Tons of great stuff there! Favorite by a mile is that Creepy Things Charlton book. Great cover, and very tough to find in nice shape, even if it's not worth much!
Excellent video and great finds. Darkhawk's 1st cameo appearance is in Marvel Annual Stockholder Report for 1991. It's in a section talking about new characters/comics. It was a collector's item for a hot minute and very offbeat collectible. In under 3 weeks after discovering the channel, your videos are in my must watch UA-cam subscriptions. Thanks!
$13 into 13 books is an amazing deal. Any dollar book depending on the condition is definitely worth the read and the appreciation of the art. Found a wolverine single issue called the man in the pit. By Jason Aaron. That’s amazing read!!!
I’m the one who brought up the late run G.I. Joe comic in the previous episode. That’s pretty cool you remembered the comments and kept an eye out for them.
Nice comic finds and great story about your kiddo getting a deal on those cards. You often use the word serendipitous, however, you have an active part in that by being out and about hunting for comics. Keep it up and thanks for sharing.
Great to see you in my backyard and finding comics at that. Howe Caverns is so cool and Cooperstown is just beautiful this time of year. Nice little stack of vacation pickups. I like that “dubious” Hellboy cameo and I think I want it now lol. Well done my friend
Walt's THOR runs been falling in my lap a lot lately, and I'm not complaining!! I just bought 90% of a guys collection last night and low and behold....THOR;!
I love that X-Men TPB! My mom bought that for me when when it came out (back in '84, if I remember correctly) and I read it to death! The pages literally fell out. I don't know why I've never bothered to track down another copy! Great video!
That’s awesome that Jack found a good deal when I was playing magic I would give away quite a few cards just to get younger players to play. I think I got half of my sons friends to play magic when they was in high school.
9.8 GI Joe 150 is very expensive, I don’t know if you noticed its a newsstand. That book is rare as hell. Probably $1000 or more in 9.8, even more with the sig
Great dollar finds!! So happy for your son to get such a deal. I use to play Magic with my son all the time when he was still in school. Will definitely check out that flea market next time I am in that area. I think there's an outdoor one close by also during the warmer months.
Love these places - my family roll their eyes when they see me find these as they know I can't help myself. GI Joe Special Missions and GI Joe might be the first books I ever bought. If I was trying to put that run together, I wouldn't hold it against it as long as the sig was from someone who worked on the book.
I was watching a channel called comic den, today video was about a comic community event, he also has a much older friend that has something more established . I think you would enjoy going to their style events but figure it's far away. 😊
Hafa adai Mike! Great find of that Uncanny X-men Dark Phoenix Run! I have the same TPB in my PC. John Byrne is my All-Time Favorite Artist and Writer! “Enjoy The Chase!” IslandJ
That's so cool that Lil Lunch Money got such an awesome deal on those cards. He should be telling his friends to hunt for cards in Strange and unusual places. 😂😂 Pretty great haul, Mike. You can't go wrong with some classic Charlton horror books, and to find one with Mike Zeck artwork is fantastic.
I got Batman 201 from a old antique store/junk store when we went camping I guess you could say that was a similar experience and could be considered strange and unusual
In regards to the GI Joe book that was signed. If you got it for a dollar? Then if the signature increases the value, wonderful, but if it decreases the value your dollar book could be worth $0.50. All in all you got at least 10 bucks worth of story out of it. Lol
Even though I had all the X-Men at that time, I picked up that X-Men gradebook back when published because covered an interesting period of characters. Don't have the issues now but have the tradebook. Remember sitting down and enjoying reading stories again back then...
X-men #1 special edition by jim has omega red sketch art inside in the back. I'm thinking that might be the one that technically makes it omega reds first cameo appearance. But it's all about popularity and concenus(of sorts) that makes something a first app or cameo app. Still cool comic you got!
Man lots of cool books for $1. Yes, Marvel Premiere #55 for a buck as someone previously mentioned caught my eye. Everyone has different things that their eye catch. Discount from $70 to $1 for all the cards? Sweet deal for your son.
Funny i only knew about gi joe cartoons but not the comics only later. Found out many kids around me at the time were more into the comics than the cartoon but qe both collected the toys. Sorry about creatimg multiple comments. Felt that each topic tou mentioned deserved it own seperate comment lol.
I think the notion that a signature from anyone who worked on a book could reduce the value is insane. Purist or not, I feel that if one can't appreciate the added value a signature from someone who worked directly on the book provides, they can't really be that much of a comic fan.
I started reading the uncanny x men a bit ago, mainly because you always talk about how incredible it is. I just finished reading days of future past and it blew me away. Also dark phoenix saga was amazing, but the mutant x story plot is what amazed me the most. I have never heard anyone talk about it so when I read it I was incredibly surprise by it(it is my second favorite x men story so far, right behind days of future past). I want to read more x men stories, so besides uncanny xmen, what stories do you guys recommend?
@ ahh yes, I’m guessing you are a Star Wars fan knowing that species. I believe both Duros and Neimoidians are related and are offshoot species from one another. I would say it’s kind of like comparing a British person to an Australian.
Body language. lol Yeah I have seen that. At an estate sale a guy was kneeling in front of 4 boxes of records. I started to bend down to. look at one of the boxes. He saw me and then hugged all 4 boxes not letting me in. I said to him. Really? And he growled at me. I moved on and went back later.
Did Mike Mignola confirm that Next Men was indeed his character? Or was it just a crazy coincidence that a character drawn by Byrne and named HellBoy was the same character as Mignola intended?
The guy before you made it clear with his body language that he wasn't letting you go through the boxes ahead of him? Try a polite "Excuse me" and if that doesn't work then start looking over his shoulder or go through the comics yourself that he has just been through. His sense of entitlement needs to be knocked down a few notches. Charlton's supernatural anthologies from the mid-70s are fun and it's always interesting to see the early work of artists who became popular later in their career. An obscured poster in the background of a panel does not rate as a character's first appearance for me: the character has to be doing something, interacting with other characters in some way and preferably one of them should mention that character's name. Amazing Heroes wasn't a fanzine, it was a professional magazine published by Fantagraphics Books and aimed at those for whom comics were a hobby, as opposed to Fantagraphics' The Comics Journal which is more a critically analytical publication. The X-Men trade would make a great addition to anyone's collection.
That's a Spawn #1 Newsstand! That's an awesome $1 pick up!!
Sold a newsstand 9.8 couple of years ago for $1100, kind of wish I still had it but it was a good price.
Great haul! Lots of 90’s goodness in there! Great story with your son and the magic cards!
Newsstand spawn has solid value! Awesome $1 grab!
was going to say that
I'm Very happy for your son. Great pick up for him. You got a great deal on the books you picked up. Good cheap reading!

