy you are in for a wild ride …… the 70’s - 80’s -90’s ……..
crazy how much there is for you to discover 😎
I think black Betty is the gun, and child gone wild is the bullet.
One hit wonder. Staple of classic rock and pure rock radio.
This video was recorded in one of the guys backyard. Great video, great song!
Ive even seen a rumor that their budget was a bag of weed, but who knows
One of the shortest, but also, one of the greatest songs to pump you up, that you’ll ever hear. Enjoy, young man!
I have listened to this song for 50 years,,,, still good
This is about a few things but One is, that the soldiers called their muskets Black Betty. Worth doing some research but GREAT SONG!
dude! LOVE the dip back into Classic Rock and Roll!!! so many great genres...
1975 for Ram jam. There's an English band called Led Zeppelin that's pretty good. The people my age are going to laugh at me saying that.
Pretty good?? Fkn legendary, you mean! But Pink Floyd's better.
"Black Betty had a child, bam a lam, damn thing gone wild, bam a lam"
Black Betty is actually a really old song ... the oldest recordings of this song go back to the 1930’s ... the song itself likely goes back into the 1800’s.
There are a few versions of what “Black Betty” actually means ... it is a reference to a civil war era gun -- a “musket” called a Black Betty ... it is said the "bam a lam" is a reference to how the musket sounds when fired. “Black betty” is also a very very old reference to a bottle of whisky from the l820's (this came to this country from England possibly as far back as the 1700’s. In fact, an old term for being drunk is to have been "Kissing Black Betty" (kissing a bottle of liquor). Other references lost to the annals of time have been attributed to this song as well ... there is quite a bit in wikipedia on the song. The cadence and melody of the song may have started out in an English military march, pre-1900 ......... and of course, as you can hear in the song Black Betty is also a reference to a woman.
The history of RamJam is a complicated one and the fact that they have only one big hit would seem to be because of the instability of the band, not a lack of talent. And not to muddy the water too much more, that video was of the group of guys that _became_ RamJam ... like I say; off in the weeds already.
The earliest _recorded_ versions of the song appear to be from the 1920’s-1930’s. Like many roots music songs, Black Betty was also sung as an old african-american work song ... sang when working in the fields ... or when "dancing on the rails" as a "Gandy" (work straightening railroad tracks by hand).
As far as those old, old versions of the song, you can still listen to some of these, and you can hear some of the lyrics from the Ram Jam version actually *in* those very old songs ... If you’d like to check them out .. Here are two recordings of the song from the 1930's, first is sung by Mose 'Clear Rock' Platt ... ua-cam.com/video/BgvdA1MGCYo/v-deo.html ....
and the second version from 1933 is sung by James Iron Head Baker ... ua-cam.com/video/c4XFXJSQQOI/v-deo.html.
In addition to the musket version; _Black Betty had a child_ was the successor which didn't shoot straight, hence _Damn thing gone wild._
From my generation...the greatest generation. NO music today comes close. One hit wonder.
Molly me boy! You just got introduced it Southern Metal. And They rode it to the end!
Now - I NEED some Scottish Metal - Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak or Whisky in The Jar. Or the Cover by Metallica of Whisky in the Jar!
You should also tell us why you and your lady friend love Hip Hop and Rap the genres overlap since the 80’s
You Still Rock Molly! Glad to see you genuinely having a good and great time!
Great reaction. It was, from the 70s. Another 70s treat, is a song called “ Hocus Pocus” The group is called “Focus”. It was on the midnight special. Introduced by Gladys Knight. That’s the best version. You will love it. It puts me in a good mood like this one does. 😁👍🏾
I concur with Focus!
Molly Boy, Oh you have to watch that band on Midnight Special.
Everyone thinks his guitar is a Gold Top. It isn't. He stripped the finish off and we're looking at the natural wood.
This was back in the 70’s, I literally wore this tune out BAM BA LAM😂
Of course the video is a must because, well... We've all seen it and it's too cool and fun not to watch. Yet, the studio album version of the song has a much longer guitar solo that is definitely worth a listen so you should check that one out too in your spare time :D
Been looking forward to this one!!! Black Betty is one of them songs, that's never long enough... We need more time to enjoy the song... so lets play it again
May I recommend " Peter Frampton Do You Feel Like We Do Midnight Special 1975 FULL" Hope I can get some support on this one!!! It will blow your mind!!!
" Do You Feel Like We Do " is one of them songs that is long enough.
Hello MollyBoyTV, if you are interested in another song near this era but just prior try this video: UA-cam video:
GRAND FUNK RAILROAD - Inside Looking Out 1969
I literally LOL watching you react and enjoy this phenomenal performance. It’s the 70’s baby!
It's so awesome to see the young generation transform into an old soul. You are absolutely 💯 correct, music today is not the done like this.
