I remember watching this in year 10 being so shocked and impressed by your art work and now nearly 2 years later I have a grade 9 in art GCSE this video and many others on UA-cam really helped me achieve the top grade and although my art work is still not as good as yours , it is so much better than what it was back in year 10 , thank you
Wow, thank you so much. That means a lot. I’m so glad I could help you get the grade 9 and congrats! Btw, I’d love to see some of your work! If you feel like sending a few photos dm me on Insta @ilangraphics 🙌🏻
I am a year 10 student doing art gcse but I was feeling a little uneasy with my progress. This video was very helpful and I feel more confident. Thank you!
My daughter is in year 10 and they are not doing much work at all, found out 70% failed it in previous years, so this was so helpful to see what she should be doing. Good luck with your art in the future, you have a great talent :-)
Woah this actually really helped because the layout is simple and not too complex like many peoples work but still looks just as good or maybe even better. Can you guys please give me some ideas for irregular which is my exam topic?
I'm glad you like the video! I also think the simplistic look works really nicely as it is very neat and doesn't always take as much time! I'm terms of 'irregular', I think you could look at what actually makes something irregular? What does the word mean and in what ways does it apply to the things that interest you? I looked a lot at the theme of distortion during my experimentation which I think you could do also if you like. Compare and contrast the difference between regular and irregular and see where you end up! Hope that helps! 😊
Ilan Graphics wow beautiful work! i just subscribed to your channel. youre so talented, a well deserved grade 9. my exam topic is ‘concealment’ do you have any ideas/thoughts/suggestions?
Thank you so much! Glad you like my work! For concealment, have a think about methods of concealment and the sort of things people hide. You could take the theme of hiding something in real life into your artwork, maybe looking at hiding elements throughout a piece, even taking inspiration from things like where's Wally...?! Camouflage...? Remember you can take it in any direction you like as long as you show how you did it so make a detailed mood board and keep experimenting and building on your ideas of the theme. Hope that helped! 😊
Hello everyone! I am going into my second year of GCSE and am set to get an A* in GCSE! I would just like to say that art is a very very time consuming subject. I am doing 8 GCSEs how ever many of you may be doing more than that. If you are doing 10 or more just be aware that you will struggle massively. There is a lot of art to do and not a lot of time to do it. As for those who are in art good luck!
My brother got a 3 in gcse art last year but he didn’t do most of the stuff you did in fact he barely drew in his art book and didn’t do any work. I’m a worst drawer then him and I think if I use some of these I may be able to pass gcse art I have it next year and I’m honestly so nervous your so good at art well done :D

im in year 10 currently and i was struggling to think of ways to lay out my work because i didnt want to go with the brown ripped paper or tea stained pages that im seeing others do a lot this was really helpful my teacher said my work is around a grade 7 so i didnt want to lower my grade with bad formatting or not having the right content this video was clearer and more helpful than the things my teacher has said she just told us to make this that and go
My theme is moments in time. It doesn't sound too bad, but i have to use my 'own' photos so i can't look at key events in time, key architecture or anything :(. Also your sketchbook is outstanding! it made me realized what I've done wrong. I got my mock grade back and i didn't do as well as i hope. It annoys me since my teacher says it was outstanding (which i was unsure about) but then didn't give me the grade i wanted. Thanks to your video i now understand my mistakes. My work was too chaotic and i was letting my creativity go too wild that it took away quality. Now, i will make my work neat, organized, and every artwork would have the best quality like yours! thanks for helping me when my art teacher, who's meant to be a professional, can't.
Hey! I’m so glad you like my artwork and that you’ve found seeing my book helpful! If your teacher is marking your work, make sure you take on their ideas and suggestions because at the end of the day it is them you have to please. Anyway with regard to your theme moments in time... I recommend you look at artists who created artwork about / during different periods in time. You can essentially turn this into artist research but at the same time experiment with what it was like at that time and develop your work from there. (Basically taking images from the past but not taking credit for them) Your teacher can’t tell you not to include those photos because you are researching those artists but you must credit them for their artworks. You could also look at this moment in time which we are living in… compare and contrast it with the information about the past which you get from other artworks and maybe even think about the future! The best thing to do when your teacher says no to something is to adopt a new approach and see where it takes you! I hope that helps! ☺️
That's amazing! My gcse art project is 'food for thought' which I'm personally struggling with as I'm more of a portraiture person, any thoughts? Also, your work is amazing, congrats on the 9, you certainly seem to have earned it!
I have the theme "What is beauty?" and it has to be on portraits. In the beginning, I was conflicted about what to do as there were so many different things that could've been considered beautiful, so n the end I've decided to go with the bond between a mother and a child. I'm not sure if my book approach was the best tho since it doesn't really show me wanted to experiment with that and I'm almost done with the year so I'm getting a bit anxious about what to do. I've also had to change my book a lot because of how boring my pages were but hopefully, I could quickly fix that Anyways I don't really have a point and don't think anybody will see this but good luck to anyone with a much more complex theme, I'm sure you'll all do great!
@@haera7142 Hey I'm aiming for quite a high grade and this is what I'm doing, if you wanna read it, if not it's fine:), basically if you wanna get to Marks. Make sure to do as much of the Aos as you can. If you dont like what they are search up art AO1, 2, 3 and 4. It's pretty much doing drawings, paintings, annotation them, writing analysis, taking primary photographs and a range of photos, having mind maps and step by steps, or ideas you are considering. This is to show your thought process. Using a range of materials, drawing on a load of different materials like paper, cardboard, glass, mirror pieces. Also trying different materials like, watercolour, biro, acrylic. Oil pastels, coloured pencils, graphite pencils. Look at important events in your life and maybe in the lives of others who you know or people who inspire you! Also, if you do a mood board like I did at the beginning of my book, you can take the word in as many directions as you like as long as you show how you did it. I hope that helps! 😊
That's a random one...! Have a look to see if there are any more alternative meanings to the word and create mood boards about those or any other ideas you can take from the theme. Also, look at Sarah Graham, the artist I looked at, because she paints beautiful sweets as well as Nigel Humphries etc. Have a think about how you can move away from your first ideas when you hear the word "confectionery" because I reckon a lot of people will end up painting sweets and cakes. Hey Arlind, I agree that it can be tough to choose a theme yourself. I've had to do that recently on the course I'm on now, and it's quite difficult. I've found a really great resource that might be of use to you here:
Hi! It’s great that you want to do art! No. The artist that you research don’t have to be well-known but I recommend that you do look at some well-known artists as well. There are so many brilliant artists out there you definitely won’t struggle to find some ☺️
Listen to music and draw what you hear, I dont remember exactly but there is an artist who can see colors and draws them when she listens to music... I think it is called synesthesia?
XxUniquecornxX Sorry to hear that. The great thing about art is that you can develop your theme in any way you like. Maybe create a list of words or a mood board related to your own theme and the same for another theme you'd be better at and compare the similarities. Those areas of similarity will probably be the places where you will feel stronger as an artist and you can then develop those into your work. As long as you show how you’ve got from one idea to the next, it’s counted as development and is totally valid. It sounds like you are feeling 'Constrained' by your theme so you could even write about trying to break out of the 'bounds and constraints' of the theme itself to widen your experimentation. I hope that helps!

my theme is ‘maps’, can anyone help me out? 😂
Do a portrait and use colour pencils to draw flags around it or do shapes of countries forged together to make a portrait. Good luck
