Can I just make it clear this sketchbook is amazing but beyond the standard of what you would need for gcse! I have just finished my portrait project and it estimated at an a* and I haven't done half the amount of work or writing!Do not think this is what you need for an a* as it's not! This is a-level standard and you can easially achive an a* with out this level of work then again saying that still try to produce as much quality work as possible
i found this video a while ago, and i just love the art and music and general vibe of it, i watch it whenever i've had a bad day to cheer me up. i'm a year 9 artist who wants to take art for GCSE, and this gave me a really lovely idea of my work-to-come. you are incredibly talented, i wish i had anywhere near as much talent as you
i’m a year 9 and i genuinely thought i’d be able to get an a* until i watched this video. there go my art school dreams edit: i dropped art half way through year 11 because i had a depressive episode and couldn't keep up with the coursework :) i was predicted a 9 though and i got 9 A*s and 2 As for the rest of my gcses
Wow this is amazing :o I wish I'd looked at this before I started GCSE art, I found it so hard to organise my ideas into pieces that flowed in the book but you seemed to do it so well! :D
I'm going into year 10 and starting my GCSE's things like this are very motivating and it's just really nice to have an art video with this sort of vibe, I think the one thing I particularly like was that you use different colours for skin so that was inspiring and I'll be sure to take that into my art work so thanks :))
My school is different now we have to choose our own subject of what we study instead of being given them, in some ways it's good because we can choose a subject we enjoy but then we have to think of our own designs arghhhhh! Btw this is so good!
your sketchbook is amazing! i was wondering about the fold out a3 pages in the book, were they like that when you bought the sketchbook or did you make them yourself? if they were there, would you be able to tell me where you bought your book, I'm starting my art gcse in the fall and i thought it would be perfect to use. thanks so much
Currently doing my end of year 9 exam topic in art (Taking GCSE art next year) and I'm doing the topic "Fastenings"... Its a pretty rubbish topic really but I hope I get a better one for my actual GCSE 😂
Nicola Allison in my first year, year 9, I wasn't allowed to choose and we were all given the topic natural forms but in year 10 when I did my exam we were given a few topics to choose from so then you get a choice. But it may just depend on which school you go to.
Hi! This was amazing! You're art is stunning, and the idea's were so creative. :) I'm choosing my GCSE's (fun i know) in the next couple of months, and am trying to decide whether or not to take art, and this helped loads thank you x
Your work is amazing! It's really impressive that your work was such good quality even in Year 10. Most GCSE books start off really poor but get better and better over time but your book looks incredible on every page, you can still see how your technique has improved though
Wow this is such good quality- im not nearly as good, im one term into year 10. Im great at analysis tho its such a good space filler, my art teacher is giving me an a2 sketchbook next half term. Mine will be a lot more depressing tho because i want to do mental health as my personal project
Ive picked art for my options but I cant draw faces!! I enjoy photography so that could come in handy! However, even though I am still in year 8 we have started our DT subjects now...
wow I did literally almost exactly the same concept for my GCSE, I based my work on Saville too and scanned my families faces and then did oil paintings from that research for my end piece, wow thats rly weird haha, beautiful sketchbook :)
omg these are incredible. Last year I had the theme 'natural still life' which sucked and now I have 'wrapped' which doesn't really interest me, I'M SO STUCK!
Your work is really good, I'm in year 11 and doing my project based around textures and faces. Where did you get your resources (to draw from) from? Or inspiration for theses?
Do you have to do realistic for art to get a good grade or could you do animation style drawings like the ones in tim burton's films etc and still be able to do well ? x
What type of sketch book is that? It looks like it lays flat pretty easy and seems like it held the media really well. Your work was amazing btw and the music fit really well