If you want to hear a new sound:
Jethro Tull- Locomotive Breath LIVE (1982, Rockpop Concert)
It was so great to hear a younger person say that the music 🎶 🎵 back in the 70's,80's,and 90's was so much better then what we get today! So true. They don't make rock music like they once did that's why so many people listen to the older stuff compared to what they try to pass off as rock now with the exception of maybe Dirty Honey which you may want to check out. They remind me of the older rock. Loved your reaction to this song. Has always been a favorite of mine, just wish they would have come out with more hits. But Black Betty does rock!
Definitely 70's. We had the best decade in .music. I'm 70 now. Make you look differently at us oldies now?
This song was HUGE when it came out.🤘😎
I'm FROM the 70's and enjoyed your reaction - very sincere, very authentic. THNX!
Glad u picked it up mate...☘️
Once you start doing a variety of 70s music, you'll absolutely love it. I grew up in the 70s/80s and we had the best music & we also grew up listening to the great 60s music. Glad you're not limiting yourself to only heavy metal.
dude, you really make this 70s kid 80s teen so happy. i love that you love that people play real instruments, use their real voices, and perform songs from their brains, not talking to a fake drum beat or lettinga computerdo it all. there is hope lol keep going down the rock rabbit hole. its limitless. from chuck berry to Ratt. enjoy! our young padewan. the force of rock is with you! peace from the capitol of Grunge, Seattle ❤
This song never gets old. Love it.
Lol I was going to suggest this soon it's a banger. Not metal but damn good fun song
What a crazy song, I love it!
The gong guy is wearing a Misses jacket I owned back then. The exact same one I purchased from French Novelty boutique. He must've borrowed it from his girlfriend for the video!
YES!!!! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS SONG!!! I'm 55 years old, and this is one of my go-to favorite songs!! It has to be on all of my play lists!!
Thank you for doing Black Betty! I loved seeing your reaction!
I can tell you are enjoying this one. This band was super tight. Great one
Yes , Ram Jam jammed ! If you want more guitar , have you heard of Ten Years After ? Alvin Lee on guitar will blow you away ! And Ram Jam had a few cool tunes !
I really enjoy watching your reactions! When it comes to music, you just "get it!" Well done.
If no one has mentioned, there's an extended version with a longer guitar/drum collaboration I think you would seriously enjoy
It's always been a gem of a tune... And the video always reminds me of just hanging with friends, grilling burgers and drinking beer and having a fun Saturday! Good times... Rock on brother.. 🤟
I hurried here to see that literal first reaction. 😂😂 Did not disappoint.
Love seeing young'uns discover the music they missed.
In my 53 year old ass opinion... this is the best one hit wonder ever.
Now, that's just a fun song!!! We played it at all the bonfires and backyard BBQ parties!
Grand Funk Railroad…Must be LIVE….OUTSIDE LOOKING IN…7 million views…CLASSIC!
Iconic song.
It's really interesting how younger generations react to Classic Rock or older music in general.
Nice Mate.
A few months back a lady posted this music video and explained that the singer was her dad! Sadly I don't have the link to that.
It's good to see younger people now appreciating the music we did in the 70's. One of the best music eras ever.
1977 and this song needs to be a lot longer this is one badass song
I HAD THIS ALBUM WHEN I WAS YOUNGER. YESSS, 1970'S. I'M OLD, I LOVE MUSIC!! AWESOME REACTION MOLLYBOY 💙!! 😊🩷🤘✌️
First recording of this song was in the 1930’s by James ‘Iron Head’ Baker, a traditional folk singer back in the day. Was imprisoned in a prison farm where this music was first recorded and archived for many years.
They have recorded other songs but yes this was their one hit wonder in the 1970s...It's great that we are all lucky enough to experience it still in this era...Keep on Rocki'n!
You, my friend, are such a good reactor. So many reactor wannabees dont have the vocabulary or the feels to really get the music, and they fall flat in their reactions. But not you MollyBoy. You feel it, and even though you may not always have the words, you STILL are able to convey very well how much the music moved you, how well you connected with it, you make us feel what you feel, which is the same thing WE FELT when we lived it. And THATS why we tune in to watch a bloke listen to music. You let us relive and REFEEL what we felt in our youth with this music. Good job, you! Keep doing what yer doing...
MTV didn't happen until 1980 or so and this was pre MTV. I am amazed they even recorded this on video.
Brilliant driving song. Everyone belts out the lyrics to this when it comes on the radio.
Black Betty has been rerecorded by a few different bands but Ram Jam gave it life. If you like this type of music might I suggest Boston (More than a feeling), Styx (Blue collar man), Queen (1985 Live Aid performance) & Led Zeppelin (Kashmir). I was very lucky to catch Stevie Ray Vaughan and Joe Cocker together. Joe Cocker is another one that gets overlooked in reviews and should get more love. Joe Cocker (With a little help from my friends).