That spawn 1 is a newsstand nice find
The spawn 1 in newsie as well! 🤯
I agree with the cooment above about the spawn 1 newsstand. Def a great book to add to your trade pile.

AMAZING HEROES by the pile as well as THE COMIC READER and COMIC INTERVIEWS
Awesome your son got a great deal …the smile alone is worth it!
Oh man I gotta get the amazing heroes fanzine! The Omega Red part is awesome but it’s also a CIGAR cover! 🔥 thanks for showing me this Mike!

@@Spirit_Comics doh, can’t catch em all!
Great find on the Spawn 1 newsstand. Met Larry Hama a few years ago, really nice guy. Bought a Daredevil sketch from him.
that Spawn 1 is a newsstand, worth much more than the direct edition! Huge pick up for a buck!

Larry Hama is usually very accessible for signatures. Him being from New York, he'll probably be at a nearby show.

I need to go out hunting more often…you’re giving me a little bit of hope! Lol
You guys in America have so many places to go. We have so few places that are comic stores or flea markets in Canada.
Europe is the worst regarding US comics....
And then there's Asia where you can hardly find big key issues, But if you get lucky you find a low grade grail
Love these places - my family roll their eyes when they see me find these as they know I can't help myself. GI Joe Special Missions and GI Joe might be the first books I ever bought.

That spawn 1 is a newsstand you might want to get it cleaned pressed and graded because the newsstand is not common at all like the direct edition.

What a fun time for not just you, but the whole family!

Amazed that SPAWN 1 and 2 were in $1 box...!
Xmen 1 has a preview of onega red too. At least the gate fold cover. Not sure if that book predates #1
The only 90s new super heroes character i never bought for their first app/issue was slapstick.
That GI Joe is a newsstand which makes it even more scarce 👍