All of these books I have seen, people seem to use a realistic type style. Is that a necessity? When I choose my subjects I would defiantly like to choose art as I draw every day and it's part of my life, but from what I have seen from my school and books like yours, they are all a semi similar realistic type style. I can work in a realistic style, but I prefer a more abstract style and lots of the people in art collage who have shown of their sketchbooks, look a bit more like mine. Less realistic. If you could answer, it would be lovely thanks xx
I think you have to display a wide range of techniques and styles so i'm sure it isn't necessary for you to produce realistic paintings at all. I have studied abstract art in my current A2-Level book and it's fine. Maybe look at your exam board's specification that might help x
Is it a bit odd to ask what year you are in at the moment? I'm in year nine and currently choosing my options for next year; and I'm guessing it depends on what topics you either get to pick from or that your school picks! I'm guessing that if you choose an artist like Andy Warhol to research then you can inject more of a cartoonist flair into your work but I don't know xxx
Hi, I'm in year 11 and currently doing the exam part of the course. I have chosen the theme 'contrasts' but am struggling for artist reference - i have only found caravaggio for light and dark and reel adams for young and old. I really want to study contrasting emotions. Do you have any idea of any artists that look at contrasts? Your work is amazing btw :)
Hey man!! Your sketchbook is wonderful and I really well done. I was wondering whether you are a part of Cambridge? If so, is this your 6th Assignment (Coursework) for 50% of your mark??
Hey, you're so gifted with your art and congrats on the grade! I was just wondering what sketchbook you've used as my sketchbooks always have pen bleeding through the other side of the page?
Thanks :) I write about their choice of palette, style, umm texture, interpretation..what they might have wanted to show in their work umm what i think went well ( and not well) in my study and technique/medium I have used x Also talk about how the study of their work inspired your own work or is going to inspire your work x
amazing work! what type of things did you include in your project 'journeys' as i'm struggling to think of what to add to mine! help would be appreciated! x
Thanks:) Hmm...well it was my first project and unfortunately I didn't really relate it to the title much, but you could look at Steve Mccurry (he's a photographer but his work could be useful to your project) xx
Did you get time at the start of year 10 doing random topics? That's what I'm doing at the minute but it hasn't been specified whether its going to be submitted as coursework or not... We basically just do a page of research and then plan a final piece. Did anyone else experience this and was it coursework or not? :p
+Cherry S The grades we received in our mocks were our predicted grades and as I put the mock preparation and final 'mock' piece in my sketchbooks it did count I guess :)
I'm not sure whether it depends on your school when you get them back but with mine we got them back in around Sep/Oct time the following school year after getting results in the summer xx
I was just wondering how you found the artists you used to base your work on? Because I struggle finding interesting artists sometimes. Your work is lovely by the way! ^-^
My teacher has some books on the BP Portrait Award they're really useful for finding portraiture artists :-) websites like behance and Instagram are useful too xx
hey! i'm wondering about your 'journey' project. right now I'm in year 11 and our theme is journey too and I want to know how does the things that you did in this project has to do with journey? because i want to do something but i have no ideas. id really appreciate it, if you replied. thanks xx
To be honest I don't think it really related to the title as well as my other sketchbooks did, have a look at Steve McCurry's work ( he's a photographer who travels around the world documenting the effects of war/culture so maybe you could include his work in your Journeys project... maybe look at a range of art movements and the influences they've had on artists? not tooooo sure sorry !
I would definitely say quantity but it's okay to leave some things unfinished and include quick rough sketches too (which i did near the end to fill my book up a bit) x