This is currently a popular song with reactors right now...and for good reason! Amazing song, great reaction brotha! Keep up the great work! I love the diversity on your channel. Looking forward to your Billy Idol reactions once you get them up.
well friend this is probably the most played hick wedding song ever .. the video is solid gold!! ❤💯🔥
I remember this band in the 70's! I was probably 15 at the time, partying on the beaches of the Missouri/Mississippi river. There were about 1000 boom boxes playing the song at the same time on KSHE radio!
Yes, we were spoiled rotten as kids born in the 60s with such phenomenal music. whether it be our parents music or what was currently on the radio… no matter what station you spun the dial to or genre. It was all great music… can I go back to that time now?
I grew up in the 70’s with bands just like this jamming in our front yard!🥰🎶People in the neighboring town 5 miles away could hear & would call then come over to party with us lol Such fun fun memories ♥️
This was a jam for real. They really just shot it in their back garden (with post facto studio help)
George thorogood and the destroyers - One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer
Zz top - la grange
🤘😎🤘
Awesome reaction! This song is just fun! Happy to see you appreciating older music. It just rocked!
“…it’s The Law…” 😂😂 agree 100% Ok, I’m IN so keep ‘em coming Young Sir, please 💕🇺🇸🙏
Now,mate; you're crossing into the late 70's early 80's rock!! So much to cover!!! LETS GO!!!!!
Hahahahaha I love your excitement ohhhh mate the 70s best bands. I was born in 1965 & I'd wished I'd been born earlier to have been able to be at Woodstock!!! I love that groovy rock .... I love guitar & drums too 😊
A factory in Birmingham England made a musket rifle with a dark walnut stock nicknamed the Black Betty and legend has it that British soldiers had a marching cadence called black Betty
EPIC!!!
It’s amazing what can be done with a group of friends, musical talent and weed can accomplish.
Wow. Beautiful reaction. You intently and passionately listened, and allowed us to do the same. Thank you, from Tel Aviv Israel. (PS...read that this was filmed at an old farmhouse on Long Island, about an hour from New York City USA)
I have heard this song one million times lol. I usually skip the reactions. However an average person needs to hear this atleast 100 times and I wanted to be here for your 1st time. So excited for you to do this type of classic rock! You are correct about it being a crying shame that music isn’t like that anymore. Great reaction!
Love how these old tunes affect you... keep up the good work and tunes!
This song has a long long history.... This video was recorded in 1977 on Long Island, New York. The lead singer is Bill Bartlett, he was the lead singer in a band called 'Starstruck' prior to being the lead singer in this video with the band in this video. Ram Jam did not actually play this song.... they just filmed it to look like they were playing this song. The music in this video came from the band call StarStruck with Bill Bartlett. Also, the music is totally from the StarStruck album.... but they did some heavy edits to that StarStruck song to make this song/video.....and yes, Bill Bartlett was in both bands... he purchased the rights to this song from the StarStruck band members and then created a new band called Ram Jam....Bill Bartlett is NOT the lead singer for this band (Ram Jam)... actually Myke Scavone is the lead singer for the band... but obviously not in this video... Myke Scavone is the guy clapping his hands on the left side of video....(Left of Bill Bartlett)
This song is actually a country music song..... check out Starstruck Black Betty....
He is singing about Betty Page... Betty Page is a chick that was well known in the 1950's, and was known as Black Betty back then ... he just plain ol thinks she was sexy....
Man, your reaction to the Birmingham, Alabama things was awesome. That shit cracked me up.
Recorded 1977, the year i graduated from high school
I remember dirt roading it in my yellow 1977 thunderbird with this cranking on the radio!
I miss those old muscle cars!
LOVED your reaction. can't believe still people reacting who've never heard.... great job... love your appreciation for the just total organci feel of the piece
Can help but smile and sing along!!
Oh man this was a staple at dance and parties out in the country in NB, Canada in the mid 90s.
The spiderbait cover if this song is amazing ...Great reaction
G'Damn MollyBoy, thanks for the banger track!!! The best 2 minute song to ever exist. Keep up the great songs dude.
If ever a one hit wonder deserved to be in the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of fame this is it. BTW, there is a long version. This was the a.m. radio version.
Appreciate you're ancestry.
The eagles, hotel california live is one of the absolutely best guitar solos ever.
Just imagine being in this era. So many new types of bands coming out of everywhere. It was all new to us and was amazing! Todays bands just try to copy them.
Great reaction. Their time changes were incredible. 🤠🤘🔥🤘
🇬🇧 This was a hit in 1977, (I was 13 years old!). Oh, buckle up Mollyboy. There are soooo many bangers from the 60s, 70s 80s & 90s for you to react to. Today was the first time I saw ANY of your videos pop up, I saw it was Ram Jam & "Black Betty" so I thought I'd give it a go, and.... I really enjoyed your reaction, sooooo, you have a new sub. Keep up the good work. 🎼🎶👍
THIS BAND WAS A ONE HIT WONDER
The uncut longer studio version was always played on Detroit radio in the 70's. Worth checking out.
On Fire!!!!
So glad I found this channel...you are a great reactor to watch. Good job man!
Check out the long version it rocks!!!!
