I’m one of those folks that enjoyed John Carter, at the time I remember suggesting to a number of people. It’s a fun romp. I think the challenge is that for modern audiences it felt derivative but for those that know, it’s where so much of Star Wars & science fiction lore today was sourced. Worth checking out. #JusticeForJohnCarter!! 🤣
re: Public domain, John Carter celebrated his centenary in 2011, I still think the Burroughs estate has a stranglehold on the license as they took Dynamite comics to court for their use of Dejah Thoris and won, so again with the continual useage you’d have to be looking at a very specific era of John Carter to produce anything under the banner of Warlord of Mars. 🤓

I very much appreciate the need to have a members group that pays for extra content. That said even the three or so dollars each week or each month add up and there are just so many little expenditures that some of us just can’t afford to join, even though we would like to.my son and I very much enjoy your wit and commentary on comic books as a whole and will take what we can get without becoming members. Thank you for all the two of you do.

I agree with Richard the Silver Age of X-men is very underrated and overlooked
People will pay $700 for the Claremont stuff but not pay $175 for the 1st appearance of Sauron
    X-men 49 is also overlooked

I got the collector gene from my dad. He was never into comics unfortunately but so it goes. He's in his late 60s now and only recently started letting go of some of his treasures. He really enjoys setting up at trade shows, farmers markets, etc. It's a good excuse to get out, interact with other collectors and make some money. Dragging boxes of collectibles around isn't for everyone at that age but it's definitely a good option for some

Everyone is concerned about leaving a burden to their family. Pretty sure the people with selling superman are saying what a burden all the way to the bank.

What’s up you old farts! Just a 23 year old collector giving his two cents on last week’s hot topic. People have been collecting forever and that won’t change with us Gen Zers. Comic book properties have played a huge part in my generations adolescence. I know once kids my age get some real disposable income they’ll start collecting the source material of the MCU movies they grew up watching, which are old stinky comic books! I have several friends my age who are already apart of the hobby or fascinated by it enough to eventually pick it up at some point. Wrapping things up, don’t worry about the price of your books dropping or them becoming obsolete because I sure am hell not! Great show and have a great week guys.

Marvel Premier. Wonder Man looks like The Phantom with torn coat which (coat and hat) The Phantom used as a disguise. Maybe that was the reason for the flashy costume.

Really depends how many you have and how many you want to keep and what you want collecting to be for you after the sell off. For me it's one 2 drawer dresser which holds about 5 short boxes of books - so they are now neatly talked away in a dedicated cabinet. In order to really keep enjoying the hobby from that point (for me) I think a 1 in 1 out SELLto BUY one rule (or a dump some at the library, donate, gift and or swap really has to be in place (for me). My comicshop seems to have a nice sell/consign policy - can also contact cyberspace and the LCS or antique dealers to help move books out... I think selling is the key - it's not easy!

Also going through your collection and appreciating them having a second look or a second reand deciding whether you really want the book why you got it if it fits your collecting desires anymore helps with the purge and the swappreciate what you have It's supposed to be the most important part... not just the hunt or new discovery

I loved the movie. I read all the books by ERB and they were imaginative and action packed. The movie honored the original books very much. The issue I think was marketing- they never should have called it John Carter - no one knew who John Carter was.

I understand why Richard was feeling "meh" about the new shows, but as I've gotten older (closer to 50 than 40) I've come to realize two things: 1. stop watching trailers/teasers and 2. Not everything is going to be aimed at me. I didn't even bother with Ms Marvel or Moon Girl because I know it's not my thing so rather than attempt to watch and then be negative about them, I just left 'em for the intended audience and waited for something more my style. That being said, I found Wonder man #1 in a newsstand and it didn't shoot up to $1k so I know the series is gonna flop 😂

Gerard Jones, writer of Wonder Man's 1991 ongoing series, did over four years of jail time for possession of child pornography. Let's not skirt around the edges here, he may have been a decent writer but what he did in his private life makes him the lowest of the low.
One more issue to go John: Rocket Girls is a four-parter and you now have three issues. Don Marquez (DM Publishing) does everything in this series: writer, penciller, inker, colourist and letterer. And of course those amazing covers.
I'm one of those people who will defend John Carter the movie, it's fun and true to ERB's original (within limits). However, it cost so much to make, and John Carter is simply not that well known to the general public these days, that the movie was never going to make a profit.
Savage Sword Of Conan was always the first title I would read each month in the 70s and early 80s. The title fell away somewhat after Roy Thomas left the writing but it remained fun and some of the artists excelled with more story pages to work with.

What has been done to the Scooby Doo characters, especially Daphne and Velma, is obnoxious and pathetic, nothing more than soft porn. But I think the original cartoon Scooby Doo version of the characters, in reruns, will keep the gang relevant despite the current crassness.

How many of the 30-something comic influencers are reading comics? Do you think Swag, Bry, Comic Tom, Golden Age Guru, Automatic Comics are all reading their largely unreadable 1941 books on the nightstand every night? As long as there’s money in it, flea market and scavenger reseller types will always show up to try and make a buck.