That might be okay 8 years ago

i found this video a while ago, and i just love the art and music and general vibe of it, i watch it whenever i've had a bad day to cheer me up. i'm a year 9 artist who wants to take art for GCSE, and this gave me a really lovely idea of my work-to-come. you are incredibly talented, i wish i had anywhere near as much talent as you
+Jess Swapp Thank you so much for your sweet comment:) It just takes practice and I'm sure you are very talented so keep at it :)x
So did you take art??
Not joking I've watched this 40+ times
mintyponeh Same 😂😂
One of the most interesting sketchbook I've seen so far and I've seen a lot!! Well done!!
+Lee Anne Bourque thanks :)
The tones in your art are awesome- I love the hair page the most! Honestly, this is so fantastic. Thanks for the inspiration!
i’m a year 9 and i genuinely thought i’d be able to get an a* until i watched this video. there go my art school dreams
edit: i dropped art half way through year 11 because i had a depressive episode and couldn't keep up with the coursework :) i was predicted a 9 though and i got 9 A*s and 2 As for the rest of my gcses
you dont need an a* to go to art school..? most will want a separate portfolio of your work anyway
Lmao hope it's going well now mate
How it go?
This was 2 years ago which means this persons probably in year 11 now and GCSEs r cancelled so I guess they didn’t need to worry that much after all😂
@@MAli-ms8sn lmao i ended up not doing art for my gcses. i probably could've gotten an a* based on a* sketchbooks in my school though
Wow this is amazing :o I wish I'd looked at this before I started GCSE art, I found it so hard to organise my ideas into pieces that flowed in the book but you seemed to do it so well! :D
LilKatFan Thank you :)

Enjoyed these books for the art. I felt you captured some things very well, very touchingly. Thank you for sharing.
thank you:)

Same!! I'm currently really struggling with ideas ;(( ??x
Super talent, loving the sketchbook
wow this is amazing, i did so little for my art gcse and got an a* but my work wasn't as good as this, may be the annotation that helped with my grade
***** Thanks! I am sure you earned it :)
Fantastic sketchbook- you are reallly skilled. All the best.
omg these paintings are so skillful, u really have a talent
Thanks so much:-)
ur welcome

I love this, I've watched it about 11 times. Your work is so satisfying! And, what song is this?
It's brand new day by kodaline!
I've watched this video so much that whenever I hear this song it reminds me of your video aha, I love your artwork so much x
thanks so much that's lovely to hear :)
This is a really great video with amazing artwork but I can't help but think about how the song is the gogglebox theme tune
your paintings omg youre excelent at this
I'm so glade I found this! Keep uploading!!
I'm choosing this as my option along with history and product design
Exactly what I took
Currently doing my end of year 9 exam topic in art (Taking GCSE art next year) and I'm doing the topic "Fastenings"... Its a pretty rubbish topic really but I hope I get a better one for my actual GCSE 😂
I got 'surfaces' and 'together and/or apart', and these are amazing!
duuuuude this is phenomenalll wowww
thank u :))
Everybody gets good themes :( I've got pop art and I didn't get to choose :(
Pop art isn't that bad 😀 But I guess it depends on what your style is and which artists you like 🎨
We got given Pop art and they are my devour its pages in my book and I am currently graded at an A* so I bet you can do fab too x
Nicola Allison in my first year, year 9, I wasn't allowed to choose and we were all given the topic natural forms but in year 10 when I did my exam we were given a few topics to choose from so then you get a choice. But it may just depend on which school you go to.
I once had to draw bugs for all of year 7 in high school
this sketchbook makes me wanna weep
this is so incredible! I'm just struggling with presenting my art to show how my ideas develop
Nice work:-)

Ive picked art for my options but I cant draw faces!! I enjoy photography so that could come in handy! However, even though I am still in year 8 we have started our DT subjects now...
I was fairly happy with my art book until i watched this :(
Woah, could you please make a video showing us basics on how to draw/paint like that
Our teacher won't let us do sketchbooks and basically doesn't give out A*. The worst part is he's not only the teacher, he's also the examiner fml
Thanks for replying, really appreciate it!xx
And btw I love your work, you're really talented 😊
this really is amazing, some great art is in those books.
Thank you:)
I'm Y12 and you're *already* better at portraits than me dammit you beautiful artist!!!
wow your work is amazing!
How did you learn to draw so beautifully? Your work is amazing!
Your work is amazing! I was wondering how many artists would be enough for an A*? I've currently done 5 but I am aiming for at least 7, any ideas?
i believe that it is not the quantity but the quality (and the linking...)
Le Pandah i did 2 artists on one of my projects and 3 on one and got an A :)
well done this is really good work for year 10 and 11 it looks more like college work.

+I Hol thank you :-) glad it helped
Your artwork is brilliant! what paints do you use for the faces? for my gcse i've done sea life, fragments and messages x
+HannahLewis〈3 thanks so much, I use royal and langnickel acrylics :) but for some paintings I have used Daler Rowney oil paints
Thanks! I'm only really familiar with water colours so i'll try something new (once i've finished my masses of art homework!) x
Where did you get the clear plastic sheets at 0:30? Does anyone know the name for them? Cant find them anywhere
its called acetate :) not sure where from though sorry x
You can get them from hobby craft !
Amazing! How do you write on the black surface?
I used a silver gel pen!
Your art is really amazing! What did you use to write out the written studies, is it just typed on the computer?
Thanks, yep most of them are just typed on word using Courier New font x

You have talent!
Thank you :)))
This is amazing! Where did you purchase your book from? I have been looking for a sketchbook without a ringed spine for ages!
How do you make the page flaps on the pages or is your sketch book like that.
Hey, the sketchbook isn't like that so I simply tape (using masking tape) pages in by attaching them to the page behind so that it folds over.. :)
what font did you use for typing because I love the effect it gives?? xx
Its called Corrier New on word or something like that :D
Sophie Hardyman I
There are many portraits in the second sketchbooks but how are they linked to the theme 'Journeys'?
This is so good! Im doing Art gcse and I cannot cope the amount of work I have to do! How did you make time for yourself?
How do you paint like that? What is that art style called? Thanks :)
Ive got mechanic, organic and organic forms im so looking forward to yr 11 because of this hahaha
Hi, I'm in year 11 and currently doing the exam part of the course. I'm in year 10 and doing contrast. I'm kinda struggling trying structure my piece and connecting the artists
Hey man!! Your sketchbook is wonderful and I really well done.
I was wondering whether you are a part of Cambridge? If so, is this your 6th Assignment (Coursework) for 50% of your mark??
Hey, thanks a lot :) nope, I wish though haha! These are books i produced in years 10 and 11 for my GCSE Fine Art course :) x
Your artwork is so beautiful! I love it! I was just wondering about how you typed on the brown paper, was it with a typewriter? XxxxX
Thanks a lot:) noo I just used brown wrapping paper, cut it to A4 size and put it in the printer! font is courier new :) xx
On your Nick Lepard research page what was the brown paper you printed the text onto?
+Alex Griffiths It was just brown wrapping/craft paper which I cut to A4 size :)
Hey, you're so gifted with your art and congrats on the grade! I was just wondering what sketchbook you've used as my sketchbooks always have pen bleeding through the other side of the page?
Thank you :) I buy them from my school but on the back they say 'Seawhite of Brighton' so I guess that is the brand x
Woow amazing
I needed to do an artist research that did figures tysm
Hello :) could you tell me what type of paint you use ..oil ??.....acrylic ?? And this is amazing by the way
mostly acrylics as I was working in my sketchbook and oil took too long to dry, but the piece at 2:16 and the hair studies I used oil x
Your art is brilliant, can I ask for when you do the study's of the other artists what do you write about?

these are amazing !! I'm taking my GCSE art exam this year and this has really inspired me thank you! what exam board were u with? xx
wow!!!
Question:those painting you did, did you paint them on the book or on a canvas?
Which ones? The pages at 2:14 and 3:22 show photographs of my final pieces which are painted on canvases:) The rest are painted in the book xx
KMN this is so fucking good and my book hasnt got anything good in it. Youve inspired me a bit, I thank you for that.
This is so good .-.
Thank you!:)

Did ur mock count any percentage for ur overall grade???Btw this is really good x
+Cherry S The grades we received in our mocks were our predicted grades and as I put the mock preparation and final 'mock' piece in my sketchbooks it did count I guess :)
do you get given the marked sketchbooks back once they've been graded or do you have to request them??

ok thanks for the reply :)
